Yeah, I'm talking musically.
He gets a lot of respect from some real hip hop heads, even though he is rapping rather averagely over pop beats.

Good beats, verbal gymnastics and funny punchlines?

Valid points if you're a fan. It's another case of Ithe Ruined That Shit For Me syndrome.

true about his huge fans. Devin isn't my favorite artist or anything, but go spend an afternoon sitting around a living room with a group of friends, smoking weed, 1/4 watching an action movie with the sound off and listening to Devin. It all makes sense.

Here we go, I know I'mma catch flack...

Dipset.

Now let me say I enjoy a lot of :killacam: shit, but that is kinda wher it ends. About 5 years ago I could understand the allure. Sped-up vocals and catchy 80's pop track remixed. But that whole Dipset movement was not for me. Jim Jones is one of the worst rappers I've ever heard. The other guys are simply disposable. Juelz is Memphis Bleek part deux.

I still don't get it. I mean he is tolerable at best, on the Big Boi track. I have tried to listen to some of his mixtape tracks and can't figure out what the hype is about.

Fugees at this point in history.

At age 16, fine. In 2010? No excuse for keeping that faggot shit in your iPod, save for the track with th Outsidaz. And you're super duper queer if you make serious straight faced arguments about The Score being a landmark album or Lauryn Hill being a top tier emcee.

In reference to this thread Employee made,

Why are indie rappers worshipping Drake?

It's more en vogue for indie/ undergrounds heads to give praise to a pop act whom is doing well than it is to give credit to say, Jay Electronica. Pop-act praise has always made indie heads appear internet sexy.

It is harder for the PackFM's, iCON's, Cashmere's, and whomever else to give praise to Electronica because he is basically doing what they are supposed to be doing, better than they are. There's no danger in co-singing Aubrey; Drake isn't even in contention for the same fanbase. Elec on the other hand is essentially eating their fucking lunch and receiving all the praise and accolades that they've worked 15 years to not yet recoup on.

Cheer on Drake = internet sexy
Praise Electronica = Hurt feelings

He's one of your own registered representatives, doing it like it should be done, and you can't feel that.

But Drake, you can.

o o k

There was a point in time when The Young Gunz were pretty popular. I never got that.

Besides that, he is a rare breed of a southern artist that I think really landed him a fanbase. His songs are laid back and they're mostly about weed, alcohol, women, and a assortment of other funny shit to rap about. Amogst a good portion of the Rap-A-Lot family, he stood out.

Nickatina-for reasons stated

Kid Cudi-I guess I've only heard that Day and Night shit but I don't get the attraction.

T.I.-Mush-mouthed and average.

Common-I liked resurrection but he's been so progressively terrible ever since that it almost makes me even hate that. People rate Be obscenely high to this day

 you don't have to like the shit but if you can't see why ppl. like most of these artists you're a retard. I don't really see the appeal of 2010 Em other than the fact that people grew up loving him thus they'll always check for his shit and feel a connection with him. But the fact that you can't understand how someone could ever like lil wayne is exactly why you'll never be successful in hip hop.

he's my registered representative?

Drake kicks multi-filled punchline rhymes and raps about chasing women, success, and partying and before "So Far Gone" he was basically doing his best jay z meets elzhi impression.

If you don't get why this appeals to me more you really don't know anything about me or the music I make.

People are much more into the concept of Devin the Dude than his actual music, which is pretty much Snoop Dogg for the Whole Foods crowd. The problem is that rap is not a conceptual genre; you either rap well or you don't. Devin doesn't and his fans is fagz.

This thread isn't for people to conduct authenticity experiments or to fellate themselves over their own awkward obsession with their connoisseurship. I made that clear in the first post. Cut it out.
