nah, I just live and breathe and have memorized and witnessed the performances of literally THOUSANDS of New York rappers.
virtually ALL the legends, I have seen. you could probably name 100 NYC MCs from 1985 to 2005, and I've seen and/or heard a LOT about them and their music. there's no way to quantify how much East Coast hip hop I've absorbed in my life, LOL
Toronto spent its fucking LIFE trying to be NYC. I'm well-versed in the history of NYC. My first rap heroes were Run-DMC and LL Cool J and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Some of my first visions as a child were of hip hop's origins... which are ostensibly: New York City.

The magic is just gone right now. I believe something can come again. But capitalism and greed have all but destroyed the sacred secret artform that was born there. Now the world has it, and the planet benefits from hip hop being global, but the cost of that is NYC not being a leader anymore. So many other people are getting to tell their stories, and it's good.

I just don't hear anyone in NYC doing the INNOVATIVE stuff they used to be known for. Except that Pharoahe Monch album, I like that. And god dammit that new Rob Sonic song 'Not For Nothing' is made of a level of integrity that is faaaar too rare! Oooh that Juggaknots flow, gimme dat RAP CRACK.

I don't fuck with Hot97, and I don't really fuck with RapRadar. You guys don't know me. And I don't know you. I don't care about record sales. I care about -innovative songs-. And I'm just not hearing much innovative stuff from NYC. I don't hear everything, but what I DO hear... not that inspiring. People don't push boundaries like they used to...

that's all I'm saying. I'm not gonna get all apologist about shit. I have some fucking standards and integrity that I'd like to hold on to, thank you very much. Ha ha. I don't even care if it's :smugkid: to be how I am. I just ain't gonna pretend Bobby Shmurda is as good as Cam'ron, or even that French Montana is the new Ma$e, LOL. FUCK THAT SHIT SON!

with all due respect,
YOTMB

p.s. Joell Ortiz retains the essence of what a TRUE 21st century New York City MC should be saying and doing... but cats ignore him. I DON'T. YAOWA :copy:

So on one hand you claim you want innovation and fresh ideas but on the other you think a rapper who's principle schtick is 'hey guys, how 'bout the 90s!' is cutting edge.

Mb, you're stuck in a box of relating everything to the legends and needing to compare each new person to someone you heard at the apex of your youth and fascination with the culture. There is no next rakim, French Montana isn't a new mase and bobby shmurda is not a new camron

You'll never be satisfied or be able to enjoy how music evolves when you're stuck in that mindset, and its a shame because as much as people get on you here, like versive , they also list you out a grip of people making solid rap in a new generation. This has been told to you before multiple times, I don't know why I'm bothering to do it again. And if you reply with 'tell me who to check out' like you always do, there's a list on the end of page 1 of this thread

I'm down to hear new Joell Ortiz shit

Translation: rappers you more than likely wouldn't like anyway. Even though, they're talented.

never understood the grafh hate, his control verse was great...dude isn't out there enough but he still puts out good shit. the whole "grafh can't make songs" thing is definitely just an uninformed opinion.

glad Remy's out

easy on drake bender, Im from Canada too and he's where he's at for a reason but if he wasn't from Toronto you'd have a completely different opinion

Fat Joe Reveals Title of His Joint Album With Remy Ma

Fat Joe sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN for the duo’s Drink Champs podcast recently, and in a promo from the session, Joe reveals the title of his upcoming collaborative album with Remy Ma. In a previous interview, Joe had explained the plans for a joint album but had kept the title a secret, saying, “it’s an ill title, but I gotta see if I can legally use it.”

In the podcast teaser, Joe details how the album was first produced in Miami but had to be finished in New York. “She got a husband now, she ain’t my little sister, back of the tour bus, she could just leave,” he says of Remy, who has long been affiliated with Joe’s Terror Squad label. Any reservations that Remy’s husband Papoose may have had about the union of TS rappers was quickly dismissed, as Joe tells it. “He was like, ‘Yo I’ve been in here with you two days, the shit you bring out of her. The shit y’all niggas get from each other, I get it. Y’all gotta be with each other. The chemistry’s crazy,'” he recalled.
Joe then went on to say that Pap and Fred the Godson were mainstays in the studio and called the process well-grounded. He spoke on the albums first single, “All the Way Up,” which will feature French Montana, and revealed the album title in a Drink Champs exclusive. “The name of the album is Platas o Plomo. Money or Bullets. However you want it. We ain’t got a problem paying, but if you front, you know what’s coming….It aint Fat Joe featuring Remy or Remy featuring this. Brotherly love. It’s both our albums,” he said.
The BX rapper also mentioned that “All the Way Up” was produced by Edsclusive with hook writing credits going to Infrared. He explained that the album would be released independently, saying that everything he’s put out in the past nine years has been done that way as well. Watch the podcast teaser above and check out photos from the “All the Way Up” video posted last month. Platas o Plomo is expected to drop sometime this year.
