i can't fart on the subway these days without somebody with one of those books smelling it. the movie got uneven reviews as far as i can tell, but has been playing at landmark sunshine for like a month now which signifies high demand.

but the descriptions for either aren't really making me jump for them. maybe i'm missing something

A lot of the book groups I've been studying are reading this, and they're all wet for it.

U.S. publishing houses are now entering into bidding wars to buy up other Scandinavian crime fiction.

Shit is a mess.

Fuckaz done been sleeping on Sjowall and Wahloo. Martin Beck movies need to be made ASAP. Never got into Mankell, but nordic crime shit has been pretty dope since the 60s.

Havent read this Dragon shit, as it is approaching Dan Brown airplane reading for soccer moms and community college drop-out status. Not a big female protagonist fan either.

They've made like 50 Beck flicks in the past 40 years. The Man On the Roof is considered the best Swedish crime movie ever made.

I have read all three books as well. They didn't completely suck to me, but can barely be qualified as mediocre in my barely qualified opinion.

Definitely not worth the hype.

By "movies", I mean American movies. Watchable movies featuring actors with melanin.

Mankell is dope.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will be on Netflix Watch It Now starting Tuesday I believe. Looking forward to it.

The shame about the author Stieg Larsson is that he died before any of the books in the series were published so he never had a chance to enjoy the success.

Just caught it on Netflix OD. I enjoyed it.Can't really make a snap judgement on how good it was. But I enjoyed the story. Lots of fucked up shit. Cant really comment on the acting cuz it was in Swedish. But, I didnt think it sucked.
Can anyone who's read the book and seen the movie give an opinion?

Im thinking of reading the last 2 books. Or watching the last two films. From what I read they should be out sooner than later.

Yeah, this movie is pretty average.

Very predictable story, with just a bit too much sadistic rape shit for my liking. The parts with the girl and her P.O. were just unnecessary when you've already established that she's a fucked up puba to begin with.

The middle investigation part was actually pretty good, and the acting did seem pretty solid.

Should have been cut down by at least a half hour or so.

I might go back and read the book, but we'll see.

6 outta 10
