I was upset that there wasn't at least one Hip To Be Square sample in at least one of these beats.

first one has a nice vibe...the 2 bar loop gets a bit repetitive...needs more layerin...but not bad for 3 months

second is much nicer..sounds like a straight loop...until the breakdown
nice vibe, but wished you flipped it harder

first 1 needs change ups, and the drums need to be brought out more. its not bad, not bad. can be awkward at points.

second 1 you really got something with this sample. drums fit well, bass kicks horseclap though but still sounds ok. I like this one alot. I like the delay on the horns. more low pass on the bass, more structure for the beat and you got it...but that shit developes over time, and you said your doin the mp thing for 3 months so this is great sounding. yup, this second beats dope.

first one is pretty boring, drums are boring.

second one has a fresh sample and sounds hype, but i think the sample you used has too many drums already on it, so it takes away from the would be complexity of it. nice though

try doing more syncopated stuff as far as chops.. like playing on the offbeat, shit like that.

if you're going to go forward with the drum style you have, try recording 15 bars of you playing and changing the rhythm or the pattern up slightly every two or four bars, then just quantize if you want to. it'll make 'em sound a bit more dynamic.

the first one is kinda navel-gazing in its construction. a lot of weird drops that make you think it's over. the transitions should have more build.

second one, dope sample for sure. the the kick and snare should be lined up a bit more to the rhythm of the sample. the same kinda awkward drops are happening. it sounds like they should start out with more oomph and end quiter, which is the opposite of what you're doing.

better than i was at three months.

these have that old school san jose feel which i love. only problem is, if they're supposed to be standalone beats they need some change ups. the first one, i mean. the second one is cool, breakdown could be more tight tho.

first one plods too much. s'like it learned how to walk this afternoon and doesn't enjoy it much. second one's just too obvious. now that's entirely too trueschool snobby of me, but that's how it hits me. samples been used 3 times on major releases i can think of and they all were rocked smoother than this.

that said, at 3 months you're growing into the process. props due on the progress.
got more records than god.

www.myspace.com/tayoisnt is where i show how i use 'em.

agreed, i kept waiting for a new sequence to roll in

second one's good and thick, though i don't much care for the tambourines on meth sounding hi-hats, type of track camp lo could rock...the chopping around the 1 minute mark felt awkward-took the track out of its groove, there's definitely something there if the horns can be isolated
