Re: Songs About Being On the Run From the Law
Damn y'all thought of some more fuckin' classics and glaring omissions. The thread that continually pays dividends.
Eich, once again, quality choices. Can't think of any Kill-A-Hoe joints that fit off top but that's a good call, worth lookin' into at least.
As far as Da Enemy, that was one I considered initially as well. Them being legit doesn't really matter for our purposes, it's just that in this case because they went legit they no longer feel the need to dodge the man, so I'd say it's missing the chase element.
Ian, nice one, much needed.
And Brandon, while Eich is nailin' the West Coast and Southern staples that have been slippin' my mind, you're providing a nice counter-punch with some lesser known, mostly East Coast tracks that I'd probably never think of otherwise. Actually had that Knucklehedz jawn already, but the rest are golden.
'nother strong mention Max.
dubs, I actually did saddingly forget to include Cap on the original list but drizzle was right there with the second post to correct that.

Love that. This all started because when I looked around online, discussion around the topic was severely lacking. Thought that some folks here could help remedy that and boy was I right. You and Brandon in particular have been carrying this project, even as I'm being picky and fickle about what counts.EichTurner wrote:This is one of my favorite threads in years if you can't tell...

Re: Songs About Being On the Run From the Law
Great additions fellas, finally put 'em on the page one pile with the others.
Really didn't realize when I started this how many of these were gonna be from Wu, Ghost in particular. He certainly seems to be the reigning king regarding this subject matter. Which, as a top storyteller with a long and fruitful career, and given the history and rumors that've been surrounding him ever since the masked up on the 36 Chambers cover days, it makes a lot of sense.
Also remembered: People Without Shoes – Ghettonetics (1995)

What do you think of this one TheBigSleep? The beat is laid back and jazzy in contrast to the MCs who are talking that talk about grimey streetlife.

Think it's another nice one for the list, thanks. And you're right, with this topic it's rarely done so mellow, makes for a good juxtaposition.

Re: Songs About Being On the Run From the Law
Yeah it's irrelevant from our standpoint exactly the way cops initially get wind of their subjects, though it is refreshing to have varied examples that aren't all the usual drug stories and / or same violent crime setups, and that one is definitely different. More of a realization / closing-in than a literal chase, but that fits just as well. It's like on America's Most Wanted with John Walsh, sometimes these guys are moving all over the place, some relocate and settle back down...

Re: Songs About Being On the Run From the Law
If you can ignore the godawful default Blogger template (and I know you can't, I'll fix it later), I made a "what the hell does this non-DJ think he's doing butchering Paul Revere" mix of the songs in this thread from the eighties. And it's under half an hour if anybody wants to check it. Considering how limited and clueless I am, I'm kinda proud of it, though I'm obviously highly biased: https://massmediaconsumption.blogspot.c ... 9-mix.html

Re: Songs About Being On the Run From the Law
Thanks bruv. Life is crazy and the response so far is tepid but I have some ideas. Including more from this series, continuing with 1990. We'll see how long that takes me with my skill set.
