I agree it's not a total commercial bomb, but considering all of the energy that went into promoting this thing, all the hype, etc it sold less than half of what HHID moved in the first week right? That's gotta be a little disappointing at least right?
Promoting the thing? Def Jam basically left the project for dead after the namechange fiasco, the majority of buzz promotion for the album has came from Nas and his management which is why you're seeing more unorthodox tactics such as the petition, the Sly Fox video (which allegedly Def Jam refused to pay for), the Colbert appearence etc. If Def Jam pushed the button on this one it likely would've been a different story. But no, they're too busy promoting Rihanna's next video.

Look at the utter mismanagement behind the "Hero" single alone, the push for that was abysmal. Every DJ I've heard from loves the song yet radio just isn't playing it despite the fact that it's got one of the hottest producers on it along with Keri Hilson. It's not Einstein time to work out what happened there. Then take into consideration that sales for 'urban' music are spiralling even more than they were 2 years ago, at which point Nas had a December 15th release which is a huge sellers date. This album has already sold more than G-Unit's "Terminate on Sight" and given its content, i'd say that's pretty respectable.

selling half of what your last album sold is a big disappointment, no matter how u spin it, that is not considered a success, so what is it? its a bomb...oreily pointed out that nas did this petition to garner more sales for his struggling album, if you cant see that, that is on point then I dunno what to tell you

like I said oreilly didnt say anything that wasnt true, so I dunno why someone would be mad at this...nas is very talented but the fact is his whole faux revolutionary thing he has been on for the past few years is mad corny, nobody believes him, its very transparent

Nas' career is officially over.

The only person who is capable of salvaging his reign is Premier and that shit isn't going to happen.

Changing the title of the album is a slap in the face.

lol, sorry man, i forgot this was hip-hop, where something is either wack or its dope, its platinum or its a disaster, there's clearly no room for an album to be a critical success and achieve respectable sales.

O'Reilly is a dick but he definitely just told it how it was. Nas isn't matching up to what an artist of his stature should so that means he is failing. and why does it matter if O'Reilley is gay or not? He is still making Nas look foolish. and yeah this does seem underpromoted. But I personally felt he shoulda kept the original title and just released it independently or something, cus he just looks like a pussy right now.

But Oג€™Riley did say things that were untrue...

Well beside the fact that his name is Nas, not Naaaahhhhhzzzzzz, *said with a weirdly gay affect*. Bill O says that Nas ג€œPeddles the N word and violent lyrics, to his target audience of mainly children and young adults.ג€ Which is just stupid, How is Nas childrens music?!?!?! Iג€™m not even claiming that Nas is the deepest guy on planet or anything, but clearly he makes an attempt at that, which I think places him securely outside the pantheon of childrens music. As well as, Nas isnג€™t someone who just gratuitously uses violent language, so I think that is also an inacuracy, though I suppose it isnג€™t a categorically false statement.

But then Papa Bear goes onto say that ג€œhis new album is a bomb, a disaster, a catastrophe.ג€ This is certainly Incorrect! No matter what you think of Nasג€™s new record surely that is not the case. Nobody is selling now what they wouldג€™ve 2 years ago. If Wayneג€™s joint dropped in 06 after the huge media campaign that was rolled out for The Carter III than it would have sold easily twice as much. So I donג€™t really think Nasג€™s decline in sales is as much about him releasing a bomb disaster or catastrophe, as it is about the state of the music business, and the perception of hip hop in the mainstream media. Not to mention he had the number 1 album this week. I donג€™t know on what planet that is a disaster, But Stranger things than that have happened in the no spin zone.

so nas never uses violence in his music??? nas never made music that catered to the mainstream I.E. children and young adults??? it was written didnt contain violent lyrics??? lil wayne proved you can still sell records in this day and age, nas did not sell well even if it debuted number 1, what do you think his numbers will be in the album's 2nd week of release? so if it sold just 50k its first week but it debuted at number one its still considered a success just cause it debuted number 1?? nah man that logic is flawed, the album is a disappointment sales wise I think we can all agree that it was a disappointment to certain degree, to what degree it was a disappointment may vary from person to person to, but I think everyone can agree it was a disappointment

also "hero" nas first single off his latest album isnt aimed at children??? he got the favor of the month producer to do the beat and has an R&B girl doing the hook...who is that single aimed at?

