Everything is dope.

Anyone who's ever been of any income level can appreciate some sort of music.

Rap is rhythm and poetry.

Bjork and Thom Yorke are the most over rated rappers ever.

i second that rick ross shit.

i listen to a lot of drug/street/hard life rap and his shit is pretty mediocre. i know half his appeal is beats (most of his i don't care for); but this is a question of rapping skills.

So many faggot rappers I want to mention, but I can honestly see why their target audience like them. La Coka Nostra make music for the HUstle Crowes of the world to champion an defend on the internet, Waka makes music for people to party to or white people to feel connected to the streetz, and so on.

Yeah, I'm talking musically.
He gets a lot of respect from some real hip hop heads, even though he is rapping rather averagely over pop beats.
In reference to this thread Employee made,

Why are indie rappers worshipping Drake?

It's more en vogue for indie/ undergrounds heads to give praise to a pop act whom is doing well than it is to give credit to say, Jay Electronica. Pop-act praise has always made indie heads appear internet sexy.

It is harder for the PackFM's, iCON's, Cashmere's, and whomever else to give praise to Electronica because he is basically doing what they are supposed to be doing, better than they are. There's no danger in co-singing Aubrey; Drake isn't even in contention for the same fanbase. Elec on the other hand is essentially eating their fucking lunch and receiving all the praise and accolades that they've worked 15 years to not yet recoup on.

Cheer on Drake = internet sexy
Praise Electronica = Hurt feelings

its only discrimination if he uses your fag post against you. he wont, he merely labels moments that exceed the maximum allotment of gayness per post/per boarder per capita (total posts/total gay posts).

nobody brandished you a gay its simply noted that in a fairly non gay thread you chose to go exceedingly further with the gay like qualities which lead to the assessment.

not an oppressive attack, a general affirmation of fact. I hope i explained that well enough to compute. i really get upset when false accusations of discrimination start flying around my family.

I can understand why people like Gucci Mane (I even like some tracks), I can understand why people like Jim Jones. I can't, for the life of me, understand why people even give two shits about French Montana though. Dude can't flow, has embarrassing lyrics, and has the same stylist as Hustle Crowe:

people want fantasy.

this guy is the fakest motherfucker in rap since Vanilla Ice. And yes, honestly, the guy can craft the template. He can choose the beats, he can script the flows, he can get the guests, he can play the role.

BUT HE'S SUCH A FAKE MOTHERFUCKER. I just don't get how people can put that aside. Same with Lady Gaga. Musically mediocre at best, just full of very well designed self-mythologizing imagery and cliche roleplaying.

Rick Ross has not contributed one new idea to the gangsta rap legacy thus far. Dude is just biting others. He's not an idiot though. He proves that you can get in this rap game and just play the part even if you never lived the part.

and yeah I know Dr. Dre is NOT gangsta but he's a gangsta rap godfather. There's just something different though. Rick Ross is the epitome of the fake fuckory that infects rap. And just when you thought the original Freeway Rick Ross suing the rapper Rick Ross wasn't bad enough, peep this nail in the coffin of William Leonard Roberts the III:
John Gottiג€™s 24-year-old grandson Carmine, tells the NY Daily News that Rick Ross shouldג€™ve gotten consent from the late mobsterג€™s family name his latest album, Teflon Don. Gotti was dubbed with the alias back in the 80s after winning numerous acquittals. Carmine says:

ג€œHe should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ג€˜If I could use the nickname,ג€™ג€ Agnello, who is trying to launch a music career under the name Carmine Gotti, said of Ross. ג€œI think heג€™s a great artist, but you canג€™t just start calling yourself that to sell records ג€¦He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself. Only in America can you go from being a corrections officer to calling yourself Teflon Don,ג€
straight up.
fake fuck.

i DO understand the appeal of him. i DO NOT understand how people can just outright ignore this guy's dazzling fraudulence.

There isn't. 90% of your gangsta rap heroes are "fake fucks". Biggie and Tupac included. Get over it.

You think with your emotions and it's really gay.

nah, motherfucker.

I been doing this shit for quite some time. I know what I'm talking about. Plus Biggie DID sell crack before he was a rapper. Tupac didn't do crime, but the cops hunted him like a criminal after he got famous, and he became an ACTUAL REVOLUTIONARY, which is a more righteous level of criminal anyways, so you can dead that dumb shit you're talking.

Fact: there A WAY to tell stories, make street-hop, and even expand your image. There's a way to big your self up and become a ghetto superhero without actually becoming a fucking total lying sack of shit on wax.

Dr. Dre only hit Dee Barnes and went to jail a bunch of times for unpaid parking tickets. Besides that, dude is NOT gangsta at all and never busted no guns on anybody or sold any drugs. But when he was young, he understood the streets and spoke for them quite well (or had great chemistry with people who did know what the fuck they were talking about aka Ice Cube and MC Ren and Eazy-E)

Dr. Dre is NOT Rick Ross.

another case in point: Nasty Nas. He's been rapping about Queensbridge for like 20 years and has thousands of songs about crime, guns, drugs, prostitutes, death, crack and hate. Do we ever think he's a liar? NO. He's a GRIOT. A storyteller. A picture painter. The eye over the ghetto. Sometimes he puts himself in the story, sometimes he just tells stories about others (like on 'Tales From the Hood', 'Shootouts', and 'Street Glory', among many others).

Only when Nas became Escobar did he start proclaiming a few things he never did actually do. Only a few times on record does Nas talk about himself, Nasir Jones, selling drugs, which he didn't. But Nas KNOWS how to rap about drugs and drug dealers without insulting our intelligence or lying out the side of his fucking mouth.

Yeah, lots of these guys are exaggerating things. But some of them actually DID crime. Prodigy. 50 Cent. Jay-Z. Kool G Rap. Cam'ron. These are actual criminals. They just know how to make it sound good too.

the difference is: none of these motherfuckers were correctional officers... who damn near never sold drugs. Even if Rick Ross did sell drugs, there's a lot of questions he avoids because it would expose his FAKE BULLSHIT, not because he's trying to hide some gully gangsta past.

Go ahead and enjoy your super fake fantasy rap bullshit. I like street music with a tad more authenticity and artistry. There's an ART to doing this. Rick Ross understands half of the art, but he doesn't understand the importance of the truth. He'll run out of time just like The Game. These fake fucks are NOT as smart or gifted as Ghostface and Raekwon, two guys who have been talking crime for over a decade, because they ARE both street and hip hop.

you probably didn't read this because you like to ignore the truth. it's cool.

LOL
i understand how you can hear that, even though i don't share the same opinion.

but its evident by the numbers that the people believe Drake and his story more than they believe Officer Ricky Ross and his story

first week sales of 'Teflon Don'
*Rick Ross (Def Jam) 180-190K
the dude is EVERYWHERE and is trying to look gangsta by affiliation with everyone with REAL street credibility, but those aren't platinum numbers.

like i said, you can fool some of the people.

Ummmmmmmmmmm................................................no. If you can outshine Ghost on his own album over one of the illest beats RZA ever made, you are worthy.

I've made my point. We will agree to violently disagree on Drake, homie

but no matter how many people on :phila: hate him, the guy is a bonafied success. Rick Ross? not so much. AND Drake murdered Rick on his own shit so bad that Rick removed the verse. :fail:
