Del's "Future Development"...what do you think?

Reminisce about the golden era of hip-hop.

Del's "Future Development"...what do you think?

Post by Echo Leader »

For me, this album is :rockout:

I know a lot of people on Phila prefer "No Need For Alarm" or "I Wish My Brother George Was Here," but in my humble opinion this record stands out as some of Del's best work. The straight-up b-boy shit is great, and "Don't Forget The Bass" is probably my favorite Del song of all time. The conceptual stuff like "Corner Story" is a little weaker, but whatever. Still a dope, dope, dope album. Such a shame that Elektra killed this one.

Discuss...?

...on a related note, anyone have an original tape copy ordered from the Hiero Imperium website?

i've got that tape - the artwork is rough, but dope. very solid effort - basically a precursor to deltron. when i first bumped it i was all bugged. that joint was on some next shit.

I have an original CD, that I think I got from Hiero Imperium... I bought that and Souls of Mischief 'Focus' Tape at the same time, if memory serves.

Not a massive fan of this album I gotta say. Not touching 'No Need For Alarm' at all.

I have the tape, the Japanese CD release, and the Hiero Imperium release. Yes, I am obsessive.

Incidentally, the Japanese CD and the US CD are identical.

The best tracks on this album are great, but there are maybe three or four of those. Overall, it's lackluster. And I used to sing the praises out of this album, to which Roy can attest.

Does the CD have any tracks not on the cassette?

You thought "Corner Story" was a little weaker? Man, that's probably one of the best concept sounds i've ever heard, and i remember the first time i heard it, was at a time of my life when i was dealing with a lot of pressure, for various reasons, and when i heard a track like "Corner Story", that instrumental had something different, it got me hooked right from the start...overall, Del's "Future Development" is quite a masterpiece, but still, it's hard to place it between Del's "Both sides of the brain", from 1999, shit's just absolutly genious...and the Deltron 3030, it took me more than one time to listen to that shit, it was beyond my standarts, but i have to say it's also another work of art by Del...in "Both sides of the Brain", he can get as much complex as Kool Keith, with his 1001 characters...

Remember those "Weed don't get me high no more" outtakes at the end of 3rd Eye Vision? That was supposed to be a skit to set up the track Faulty.

I enjoy the album, though I think it's far from outstanding. Checking Out The Rivalry was an unnecessary addition, and I feel it sort of ruins the "take it home" vibe of Town To Town.

I revisited this track and I stand corrected. Previous statement rescinded.

Props for the upload, Jaz.

Great album. Holds up a little better than NNFA (which I used to play the shit out of); a little more of a laid back, relaxed vibe.

"Corner Story" is the shit; "Love Is Worth" is also great.

Only weak spot is the title track, mainly because of the beat.

I think I read somewhere that "At The Helm" was supposed to be on here.

I also had the original tape for this. I like it more than ...Brother George... and it's a toss-up for me as far as if it is better than No Need For Alarm. Corner Story, X-Files, Love is Worth, Games Begin and Town To Town are my top 5 from that album

I bought this when it dropped on the old hiero website....around the same time I bought the Extra Pro tape 2 for 15. Dope album, Del was in fine form and the production was nice. I remember a few years ago you could find scores of the all the old hiero tapes for sale around the bay area for 2 or 3 dollars...they must of been clearing out all the old stock.
