I'm a fan of Maffew but you can easily see why this is a free album after the first listen.

not a fan.....dude dont say anything colorful enuff to move me. Heavy on the meh factor. If Clark Kent wasnt calling in favors he would be largely unheard of.

Positives- I liked the last song.

I'll check this out and see how it is Jaz thanks. I started listening to Maffew off the strength of "Where I'm From" feat. Masta Ace but haven't heard much else that stood out to me between then and now.

the song he did with ski was dope, that's what got me checking his stuff intitally. but he never really matched or topped it, just put out a bunch of inoffensive but completely nondescript warmed over throwback stuff

And either way, at least he's not standing out there on some Maffew Ragazino trying to sell me warmed over fascimile's of other people's leftovers. But yeah, he's clearly pushing envelopes pretty far and as a result, it's a love it or hate it type of thing.
Ragazino is dope. Not all talented rappers/producers/musicians/artists/writers are at their best trying to totally revolutionize their chosen medium. That being said, with tracks like Slumlord, Blue Rubies and Isis, it's kind of reactionary to call Ragazino a "warmed over" anything.

Slumlord is possibly the best song but Blue Rubies is weak to me. My problem with this guy has always been that he says shit like it's going to be something important or dope, pauses, and then...nothing. But he is not rapping on some everyman steez, he's spitting like he's on some next level shit and it just isn't. At the end of the Action Bronson collab, Ragazino starts going off about how epic it is but he didn't say anything particularly memorable and was outshined by a good-not-great Bronson effort.

It might just be a personal thing but when cats are aiming for some abstract lyrical shit and not really coming up with anything or having any memorable lines...that's wack to me. I can live with style over substance but the style has to be hitting, or substance over style but dude does not have much to say. It's not bad though.

i liked most of it, about 2/3 of it was enjoyable to me.. especially for a free album, he might not be the illest rapper but he can hold his own and there's some good production on here. Frank Dukes is someone to watch out for between this, the Nas joint and the tracks on Ghost's last album.
