fuck this little popping his pimples on youtube ass nigga soulja boy for real.

here's how i feel about shit and how hip-hop done fucked itself up.

hip-hop used to be able to police itself and wasn't all about sales and fancy marketing schemes back in the day and that's the main difference between the past and the present to me.

being perceived as a "sell out" used to be devastating to a rapper's career back in the day since nobody outside of the population that grooves to whatever is popular would cop your sh1t or give you any play if you were perceived as a "sell out" or fake since ppl really recognized and cared about this hip-hop sh1t, they wanted the realness not some contrived bullsh1t and that's how it was for a long time. then when cats like biggie, puff and them started to popularize the term "playa hater" and started to revel in the good life that nobody in the ghetto could achieve that became the trump card that broke hip-hop's back. after that being called a sell-out lost all of its power for the most part and that power was transferred to the term "playa hater" as nobody wanted to be perceived as a hater which led to the lack of constructive criticism that used to help hip-hop stay at a certain level quality-wise. nobody was really called out for their wackness and if someone did say something they were shrugged off as haters and thought of as jealous/bitter/mad/etc... which is how things have gotten so bad today as anyone that even remotely criticizes any rapper or producer is greeted with "you just a hater" or "u mad" and that's that, end of convo and i ain't just talking about the fans, even the rappers of yesteryear are afraid to be perceived as a hater since they risk losing potential fans even if they are speaking the truth because plain and simply, the truth doesn't even matter anymore, nobody cares. substance is wack, played out and for old ppl or nerd ass n1ggas to today's youth, style is all that matters in their swagtastic little worlds. everyone wants to be blind and sadly ignorance truly is bliss for hip-hop in 2008.

the thing that really gets me is that we used to laugh and be like :larry: at these little one-hit wonders like soulja boy and let them have their little 15 minutes and then kick them back into obscurity when their time was up but nowadays sh1t is ass backwards cause now they are the ones being celebrated and given more time while the quality artists are the ones who are being kicked into obscurity...

Not that I entirely disagree with your sentiment man (and this response is a little tangential to what you're actually addressing), but Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, & Kid Rock all went diamond. They may not have had the longevity of a Gang Starr or the street respect, but they made a helluva lot more money. I'd take being a sellout in that era over being a sellout in this era anyday.

Moreso, because you're a romanian who drops the n-bomb, outside of the context of your favorite Ice Cube verse.
