Blue Sky Black Death put out two raw ass albums this year. First was Late Night Cinema, and now they put out Slow Burning Lights. Good vibe, minimal singing, fire albums. I love their solo albums, but i hated the Holocaust.

Do you know Dr. Who Dat? Check out Beat Journey. one of the best instrumental hip hop albums of these last years. There aren't that many cats who know how to make good instrumentals albums actually. I dig the stuff Madlib & Dilla did with their barely more than 2mn long tracks filled albums a lot. You listen them fast and can isolate your favs joints from the rest. For the more consistent stuff well DJ Shadow's End...troducing is pretty much the blueprint in the cinematic style of abstract hip hop. Check the Dimlite guy in the thread I made in Rick Rubin linked above for some other style. Everybody knows Flying Lotus and Fat Jon even though I was disappointed with the last album from the latter nevertheless Koolmotor and Kommunicator instrumentals with his group Five Deez are still a good listen when I'm in the mood. You definitely need to listen to Kankick's albums (the 3rd member of The Holy Oxnard Trinity with Madlib and Oh No). He's almost as prolific as madlib in the hip hop departement (or was until 2 years ago given the fact he hasn't dropped anything since then) and no one has soul like he does Check out this thread I made on SOHH: http://forums.projectcovo.com/showthread.php?t=1085571
there are links to 2 fantastic mixes in there

Check out Oddisee, Roddy Rod of Maspyke.
Of course the instrumental versions of our beloved good ol' boom bap era's albums are always a good listen (Right now I'm listening to the Runaway Slave Instrumentals).
Lately I found myself particularly enjoying Common's Be instrumentals a lot. That album was flawless production wise. Oh and I won't forget Pete Rock of course well it's obvious stuff...

edit: Forgot to mention that The Unseen Instrumentals is my absolute fav instrumental album; Masterfuckingpiece

Yea the Razah's Ladder album. The instrumentals were almost perfect for HR's voice.

kankick is too ill. too bad he refused to join stones throw. dude deserves more fans.
yesterday I listened Blueprint's Chamber Music for the 1st time. It's crazy nice - if you (reader) don't know who he is check him out. He entirely produced Illogic's celestial clockwork which is a great album. I think the instrumentals came out not too long ago. the production on that album reminded me a lil bit of El-P's work on the cold vein.
Damu the fudgemunk has been blessing us with free music throughout the year. I forgot to mention him. Check out Count Bass D too. He doesn't drop fully instrumental albums but there are usually many on his albums. He's crazy nice with the mpc. more names: Ta'raach (Elovee), Ayatollah (Listen & Now Playing), Bullion (Pet sounds), koushik (his new album), waajeed (bpm instrumentals), prince paul (itstrumental), phohat (intelligenti pauca).
the 45 king, Godfather Don and Dj Spinna have a lot of instrumentals albums haven't had the time to check em all yet

edit: just to mention uk producer 2tall who produced an album for Dudley Perkins & Georgia Anne Muldrow last year beatiful mindz. Imo he did a better job than Georgia who produced the 1st g&d which is a very appreciable feat given the fact that she's a problem on the boards. so he put out an album this summer which is called the softer diagram. it's a well-crafted album. sounds kinda minimalist but I liked it.

I find a lot of instrumental hip hop albums tend to end up rather boring... I'd often rather listen to a DJ mix like the Future Primitive mixes, however I do have a few instrumental albums that I consistently return to:

DJ Frane - Frane's Fantastic Boatride
DJ Frane - Journey to the Planet of the Birds
The Bug - Tapping the Conversation
Presage (Mr Dibbs & Jel, with Dose One) - Outer Perimeter

Late Night Cinema still gets a lot of spins, and Alias' most recent album (Resurgam) is very good. I also snagged the instrumental version of The Third Hand a short while ago and ended up with a new appreciation for it.
