Post by ackbar »

i've known of these kids ever since they've been w/ c-bo...but never got too caught up in the catalog.

to be real, the one i've heard the most is rydah j. klyde. from what i've heard...fed-x is prolly my fav. can someone deny/confirm??

i know Slo, Ap & BAH are all heavy fans...just give me a lesson. what's the story w/ their label jumps/affiliations?? who does the production? which albums are the best?? favorite member??

drop some knowledge. i've checked around 4 or 5 discs...still don't know the ledge tho.

I first got into the Figz in 2001 from seeing their shit in MurderDog.

Here's an old AP.9 interview from around that time.

Interview (click to englarge)
Interview cont.

I uploaded AP.9's Headshotz for odium-LSC, but anybody else that's curious reply or shoot me a PM.

I heard one or two joints and wasn't moved back then but I scooped it last year from that 99 cent sale (peace neurotic) and loved it. Spastic flow, ridiculously layered vocals, & b-grade Bay Area production is the gospel.

i'm off to school for now.

That 99 cent sale was THE SHIT. I need another one of those like I need water and oxygen. I was broke at the time of the sale, but I still spent about $25... which goes a long way for a 99 cent sale.

Jack dropped what was arguabley 2005's best release.

It's his sophmore though. He had a s/t debut that was also dope.

I forgot the Figz existed for a couple years and then got re-acquainted when I heard Jack on Cormega's Legal Hustle compilation.

I wanna up some essential listening from the Figures' debut when I get home. Peace to 408 for breaking down the releases in that old Bay thread a couple years back.

Cliffs notes is that they were a group of solo rappers that were loosely linked through family, producers, & sub-groups. They didn't come together as a whole until C-Bo pulled them together.

After a couple guest-spots, they put out:

Image
which is their best album by default, as they don't consider their second relese to be an official album.

After a round of solo records, they were signed by Warlock to produce a second group album. Because of extenuating circumstances (jailtime, gunshotwounds, etc) they never completed the album so Warlock bought some floating Mob Figaz cuts from the street, threw them on with what they had, and put the album out to recoup their money. Needless to say they were dropped soon thereafter.

With C-Bo in jail, Thizz Nation/ Mac Dre took the kids under his wing, namely Husulah & Rydah (see the first few Thizz Nation comps). Jacka and Fed-X & later Husulah hooked up with Golden Mean Management and formed Mob Figaz LLC which put out The Jack Artist. Ap.9 has always been on his own shit. He's been associated with Death Row, Done Deal, and an east coast manager that goes by the name dj pimp. Mob Figaz LLC seems to be doing pretty well for itself as its first release was beautifully distributed and received critical acclaim. On the other hand, I don't like the direction dj pimp & Ap nitty are going.

this site has a decent wrap-up of their discog up until a couple years ago.

I left some stuff out, but I'll post a couple interviews that fill in the holes.

the production on The Jack Artist is something I haven't heard in a while. It's a cohesive sound carried out by 1 producer that remains consistent throughout the different moods. It's the type of atmosphere that can only be created on an album when 1 producer spearheads the whole project. The shit is so correct, down to the flow and sequencing of the songs.

anyhow,
Image
this is Rob Lowe (RobLo). He does all of the production on The Jack Artist save for on song done by Maki who is also in the same camp.

never said he was anywhere near the truth. I don't even think he's that great of a rapper. Just that him and RobLo made a great album.

Here's an interview from Xplosive Magazine that was focused on the Pittsburg, CA area. I think it was from early 2005/ late 2004, it has words from all the Figz and a few other cats from the area.

Xplosive Magazine - Pittsburg, CA

excuse the advertisements, I had to upload the shit to a damned tripod account

Husalah Christ - Federal Felonies

Code: Select all

supposedly from Hus' upcoming Dope, Guns, & Religion album but I don't see it on the tracklisting. As I understand it neither this, nor Jack's 'Jack Of All Trades' are official albums put out by the artists.

Anyway,

 @ Hus' yellow-nigga pride on this cut:

This is just a taste of what Husalah has coming. He just gave Showtime some songs he been sitting on, slaps too. We have the Harsh Reality album coming, finally!! It needs to be mastered, but it will definitely be worth it. Plus, there is enough material to put out a few more projects. And NO, not full of recycled tracks.

Husalah has to go down for 7 years in July, so we trying to piece it all together now while we still got em here.

Still though, as a fan you cant be mad at this album. Its temendous slap if you got ya speaker game up in ya car. Its quality music, and not some shit that was rushed. Cop....

aaarrrgghh.

why don't we just jump back into this thread..

caught up on a lot of the back catalog in the two years i made this thread.
responsible for some of the best releases in the past few years.

to me..
Devilz Rejects (2007)
Mob Trial (2006)
The Jack Artist (2005)

all top 5 albums of the year. fuck whatever criteria that disagrees
i've listened to those 3 records prolly more than any other rap albums in the last three/four years

what's the situation on everyone?

jacka has a new(ish) single on his myspace.. http://www.myspace.com/thejackamobfigaz

hus is locked up. what about ap.9?? he was in jail too for a while i thought? and they shout 'free rob lo' on the dr disc. him too?

when they're focused.. the results are ridiculous. just too bad they let too much filler material get released (and tend to re-use verses as a result). plus klyde is somewhat of a weak link.. but i don't mind him

17708 and Trufed Out Mafia have been getting a lot of play from me lately. Fed X has improved so much in the past couple years.

Tear Gas and The Grinch will both be album of the year candidates.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=zuIFYN3h5JU

Mob Trial 2 was ill as fuck too.

"Aspen" and "Awful Dodger" were two of 2007's best tracks.

21 tracks

early joints, unreleased songs, appearances, etc.

Great mix to give to anyone who is unfamiliar.

Also unreleased gems that any Jack fan needs to hear.

Hard copies were never pressed up. He released this on northern-ridaz.com back in 2003.

Yeah, it's becoming a trend that before his album drops, he releases a self-produced mix cd of what he's been up to since he last dropped. The newest collection being that Real Mob mix.

All Over Me is straight. Hated it upon first listen, but like all Jack tracks, it grew on me.

I just don't know who told him he was allowed to string together non-rhyming bars like that. That shit is foul.
