Lupe Fiasco

Post by Icesickle »

As promised...

He's supposedly coming out with a new album soon. I've heard two tracks that are presumably going to be on it: "Go To Sleep" and "I'm Beamin." The songs couldn't be more different sonically ("I'm Beamin" is a ballad, "Go To Sleep" is more uptempo), but they both feature some of the best writing in the hif hoff.

"Go To Sleep" is probably one of Lupe's 10 best songs; his second verse is great and the beat is on some next shit. TRON rap.

"My girlfriend is very fine, yeah she is a 10 right
Mink is dragging (dragon) on the floor, fire in my windpipe
You should come and clean up after riots that I incite
Things got off the handle, left behind a landfill
Traffic at a standstill, stadium is fan filled
Fill this bitch up with fans, you still won't blow my candle...
Out
My can-do spirit's in the house
And it's possessing your possessions
Did you hear it by the couch?
Boogie man under your bed not in your closet cause I'm not a...
Bonjour nadoro (sp in Japanese?); I won't make a peep"

"I'm Beamin" sounds fresh, is great for what it is, and has a really dope video to go with it.

I can see saying that about "I'm Beamin" but "Go to Sleep" is braggadocio and talking about slanging heroin rap.

"Duck fellas

Really? I didn't like that mixtape or track at all. Some of the beats weren't that good and the others his voice didn't sound good over. This is what I want to hear from Lupe..

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6t_Y6-qYp3c?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6t_Y6-qYp3c?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DrePDWn-JqI?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DrePDWn-JqI?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/byV0GUg7w4U?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/byV0GUg7w4U?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

With that being said, I'm not a big fan of Lupe. I don't really like I'm Beamin, Go To Sleep is decent, and Shining Down is pretty damn good. I'll check for the album when it drops, but I don't care if it doesn't.

Lupe is talented. He doesn't follow the norm and sometimes takes courageous attempts at his music. He is apart of the "new" school of emcees that should have longevity in the game.

That said, I think he is extremely unlikable and not because of the ATCQ incident. He is a faggot who sounds like he whines almost though every verse and he seems like a guy you would just despise in real life if you ever had an encounter with him. I can acknowledge he is dope, I just don't have as much desire as you (Icey) to really go out of my way and listen to him.

I'd much rather listen to Roc Marciano filler.

Sort of off topic, but this has to be the biggest group of faggots ever. Lupe is in a group called All City Chess Club with Asher Roth, Charles Hamilton, Diggy, Blu, The Cool Kids, B.O.B., Wale & J. Cole.

go to sleep is dope.

i like lupe but i'm not a huge fan or anything. There is something about his music that I totally can't get behind and I can't put my finger on it. I can see why others like him though. He's technically proficient and he can be clever at times.

Go to sleep is cool.

I hated the cool album. dont recall one song that i liked off of it. Loved the F&L advanced copy that came out. The retail was cool too.

I appreciate his writing and I like some tracks here and there, but it's seriously hard for me to listen to him rap for a full hour.

he sounds like a constipated pussy a lot of the time.

I can't think of 1 rapper I can listen to for a full hour.

Isn't Death Certificate over an hour? I might be wrong, but I remember you saying it was one of your favorites..

I love old Cube but I can't listen to him for that long these days. Sure I may put DC on but I also will probably skip a few tracks.

ATCQ is probably the only group I can listen to for extended periods of time, but recently I found myself being annoyed by Tip after a handful of tracks.

What about Joell Ortiz? Certain posters have a profound affection for him and his cracking voice.

the internet has destroyed not only the album experience, but the attention spans of an entire generation.

i fight the urge to just skip around songs and only listen to pieces of things too. it's ridiculous how the brain freezes when it has been blessed with waaay tooooo many musical options.

a rapper has to be REALLY good for me to listen to his whole song now. and you have to be especially gifted for me to listen to your song TWICE or more.

nobody made nothing as conceptually brilliant as 'Death Certificate' in 2010. if they did, i would listen to that shit repeatedly until i memorized it. (remember memorizing rap? remember when dudes used to spit verses WORTH memorizing? LMFAO @ the thought that most of these new dudes are dropping rewind-worthy verses)

this is why i await Lost Tapes 2.

I can't say he gets unfairly hated cause that Tribe shit, his whining about leaks and generally every interview I've heard from him just come off annoying as hell, but to me his musical output is pretty damn stellar. Easily one of the best writers and he has a good ear for beats, so I'm looking forward to his album.
