16. Stone Cold Crazy

18. Seek and Destroy

I'm only so so on Anthrax, but they put together the best set in terms of playing their best shit.

Slayer set kind of sucks. Also lame that they're on before (and have a shorter set than) Megadeth. But it is Poland after all.

I guess the Metallica set is as good as we can hope for in 2010. Opening with Creeping Death is pretty badass.

Also, found this on another board-

Following the June 18th opening of the feature film Jonah Hex, Reprise Records will release a 6-track EP from Mastodon from the film's original motion picture score Jonah Hex on June 29th, 2010.

Jonah Hex features an original score by Reprise recording artists Mastodon and Oscar-nominated composer Mario Beltrami (The Hurt Locker, 3:10 to Yuma). Mastodon were asked to create the score personally by the film's director, Jimmy Hayward who was inspired by repeated listenings of Mastodon's 2006 album Blood Mountain. "Jimmy called us out of the blue as a fan," bassist Troy Sanders told Paste magazine in an interview. "It was the most beautiful, authentic way to collaborate."

Reprise Records will also release an exclusive EP of six of Mastodon's tracks from the film Jonah Hex score on June 29th. For their first film scoring experience Mastodon recorded the tracks for Jonah Hex by viewing movie footage and actually composing the score spontaneously on the spot in the studio. This method of experimental and immediate composition proved to be a daring, daunting and ultimately fun way of creating music together over a short period of time. The resulting sessions yielded incredibly exciting results produced in a completely different way than they normally would approach writing and recording for a Mastodon album. Fans will get a chance to hear the four new tracks: "Death March," "Clayton Boys," "Indian Theme," and "Train Assault" with two bonus versions as they become available through iTunes and all other digital outlets.

I'd heard they scrapped Mastodon's score. Would be cool if that turned out not to be true.

That Anthrax list is pretty dope. Slayer set too short. Megadeth set does have that one song I like, but that would be at the beer tent time for me. Metallica list looks amazing. Their cover of Stone Cold Crazy might be my favorite cover ever.

I'm really looking forward to the new Canvas Solaris. I think it's going to be awesome, but I don't think it's leaked yet, haven't been able to dig up a link.

There's a sense of bombast and uber-heaviness on the opening crushers "Adaptive Optics" and "Conveyance of Flux" that makes it seem like the band is out to prove something here. Nathan Sapp and Chris Rushing are both letting fly with intricate harmony lines and humongous riffs, and the two find themselves weaving in and out and between each other on the complex prog number "The Horizon Feasts On Stars", complete with some insane rhythms from bassist Gael Pirlot & drummer Hunter Ginn. Donnie Smith lays down some trippy keyboard effects and soundscapes on the moody "Accelerated Testing Phase", providing a launching pad for some explosive guitar exchanges, and the scorching "Glacier" is a blazing slice of complex riff-o-rama that will please all prog-metal fans who like their music heavy and intricate. A similar type of intensity can be heard on "Threads of Dead Space", but the more melodic, prog-rock side of the band shows up on the beautiful " Soliton (Emergence From Dispersion)", a tune with more than a fair share of alluring passages. The mostly acoustic, ethnic tinged closer "Null Proximity" closes out the CD on a more tranquil note, providing a respite from all the bombast.

Seminary stoner/doom metal act Sleep has confirmed the dates for their previously announced reunion tour (announced when?!@). The shows will take place in September and the line-up will feature original members Al Cisneros and Matt Pike along with Neurosis drummer Jason Roeder (Sleep drummer Chris Hakius has apparently declined to participate).

Holy Shit.

I'll definitely be going to the one at Logan Square Auditorium, although it's pretty much the worst live music venue in the history of music. Only bands I've seen there who were able to sound good despite the awful acoustics and overall shittiness of the venue were Goatwhore and Amon Amarth. But I'm sure sSleep will pull it off as well and there is no way in hell I'm missing that show. I already missed HOF earlier this year since I was out of town.

Unrelated note, listened to the new Danzig you posted. Pleasant surprise actually, I was shocked at how good a handful of the tracks were. Other than the production, which works on some songs and is Death Magnetic levels of shitty on others, it's a solid album. Good to see he can still put out a quality album after all of the Trent Reznor aping industrial garbage he was doing for awhile there.

just saw those big four setlists, totally missed the post.

btw MT, Chris Poland has not been playing for a while in deth, Eleffson is back on bass but Chris Broderick from Jag Panzer is playing lead.

Even though RIP is a top 3 metal album probably, I'd rather see them mix it up more, but I guess it doesn't matter, since I'm not going.

No "In My Darkest Hour" is  It would be especially awesome because the song was written for Burton.

I'd rather here that, some songs from Youthanasia and one more at least from Peace Sells than all of RIP. No one wants to hear Dawn Patrol live.

From what I've heard of reports so far, everyone is fucking shit up, except metallica, who are unusually sloppy.

I'm going to see the Big Four movie theater thing tonight.

Expectations are low, but figured it was worth checking out something I've sort of been waiting for for 20+ years, even if it's too late.

Saw the Big 4 thing in the theater. Shit was pretty cool.

I think Anthrax played the same set that's listed above, although not in the same order. Indian and their Heaven and Hell cover were the highlights for sure. A good set for both real fans and casual fans (me).

You could tell from the fact that it was dark during Megadeth's set and light during the start of Slayer's that they flipped their sets for the broadcast. Ridiculous to me that Megadeth would play over Slayer, but glad the movie broadcast people had the sense to reverse the sets.

No idea how Megadeth's set matches with the one above (other than it seemed to be edited down) since I only know a handful of Megadeth songs. Didn't see/hear anything tonight that changed my long standing opinion of these guys.

Slayer played a similar set to the one I posted, but no Jihad or Dead Skin Mask. They played Chemical Warfare, which is fucking awesome, and Mandatory Suicide. Their set ruled.

Haven't seen Metallica live since 91 and this ws a lot better than I feared it would be. They sounded good, especially James, and played pretty tight. Was hilarious how much better the audio/video production was for their set.

Set was pretty similar to the one above, but they trimmed out Sanitarium, Four Horsemen, Fuel, All Nightmare Long and This Was Just Your Life, all of which I was fine with except Four Horsemen. They left all the old shit in and they added Harvester of Sorrow.

I was pleasantly surprised to get three from Kill Em All and three from Ride The Lightning.

When they came out to do Am I Evil for the first encore, they brought all the other bands out to play with them. Best part? Slayer didn't bother coming out.

Just wondering what all the die-hard metal heads' opinions are on this band, or the show too. Personally I can listen to shit like pelican all day and although I am aware that there are a lot of bands that are their superiors, the subject matter, and more importantly(for me at least) the singers are over the top. With Dethklok I know that the whole thing is a joke but after a few listens this shit has really grown on me. If I had known that they were trying to seriously portray some tough guy image bullshit I probably would have dismissed them a while ago, but given the circumstances and my love for the show this band has grown on me.

plus the whole Dr. Rockso/ david lee roth shit had me dying.

Got no issues with the Dethklok, I lol for real.

I know when the big 4 stopped being so rad, I stepped it over to Assuck and Spazz cause they were faster shorter and angrier.

A song from Mastodon's Jonah Hex score. Pretty cool. They should do more instrumental stuff.

what I've seen of dethklok is some funny ass shit, but there's no way I can listen to the band's album on its own without getting bored after ten minutes.

Even if it's gene hoglan on drums.
