A pimp even then huh? lolThe VCR spins to a stop
shuttering in static to focus on a
A child that's walking away, moving
across the far side carrying an Easter egg basket
a cross in the stars signs, shining
on his Sunday best, bugle boy shorts with
A hand me down shirt and even though
his best was a little less than the rest
he's still making it work.
Good imagery in this one, Hope. In what I quoted above I can see the scene down to the timer from the video camera. And I can see your little Jackie Chan* looking ass with the Easter egg basket.
*Inside joke from an old AOL conversation, I'm not being insensitive.
Dope, in the story I'm writing right now I also show how oblivious children can be to adult issues. A child can easily have good times during bad times and even the presence of a child can give adults the same feeling. And a voice similar to mine
But smaller and less stained with
Age, and the impurity that came with it
A happier voice, more inclined to enjoy
a day without falling into itself
sings through the images on the screen
“Good times, we had good times, during those bad times.”
I like that ending a lot. It's perfect, dare I say. The heart of the poem is wrapped up neatly here. You've got style for days, the concept for this poem is just as brilliant as it's execution. I'm going to send you a PM in a sec, check it out when you get a chance. But we’re still together,
and the reflection on a blank television
reminds me of a young boy,
making it through a grown man’s loss
letting me know, I could still learn a lot.
I know.
