Nothing worth bothering with - that 'Cross Town Beef' 12" was one of my favourite Rawkus releases - DCQ was also in Urban Thermo Dynamics with Mos Def in the early/mid 90s - they dropped that 'My Kung-Fu' 12", which was worth a peep.odium-LSC wrote:I dug the fuck out of that Cross Town Beef track by Medina Green. They ever do anything else? If so, was it even worth listening to?

even with evil dee its far and away my favorite....theres so many great songs on it
the only one I know is Pizon and that's because of here.Oh and Grand Agent and Sev static... actually I do know a few others now that I'm looking. Is Prime the Chicago battle guy?Philaflava wrote:I for one appreciate
All I know is I never saw any of these as products. Did they all come out? It might be fun trying to collect those... and catch up which ones were good or was this post all about ironing?
I remember when they started this 50 artist promotion but didn't have any faith in em after the MCA hook up which ruined a great thing IMHO.

Silent Knight is dope too. Haven't heard a full length but really like the songs I've heard and his performances.
Pretty sure this promotion was to benefit Rawkus more than the 50 in hopes that jpegs on MySpace could reignite interest in the label.

You're talking my language here. I remember when Rawkus first started having Rap acts.Mark 563 wrote:I was a Rawkus head from around the time of the second round of 12"s.
I never cared for the Poppa Kool Bear Breez / Rose Family joints, and got hooked with Shabaam Sahdeeq 'Arabian Nights', Sir Menelik 'Physical Jewels', Indelibles 'Fire In Which You Burn', Mos Def 'Universal Magnetic', Reflection Eternal 'Fortified Live', L-Fudge 'What If?', Brick City Kids 'Brick City Kids', Black Attack 'My Crown' - all the stuff that ended up on 'Soundbombing'.
I was also into the stuff they were doing with 'Lyricists Lounge 1' and 'Soundbombing 2' and copped all those singles too - Mos Def, Q-Tip & Tash 'Body Rock' 12", KRS One, Zach De La Rocha & Last Emporer 'CIA' 12", Common '1-9-9-9' 12", the 'Soundbombing 2' 12"s that made up a Subway train and the 12"s between those 2 periods, such as the Medina Green 'Cross Town Beef', Shabaam Sahdeeq '5 Star Generals', Black Star 'Definition', Thirstin Howl III "Brooklyn Hard Rock', High & Mighty 'B-Boy Document 99', DJ Spinna 'Rock'.
I still actively checked for all the Rawkus releases up untill the Mos Def & Pharoahe albums, but by then they were distributing more stuff from off-shoots and the quality was definitely questionable.
Arabian Nights was def one of the biggest from back then that almost gets no burn now. Wish I knew what happened to my own copy.

Apparently, dude got busted in Vegas with drugs, or guns, or perhaps both, and was tryna get his bail money up, so, through the manufacturer, he offered us all the rights and the physical copies he couldn't pay for. He wasn't asking for much but this was already years after the buzz for Crosstown Beef had died down. We passed.

Instead we put out a couple of MF Doom's Herbs & Spices instrumental CDs. When mcenroe emailed Doom re: a problem with a very blatant Boz Scaggs break (mighta been from "Lido Shuffle") he replied simply, "Don't fuck with me white boy.".
