Does anyone know if the level of true transfer of dialogue is as truthful to the book as Full metal Jacket was to Dispatches?

Excellent show.

Ziggy is awesome. When the officers are having an important discussion and Ziggy turns around to take a piss and starts singing that Avril Levigne song is fucking hilarious.

Espera is dope. I don't get the hate. When he is talking to the reporter and explains the day he started hanging out with white people is classic.

"White people don't drag you behind a Mr Icees and stab you to death with a screwdriver, so from that day forward, i started hanging out with white people."

So should we start a death pool for this? You would think someone has to die at some point on this show and i wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the main characters.

i haven't read the book, but i would assume that if no one dies in their unit in the book, then they wouldn't on the show

after episode 3 i'm leaning towards agreement about godfather.

the leadership fuck ups are crazy and will most likely only get worse.

are the marines really that low budget in the states? why would anyone join them over the other military divisions (army, navy etc..)

Great episode

I finished that Fick memoir - it's a good read for anyone who wants to see what it was like from his perspective, although he glosses over a lot of the bickering about chain of command that happens in the show

reminds me of a real long version of 'jarheads'

not really about the action like band of brothers or other war movies, more about the interaction between the troops, and the waiting around, which is more interesting imo.

Neither of those are chosen directions as far as the waiting around etc it's just being accurate.

it is being more accurate than most war chronicles. not many dwell on the 'non action'. they could have easily stretched out the action sequences if they wanted to.

They've done a great job of adapting the book so far.

Was this quote in the show, I believe they made this up after Trombley shot someone:

"What's the first thing you feel when you shoot a civilian? The recoil of your rifle."

Nathaniel Fick also wrote a book that is good so far.
