I heard that the other day. So wild. Happy for Slovenia. How does such a non hockey country produce a player like Anze Kopitar?dirtee wrote:slovenia has 148 registered hockey players, and we managed to win against slovakia. miracle.
Re: The XXII Olympic Winter Games (Sochi) 2014
it's kind of hard to explain. hockey has a long tradition in slovenia, especially in some parts in the west (this is where kopitar comes from). last couple of years our only 2 professional clubs (one of them went bankrupt now) play in the austrian league, and our young players benefited from that greatly. also kopitar left slovenia very early.Positive A wrote:I heard that the other day. No matter how this game ends, the question is what the fuck is wrong with Russia?
I will make a pilgrimage to Warroad, MN to visit the birthplace of TJ Oshie.

The Russians are like a spoiled little kid. When they don't get what they want, they get all butt hurt and cry in a corner.

It's so fucking brutal. On paper, this is a team that should be playing the prettiest hockey and owning something like a 40 % PP. How they aren't scoring on the man advantage - with the arsenal of forwards they have - is baffling. Fuck em though.

Benn/Sid/Bergeron on top line today. Price between the pipes. Let's do this shit.
Re: The XXII Olympic Winter Games (Sochi) 2014
Should be a hell of a game. We better be shooting a ton versus Rask. It's going to be a way more physical game and hopefully we can keep up the strategy of letting our d-men jump up into the rush without comprising our defensive coverage.

Doughty is on too much of a leash in that LA Kings system. This guy should have a Norris or two already. He was our best DMan in 2010 and he is again this time around. He's all world.
Ran Samp - tell me your luv for Olli Maata because whenever I see this kid, I'm amazed. He's superb already.

Mind boggling underachieving by the Russians. It's totally bizarre to watch. Slovakia's goalie was out of his mind.an-also wrote:what did i miss in the Russia game?

Re: The XXII Olympic Winter Games (Sochi) 2014
Maata has been so good this year. He had about a two week span where he wasn't very good, but he snapped out of it and has been playing great since. I was actually really looking forward to seeing him play in the Olympics to see how he would do. He is a part of the third pair on the Pens and doesn't exactly go up against the best lines every night. From what I have seen he has looked pretty good. Cant believe he is only 19. Kid plays like a 10 year veteran.Positive A wrote:Ran Samp - tell me your luv for Olli Maata because whenever I see this kid, I'm amazed. He's superb already.

Re: The XXII Olympic Winter Games (Sochi) 2014
Swiss are sneaky good. Poor man's Finalnd. They'll make little to no mistakes and play a tight, clean defensive game and Hiller will be tough to beat.
Our forwards really need to step it up. Benn/Sid/Bergeron got progressively better versus Finland and Jeff Carter looked really threatening when he had the puck. But we need fucking goals.

Looks like it's gonna be Canada-Latvia in the quarterfinals. Huge upset over the Swiss today. I'm not familar with Latvia's team at all. Do they have any NHLers or prominent KHLers?

The men's snowboarder-cross was by far the most entertaining thing I've watched from Sochi (that I can remember). Second favorite was the 1 and 1/2 hour Cross Country Men's Skiing Relay (I watched from start to finish).
