Eternal Sunshine of tha Spotless Mind

Yo I just watched this movie. Like whoa.
I know this movie is hella old or whatever and there may or may not have already been a thread about it. Look back on this DBD (thats right DBD is said it) and see if it struck you the same way it did the first time. Would you watch this hipster shit again? Stoop says no.

My review:

First off, shit was ghey. Dudes fallin in love actin like females.
Other than that I though it was pretty interesting, and kinda hard to follow when they're going back and forth from dreamland to past to future.

Elijah Wood was a panty sniffer. Lloyd Christmas wasn't hilarious. The bitch with crazy hair needs to stop shopping at goodwill. Then, and only then, would she get it. Spiderman ho is annoying at times but she was smokin weed and dancin wit her pants off so fa sho do.

Probably the most over-rated movie by 20-somethings who think they know something about film.

I sold my copy to an Arab under the pretense that it was a 'hilarious Jim Carey movie'

*locks door extra tight.

the writer had a clever idea but it comes across as gimmicky and heavy handed. get very boring even though it isn't that long (i think). disconnected scenes seem like they're intentionally hard to follow. kate winslet is very very good at being annoying. good performance by jim carey too. i seem to remember david cross in this movie? haven't seen it since it was in theatres and will not rewatch. will relisten to the jay elec mixtape.

tweak da leak... u seen truman show? semi serious jim carey role, pretty good movie.

i consider myself a big fan of charlie kaufman & michel gondry both..

since they both choose to work almost exclusively outside the "normal" parameters of hollywood movies.. it's easy to label their movies gimmicky. that being said.. i think their movies tend to have a certain level of substance/emotion/earnesty that should automatically negate them from being considered a gimmick

i also don't think it's fair to label eternal sunshine as heavy handed. it isn't. avatar is heavy handed. crash is heavy handed. i don't see how this movie is and i don't see how it's really that hard to follow either. at heart it's a romance/love story.. so it's going to work out how it works out. juxtapozing genre like that with the surreal elements are what make the writing so great

yeah i take it back. the theme that you're only happy when you forget unpleasant memories isn't presented in a very heavy handed way, it's just not as deep as the movie's ballriders would like you to believe. again i didn't hate it, I just have no inclination to ever see it again. it is pretty hard to follow though, if you actually try to keep track of plot events. maybe the director just wants you to sit back and marvel about how weird and nonsensical it is.

It would be a good romance if the two romantically-engaged characters weren't eminently hateful and I didn't want to see them both traipsing through the snow holding hands just before they become powderized by a bus.

Agreed. Such a limp-wristed, boring movie. A sure community college dorm room favorite ala Donnie Darko and Boondock Saints... only much much faggier.

Good movie.
Not a masterpiece or the #2 movie of the decade or whatever this board voted it to, but a good movie.
As far as unconventional romantic comedies from the 00's go, I'd take Punch-Drunk Love over Eternal Sunshine every time.