Just because there is an R&B singer on the hook doesnג€™t mean that it is for kids, cג€™mon thatג€™s just silly. Ever heard of Adina Howard? But I digress and seriously, Wayne proved that there are enormous hoops youג€™ve got to jump through to have a huge first week, the days when all your favorite rappers just go platinum out the gate are over. He literally had a promotion plan that started a year ago. If your argument is that Nasג€™s record wasnג€™t promoted in a fashion that is conducive to go going platinum in this vastly changing musical landscape, that is a completely different, argument then saying that his album is a failure, or as your bol Oג€™Riley said a bomb.

Wayne sold so much b/c he actually does appeal to children, like actual children... Like people in elementary school, thatג€™s what Oג€™Riley is talking about, he doesnג€™t mean college kids or teenagers. Just like the majority of the things you see on his show when he talks about Nas Mainly peddling his music to children, he actually wants housewives in scarsdale to make sure there is no Nas on little Jimmyג€™s ipod, while they are waiting for the school bus to come. Most of the things on his show are presented as either threats to America or the American family, by way of your children. You commented that nas is transparent, I think this tactic of Oג€™Rileyג€™s is the most transparent of all.

I really donג€™t think this record is a disappointment at all, you could say you wouldג€™ve like to see more sales, but thatג€™s just one aspect of what makes a record good, you know those CDג€™s were so quick to throw statistics around about actually do contain music on them. And the music on Nasג€™s new Joint is Pretty Official. And Nobody is selling huge numbers of physical CDג€™s anymore its just not happening, so I donג€™t consider the number of album sales he got a disappointment.

And Nobody is selling huge numbers of physical CDג€™s anymore its just not happening, so I donג€™t consider the number of album sales he got a disappointment.

first of all the music on nas album sucks ass...it is a critical failure and a commercial failure, and yea nas isnt really appealing to teens anymore thats why he isnt selling well and thats why he is desperate for publicity to garner more sales so he does this fake petition bullshit, yea oreilly said he peddles music to children and so what? it was written wasnt an album that lots of teens bought? you are saying at no point in nas career has his music appealed to children? oochie wally wasnt aimed that the mainstream? come on man your argument is so flawed just stop it

Naaaahhhhhzzzzzz, *said with a weirdly gay affect*

so nas never uses violence in his music??? nas never made music that catered to the mainstream I.E. children and young adults??? it was written didnt contain violent lyrics??? lil wayne proved you can still sell records in this day and age, nas did not sell well even if it debuted number 1, what do you think his numbers will be in the album's 2nd week of release? so if it sold just 50k its first week but it debuted at number one its still considered a success just cause it debuted number 1?? nah man that logic is flawed, the album is a disappointment sales wise I think we can all agree that it was a disappointment to certain degree, to what degree it was a disappointment may vary from person to person to, but I think everyone can agree it was a disappointment

also "hero" nas first single off his latest album isnt aimed at children??? he got the favor of the month producer to do the beat and has an R&B girl doing the hook...who is that single aimed at?

Just because there is an R&B singer on the hook doesnג€™t mean that it is for kids, cג€™mon thatג€™s just silly. Ever heard of Adina Howard? But I digress and seriously, Wayne proved that there are enormous hoops youג€™ve got to jump through to have a huge first week, the days when all your favorite rappers just go platinum out the gate are over. He literally had a promotion plan that started a year ago. If your argument is that Nasג€™s record wasnג€™t promoted in a fashion that is conducive to go going platinum in this vastly changing musical landscape, that is a completely different, argument then saying that his album is a failure, or as your bol Oג€™Riley said a bomb.

i was about to say the same thing since supposedly pushing 100,00 within the first week is considering doing alright. especially since each year, cd sales keep going down by there.
