'if they get out of their group in first place'....

is what you meant to say.

if they're in second, in all likelihood, they'll play brazil...

Yeah, the U.S. should thank their lucky stars if they even get out of their group. I'll be watching.

I've got to get up in a few hours to watch England. (My parents are English but I was born in the U.S.)

England and the U.S. are my teams.

TODAY'S MATCHES

England vs. Paraguay
Sweden vs. Trinidad-Tobago
Argentina vs. Ivory Coast

Any predictions????

England is going to molest Paraguay. Sweden will crush T/T. Not too sure about the last one but I heard Ivory Coast have been doing pretty well so I'm hoping they'll put on a good show.

I had three parlays with Ecuador. All three also have England, but then I need a huge upset. One is England with T/T that would pay 1200 on a 20 bet. The other is England, Sweden, and Ivory Coast for 660 on a 15 bet.

God damn I'm watching live, and that was a fucking awesome goal by Beckham. I think my England bets are safe, glad I didnt hedge Paraguay.

England - Paraguay 1-0

deserved win for England. very poor game. almost fell asleep. the start was promising with a quick goal but after that it got more boring every minute. I expected Paraguay to be better than they were. Joe Cole played well. I hope they give the referee a one-way ticket to Mexico a.s.a.p. he was even worse than the 22 players on the pitch.

Yesterdays games were alright. I enjoyed the openingsmatch. Germany didnt play well but Costa Rica have a very poor squad. They scored twice but it never looked as if they could grab a point. Ecuador played well organized against Poland. Poland were a little bit unlucky but didnt play well enough to deserve a point. Looking forward to the Germany - Poland match.

Yeah, pretty boring match overall, but I'm obviously glad England won. Apparently it was the first time a World Cup match has been settled 1-0 on an own goal. Sucks if you bet the over on that game (2 and a half), I thought England would score at least 2 goals.

I agree about the ref, he seemed to call everything against England in the second half.

Paraguay seemed content to lose 1-0.

Cole did have a great game, Owen not so much. Lampard's shot was nice. Crouch is fun to watch cause he's so damn big (he's like 6 foot 8!!), but has great footwork for someone so tall.

England looked kinda rusty and out of synch up front, but they can afford to ease their way into the Cup as their group is weak. They should be able to take Trinidad and Tobago pretty easily and punch their ticket into the next round.

What are you talking about, that shit was weak. Then England played passive the whole rest of the way. They were highly unimpressive.

World-Several injured in London during cup match

LONDON, June 10 (Reuters) - A number of people were injured in a brawl involving 200 London soccer fans during a broadcast of England's first World Cup match on Saturday, police said.

People suffered head and facial injuries after the brawl broke out during the match against Paraguay, broadcast onto a large outdoor screen in the Canary Wharf financial district.

"There was a fight involving approximately 200 people," a police spokeswoman said. "Bottles were thrown and a number of people received injuries including facial and head injuries."

Some of those injured were taken to hospital, but none was thought to have injuries that were life-threatening.

Asked what sparked the fight, the spokeswoman said: "I would suggest it was something to do with alcohol and football."

Sweden vs Trinidad & Tobago going on right now..

Sweden is owning the game but need to move faster so a goal will be scored.. more runs into the penalty area and faster switching over from defense to offense.

their coach is a pussy. why on earth are they playing with 4 defenders en 1 defensive midfielder? they are playing against Trinidad with only 1 striker not against Brazil. he should bring on Rosenberg, he can play as an offensive midfielder.

He was listed as a sub, but didn't get into the game. They really won't need him until the next stage anyway.

England were fucking terrible this afternoon. So bored.

If Michael Owen gets injured Sven will regreat leaving Jermain Defoe back home. Twat.

Good result for Trinidad! 0-0 with 10 men! Great stuff.

Looking forward to Argentina Vs Ivory Coast. Could be the best game yet.

AND trinidad almost pulled off the upset when my boy from the LA galaxy almost got a goal but rattled the crossbar! hislop was amazing. best indiv. performance of the cup so far (granted its only the 4th game but....)

and yes...i cant wait for this. hoping for a draw cuz i want both to go thru, but i wouldnt mind seeing ivory coast take this and then argentina rebounding to win their last two group games. i hope aruna, kalou, and fae play for ivory coast..them cats its deep! any number of possible lineups could do the job...shit, even romaric is nice.

England played terribly today. Though to call that Beckham free kick an 'own goal' is ridiculous. Sure, it came off a defender's head, but to credit it to anyone but David Beckham is unfair. Nonetheless horrible effort from England, very disappointing. Sven playing a 4-4-1-1 formation was the most illogical and frustrating thing I've seen since we played Argentina in 98.

On the other hand, fantastic game played by Trinidad, holding off Sweden. I'm very proud of them, silencing the naysayers (such as da Kine in this very thread). Hopefully they don't mimick that when we play them on Thursday though.

I'm off to watch the Argentina/Ivory Coast match. :megaman:

ivory coast is gettin killed (in the scoreline at least) at halftime....i dont understand why they have such a hard time defending...i blame it on the horrible goalie. but they were the better attacking team, i felt in the first half....

I think it sucks that the Ivory Coast got a tough draw. They're an entertaining, up-tempo team but it's almost assured that the Netherlands and Argentina will advance. They look like they have a chance to make some noise with Kalou and Drogba.

^word. they played pretty well so far but trail by 2, weird. Argentina's probably gonna do big things in the tournament, Messi hasn't even played yet and yet they're effortlessly killing one of the better teams right now.

England sucked ass but since Sweden fucked up as well, they won't have any trouble advancing to the next round. Somebody shoot Crouch please, dude's a disgrace to the eye. :megaman:

Pretty impressed with Germany's performance even though Costa Rica ain't all that. Lahm's and Frings' goals were :ohsh: :ohsh: :ohsh:

i'm so fucking disappointed on the swedish team right now. drunk, drinking some fine wine and really really disapointed in the swedish team! i'm probably just gonna listen to emo-rap and contemplate suicide all night...

apperantly you can't get rid of your citizenship like that over a fotboll (soccer) game but i'm sure a lot of swedes feel like i do tonight...
