Not so fast my friend. They put up a redband trailer that gives some impression this isn't as cookie cutter as the other trailer made it seem.

You gotta enter some info, but it's quick.

opened in the UK last week, saw it yesterday - great film with a relatively young cast, know nothing about the comics and have little interest [no offence] but this makes for a great flick, even with the rather eccentric English feel to it, and so many Brit faces in there too...

[on a side-note, over a decade ago, Dexter Fletcher was arrested and chucked out of an HMV I worked in cos he was caught shoplifting during a PA - true story]

I still can't believe that they film this movie, when only four issues of the comic had even come out.

Weird, but I'll probably enjoy the film more than the comic.

it seems like TMNT, to be honest.

I mean, even back then, the Ninja Turtles were MAD toned down versions of the bloody and murderous comics. But it was still cool to know there was a movie (even though hardcore comic heads were snooty about the Disney-fication of the Turtles)

I say that to say: the comics for Kick-Ass seem WAAAAY more violent than this movie seems, but the movie looks very well edited and colorful and fun so it wins and will probably have a sequel

the comics are vicious. Hit Girl cuts a guy's head in half for fuck sakes. I doubt that's in the movie

yeah i don't read comics at all anymore..
had no idea this was based on a comic

that will probably be where this movie loses viewers.

prior to this thread I assumed this movie would be fucking awful.
the name, the concept... it just had a feeling of being some corny teen comedy or some shit.

I did not know it was rated r. redband trailers save lives.
now there's a chance i'll see this in theatres, although i still might wait for the dvd.

TMNT was toned down way before the movie even came out.

maybe I should have said "bloody"

cause the ads don't make this look bloody.

there is blood gushing on every page of the comic.

Let's say you're a big fan of the original comic book, and you think the movie does it justice. You know what? You inhabit a world I am so very not interested in.

I stand corrected. This movie was pretty durn violent!

But it wasn't perfect, like some people are saying. It drags a bit, but is still good fun.

Some great head shots in this sucker. And the few changes they made to the comic were acceptable. Back alley sex? Two thumbs up, Ebert and Roeper.

Half this movie was filmed in my neighborhood at night. Every single driving scene of Red Mist is them driving down Adelaide, Yonge and Richmond St., all 3 streets beside my house, basically. Sometimes I was taken out of the movie experience cause I'm like "hey, that's fucking 3 blocks away from here! I use that mailbox."

The alley scene where he sets up the tire and almost does the Spiderman jump is behind a famous Toronto club that just shut down. That's the same alley beside the vacant lot I filmed the "Thank God For Toronto" video.

Cool story bro

Kick-Ass is good, but not mindblowing. They are onto something though, and the sequel should... kick-ass? :megaman:

Saw it today. Pretty god damned incredible. The film is far more cohesive story wise than the comic and the violence works better. The performances are great with Moretz being the show stealer, but Aaron Johnson did a great job as Dave, and Nick Cage was excellent (making Bad Lieutenant not just some random fluke). Very funny, and a good comment and synthesis of the superhero film genre. Go see it.

it really doesn't need to be 2 hours though. the movie isn't as perfect as it could be if they edited it tighter and gave some more depth to Kick-Ass. His character doesn't develop much... er, character by the end of the movie. He stalls out kinda half way. And there are a few tiny logic flaws in the movie (not reality flaws of course, but inherent to the movie's own logic), but I don't like complaining.

the action is dope though. anyone else find the blood really bright red? it was funky

minor quibbles, it was mostly good, but i didn't think it was an immaculate 4.5 or 5/5 movie like some people are saying

but hell yeah, go see it.

Said it once and I'll say it again... Ebert's taste has been awful since he got sick.

My general rule is that the comic will always will always be better than the movie and had no interest in the seeing this (in the theater)

But there have been a lot positive reviews and thinking about going to see this now
