A promotional forum?

Post by Philaflava »

I've been giving this some thought since we've had our share of issues in M2C this year. I still want :phila: artists to promote and share their music on M2C, but what about if I created a new forum solely for promoting music?

This would allow newbies as well to contribute without being censored. The forum would be modded so threads don't get out of hand but this would give people a new outlet that would allow their efforts to receive greater attention than having stuff lost on pages 2 and 3 of M2C.

A forum full of artists, promoters and critics. Videos, mp3s, tour dates, file sharing (promo purposes) to help bring awareness. We could set some guidelines and enforce specific post counts so people can't spam and bounce.

This would mean the end of Award Tour but I don't think many people would have an issue with that at all.

And keeping up with the ATCQ theme the forum would probably be named "Show Business."

BTW a promo forum would only strengthen M2C as a whole. It would drive more traffic to the site, but that can be good for the artists/producers/promoters as well.

This allows us to regulate, encourage promo and who knows maybe some nonsense hilarity too.

Why can't people just post their music in The Sound Lab?

What would keep it from becoming becoming as desolate as AT?

I feel like a bunch of artists would go there and post stuff but not many folks would be there to check for it.

M2C mods can never reach a consensus and are thus rendered more or less impotent (yh) and so M2C gets filled with bullshit.

To answer the thread, yes of course. Get these fucking faggots out of M2C already. Nobody in their right mind checks for a new rapper's music based on promo posts on a message board. Not even Borky Bork and the Junkie Stench would fucking do that.

SL has always been predominately about the producers. This forum would be rappers, producers, promoters and critics. I would prefer SL still be used to network with other producers, gather feedback and maintain that producer energy it has.

This new forum would allow for people to post their tour dates. Maybe a new single, video or press release. It would allow for more self-promotion and because it would be solely for promotional purposes it gives people that outlet we rather not have clutter M2C.

These are questions none of us have the answers to. I'm sure many threads would go unanswered but at least there is that opportunity, where as in M2C a lot of that stuff gets locked, deleted or merged.

I'm also sure there are many people who would like to share or promote projects without the fear of being modded on. People who enter this forum KNOW what they're about to see so there will be no calling to lock or delete threads.

This here's the question...how many people around here would enter it consistently to check stuff out? Seems like once you separate the promotion stuff from where the general rap talk is happening, it'll only be those that have something to promote in the new forum and not the general rap talkers.

Again I can't answer but there will be an influx of members shortly. Being that there will be no limitations or censorship to self-promotion or any kind of promotion I would say more people than you expect.

But like I said earlier, I still encourage rappers like yourself who are regulars on here to continue posting in M2C with your music. There are a few people who don't want to self-promote in M2C in fear of the backlash or criticism. A lot of threads gets murked quickly in M2C containing new music or videos. This forum would change all of that (I hope).

Terrible concept.

M2C is already self-promo central now that no one locks thread and lets shit posts grow mold. I locked and deleted hundreds of promotional threads from people who had registered only this year. You need to lay down the law as it regards to M2C and self-promotion. Chances are 999-out-of-1000 of us couldn't give two fucks, much less one, about your music or your merchandise.

If someone is advertising on your site and they derive compensation from what they are advertising, they should buy a banner ad. Cut and dry. Otherwise it remains the self-love orgy it already is.

But see that is the beauty of the concept. This new forum will eliminate this so called mold once and for all. This will restore M2C to what once used to be a healthy hip-hop discussion forum.

If we can separate the "I" from the "we" in M2C I feel it'll not only make it easier on the mods but will allow the readers to enjoy M2C much more.

This forum gives the green light for everyone who wants to promote or share new music or artist info without the restrictions of M2C. More importantly, if we segregate the daily discussions of music and the self-promotion threads we all can have a happy medium.

Award Tour has been renamed. Mods have been added for now.

M2C mods please make sure you move threads that do not belong in this forum there. Again, the regulars can continue to post their music in M2c but I would like all tour info along with press releases, videos or on-going self-promo stuff to stay in Show Business.

:phila: has had some of the best talent i've ever heard on a board. I've become a fan of at least 4-5 artists by posting on these boards that I might have never heard of before.

I'm one of the posters that would definitely check it out and would love to spread the word on what I like.

I think it's a good idea, especially for this forum, and all artists should keep us updated with their material/updates. I'll be looking out...

i think there should be a rule that any self promo thread should contain atleast one free streaming sample. otherwise it gets locked. Make it a thriving indy promo board and i will check it everytime someone posts something

I wouldn't say thats always the case. People will give shit a chance. For this board, I know some people do it because they always need some new shit to hate on. LOL.

I'm all for this idea. The constant bickering and bitching from the usual suspects about the shameless promo is getting old. Best solution for this. As long as kids know not to post dumb shit like a thread everyday about a new song they just completed and people actually go in to check out shit and not flood the forum with lame jokes (if I'm modding, I'm gonna fuckin' you all up if you do this shit), I think we're good.

i 100% agree with this

if this is in effect, i know i'd find 15 mins out of my day to click and listen to what would either be 1) forgetable- only 2-3 seconds lost, no biggie; 2) hilarious- i can make fun of it and alert my friends to as well; 3) really good and i just made a new friend <3

gloss, if you instate this as a rule i will enforce it mine good sir

based off of this wonderful image i found im making a new song about well-mannered black girls that i can use this as a cover for

gloss, where does minimum post count to start new threads come in here? can we remove it so newbies can post solely in that forum right away?

rule is in effect. the problem is new members might not always know about this rule and could end up just posting links instead. the whole point of this forum was to have to do less modding and give those artists the outlet.

we should make this not a rule but a preferred way of promoting.

I think people are more likely to check out one promo thread in MT2 before checking a new forum.

As Thun kinda suggests though, you mostly need to establish a set of guildelines, make them clear, and stick with them.

I'm undecided about that thread. Do I move it? Lock it or just let it linger?

I also think people rather have their own shine than be lumped together in one big Self-Promo thread.

Sharing, not promoting. Promoters are snakes with bellys to fill that's it.

What is a song (party) "if it don't ROCK???" Tell them that.

YES VOTE! (but i wont go there LOL)

If it encourages jokes then we'll have to put a lock on some of that shit ASAP because I'll be damned if its going to be the next P&B. You guys complained about rappers promoting too much on M2C that haven't earned it. This is the solution. Like Gloss said, M2C is for the critics; you speak your piece and keep it movin'. A forum for the actual artists can help this problem of everyone pissed off because rappers want to promote here.

Hate to say it but some muthafuckas probably went so broke putting out their shit that they can't afford to even buy some ad banner space here (yours truly included ).

This also helps out that there are artists on here who've actually contributed to these boards but its gone unnoticed. I've seen it a couple of times when their shit gets deleted or locked and etc. They're not annoying or anything. Just a simple post of their shit and gets trashed. To make it fair some of those guys who don't always shamelessly promote but ever so often, we should have that forum. Just as long as its no in excess, I think it'll be fine.
