Not bad...strategy786 wrote:I'm going to attempt to make my own requirements a bit more strict for it to be a "posse cut"
- at least 4 emcees, at least 2 artists/groups represented
- no choruses more than 2 bars between the emcees (mostly just passin the mike like Symphony, Scenario, etc.).
To me, a posse cut is ONE emcee featuring at least three other emcees or a group (at least 2 members of the group have to rap) featuring at least two other emcees.
For instance, even though Gang Starr is a group, the Gang Starr songs "I'm The Man" and "Speak Ya Clout" which both feature Jeru The Damaja and Lil Dap are NOT posse cuts cuz it's only three emcees rappin.
Artifacts feat. Lord Finesse & Lord Jamar "Collaboration Of Mics" IS is posse cut cuz it's a total of four emcees who rap.
But then it gets tricky when you have this song... Tha Alkaholiks feat. The Lootpack "Tore Down" because it IS a total of 4 or more emcees rappin, but it's a group (Tha Alkaholiks) featuring two other emcees who are from the same crew (The Lootpack).
Big Jaz feat. Jay-Z, Sauce Money & Tone Hooker "Foundation" is NOT a posse cut because Tone Hooker only sings.
This probably is NOT a posse cut, although I thought about including it, but the quality of the tape isn't the greatest. Oh well...
Snoop Doggy Dogg & Perfection - Let'em Understand Perfection [1992] Under-Ground Music Company PLEASE PASS THE MIC... COMPILATION (TAPE)
*edit* Those Perfection cats, who by the way are T-Dub, DJ Glaze, MNMsta & Wayniac, ended up changing their name to Foesum in case anyone remembers who Foesum is.
And I can't wait to post my MASTER "Posse Cuts" list that I spend about 6 months working on... It's all the Hiphop Posse Cuts from 1987/88 - 1997. I'll post it on December 10 when this competition is over.

the first tracks i thought of were all from '96 '97 and wondered if i was going to find 13 interesting choices but i dug around in my files and found alot of stuff that fits the criteria.
i couldve easily made a third and maybe a fourth volume but at the moment im gonna wait for the other contributors and maybe make one other with stuff that hasnt been compiled by the others in the end
Kurupt was hardest for me to include. at first i was reluctant to include something off Chronic.
to me he peaked around 96 and i know of more guest spots/posse cuts from 96-2000 or so.
on Blakqout hes doper to me than on the two tracks here to be honest but no doubt both tracks are very good.
in general i agree that there should be 4 or more mcs but tehre are some tracks with 3 mcs with different styles or mcs you wouldnt expect working together just going off so i decided to include them aswell (for example i consider both crooklyn dodgers tracks posse cuts - even though i didnt include them)
i tried to make it interesting and diverse and not include too many obvious tracks
ive included a bonus track, a polished version of that Ron G track with KRS Killa Sin Biggie Raekwon and OC thats floating around.
ive never seen a full file of this. unfortunately OCs verse is cut off. i removed some of the hiss and OC and made a fade out. it still sounds bad thats why its a bonus. but its definitely better than the original file

I hate to nitpick but Iגm in the camp that feels
08 Organized Konfusion - Let's Organize ft. Q-Tip & OC
IS NOT a posse cut.
Besides Pharoahe and Poetry, only OC rhymes on this track. Q-Tip doesnגt do anything but the chorus so theyגre only 3 emcees on it, 2 of which are in the same group. Am I wrong for thinking this? Itגs like calling גStress (Remix) a posse cut when itגs just a collabo.
Otherwise awesome mixes.

I'm kicking myself for not being quicker with my offering, as you've included quite a few of my potential track choices, so I'm going to have to do a bit of a re-suffle with mine.
And doing 2 compilations has certainly made it harder, as it's now 26 or 27 tracks I know I have to avoid.

Naw man, you're not wrong at all. There's no way in hell that's a posse cut. FOUR people need to spit and just cuz someone like Q-Tip TALKS, that doesn't mean anything.Philaflava wrote:I hate to nitpick but Iגm in the camp that feels

Sorry man, but those Crooklyn Dodger joints are NOT posse cuts. It doesn't matter if they have "different styles" and what not. Come on. And how is a "Posse" only three people???
And here...
Nas, Organized Konfusion, Ras Kass, Dred Scott, Shyheim, Jayo Felony, Saafir and Lauryn Hill of The Fugees - Wake Up Show Anthem (Los Angeles) [Prod. by Joe Quixx - 1994] All City Productions WAKE UP SHOW UNRELEASED PROJECT (LP)
Btw, I originally thought about using this track too, along with the other Wake Up Show Theme from '94 (for San Francisco), but I asked Gloss and he pointed out those aren't really "real" tracks. Those are promo tracks done for radio shows where they piece verses together. That made total sense to me. I will point out that...
Mysterme, Kool Kaz, D-Wyze of The B.U.M.S., Motion Man, Sway and Evol of The B.U.M.S. - Wake Up Show Theme [Prod. by King Tech - 1994] All City Productions WAKE UP SHOW FREE STYLES VOL. 1 (LP)
...is a "real" song as they recorded it together and at the same time in the studio.

Ego Trip's Book of Rap Lists & Phila Flava's rules would suggest otherwise:RandyWest78 wrote:Naw man, you're not wrong at all. There's no way in hell that's a posse cut. I think only three is wack... How is three people a posse??? Seriously???Mark 563 wrote:Ego Trip's Book of Rap Lists & Phila Flava's rules would suggest otherwise:

Whatever the case, I'm not gonna skimp and include so-called "posse cuts" with only three people... I'm gonna have a Mix CD of 13 REAL Posse Cuts. Word up.

I don't know, and I don't really care. Just saying, in the Ego Trip book, the section on Posse Cuts includes a bunch of tracks that are just 3 emcees, and the rules in the original post here seem to concur.RandyWest78 wrote:I think only three is wack... I think it's only a true "posse cut" if at least one of the following criteria is satisfied:
1) One of the groups in question has posse in their stage name or is affiliated with an authentic street posse, e.g. Insane Clown Posse, or Wreckx N Effect (Posse Deep).
2) Immediately after the recording, the rappers band together to dispense vigilante justice.
3) The song in question is Intelligent Hoodlum's "The Posse."

question about 1), would an affiliation with DiCaprio's famed early 90s Pussy Posse be considered as eligible?

Yeah, makes sense.Philaflava wrote:I'm cool with the 3, if they're 3 people not in the same group for the sake of this challenge.
Like "Hardcore" by EPMD is NOT a posse cut because it just features Redman; whereas "Headbanger" is a posse cut because it features 4 emcees, 2 of which do not belong in the group.
Make sense?
So like a solo artist or group featuring at least 2 other emcees...
The GZA feat. Raekwon & Method Man would NOT be a posse cut since they are all from the Wu, but Xzibit feat. Ras Kass & Saafir IS a posse cut cuz they are not from the same crew. Cool, alright...

Hereגs my contribution. After agonizing for ages over whether stuff was too obvious or whether it had enough emcees to merit a posse cut, I then remembered I didnגt actually give a monkeys- so just popped my favourites down in the mix for you to enjoy.

Looking at the tracklist now, I see that I've misspelled Legacy and Jadakiss' names, sorry for that
