teh drake song doesn't do shit for the album thematically, it's just a routine celeb collabo. it's completely perfunctory. C&C on the other hand neatly fits with the narrative and the ideas the album revolves around.

also, a point blank :bunk: on any grown man who would prefer a drake feature to a gunplay feature

though i agree that the PJ doesn't fit the vibe as well as CnC would, I think in today's rap we have to accept that these celeb collabs are going to happen. its just not worth railing against. i dont particularly like the song, and in no way to i prefer it to Cnc (or feel like aubrey > gunplay, thats absurd), but my point is that if the album had to have drake on it, the song is not THAT bad.

that Drake song was better than other collabs i've heard him do on other folks albums. but you're right.....CnC should've taken place of that track instead.

no you're right, objectively it's not terrible. and yea, having a drake song is on there is just how shit works on the major label level. but why bow to that reality when you can just fix it with click of a button instead.

Album is really great.

I wrote a review: http://hardwoodblacktop.com/2012/10/18/ ... -a-d-city/

I just think it's awesome that somebody had the balls to make this album on a major label. I'll be really interested to see how the trap/drill movement lovers respond to this album. But that's just a grab my popcorn and lawn chair aside. The music is excellent, cohesive, and the album is just really well executed.

His A&R
by the time the track list was really coming together at the beginning of this summer, we already kind of knew C&C was going to be too hard to clear, so it was never really a part of the track list. i really wish it was on here though, that's definitely one of his best records
Kendrick didn't want to use the song without the TV samples.

This album is really good, after a few listens...Definitely feeling Money Trees, Good Kid, and Sing About Me....Still though I prefer Ab-Soul's album more. And this isnt better than Section 80 to me but its still a damn good album.

agree about the song with the snow patrol guy feeling out of place, should have stuck anything else on the solo tip in it's place. album is amazing though

great album, much better than expected. Kinda doubt it will have a ton of replay value for me, but I can't imagine anyone making a better major label album in this environment.

I was trying to think of what other major label albums came out this year.. Only one I could think of was Nas... What else is this even going up against?

Future, Cruel Summer, Self Made Vol. 2, DJ Khaled, Wild Ones, Based On A T.R.U. Story, Nicki Minaj are a few others.

If I had to pick my top five "major label" albums right now it would probably be:

1. Kendrick - GKMC
2. Future - Pluto
3. Big Krit - Live From the Underground
4. Nas - I Miss My Wife and I'm a Bad Father
5. (totally up for grabs)

In terms of other major label acts: Big Boi, Meek Mill, A$AP, eXquire (although it's only a 6 song EP), and a few others could easily bounce a couple of those albums off the list. I don't see anybody making an album as good as Kendrick's on a major label this year though. Of course indy/free list is going to look much better (as a whole) than the major label list at the end of the year.
