Soulja Boy almost redeems himself, but mostly comes off like an idiot.

age is to be celebrated, not ridiculed.

Soulja boy is only cool to kids under 18.

Ice-t is still cool to most people in life above 18, in arenas way bigger than music.

kids these days

Y'all cant be that naive about this...

Let's be Really Real...Souljah Boy blew up off Crank Dat...and labels essentially followed suit (as they do with most trends). that's why Ice T said what he said. If the game was about balance and diversity, you're right no one should give a fuck about souljah boy. But the fact that the industry has given him a level of success and thus are trying to mimic it, shows that whether you think Ice-T said it to help his album sales, what he's saying is somewhat true. No one act has the power to ruin hip hop, but at the same time, Souljah boy is one of the artist setting a shitty standard for music. With that said its made for kids....by kids.

the biggest rap songs have always been novelty songs whether it was 95 south, rappin duke, vanilla ice, or whatever. the problem is rap just aint that important anymore and not because the industry fucked it up but because its been around for pushing 30 years. its not interesting or exciting music anymore. ice t makes music for dudes pushing 40 who have things like kids, work, family, divorce and other shit to worry about. soldja boy makes music for 15 year old girls who get money from the people ice t makes music for. there is nothing sadder than 40-50 year old people feeling so self important that an artist who makes music for 15 year old girls threatens them and their place in the world. if hip hop is so great and strong a kid like soldja boy cant kill it.

This reminds me of the Lil Bow Wow vs. Will Smith confrontation. Though the scenario was a bit different, this one proves that tween-rap star vs. rapper turned actor beefs are pretty flat publicity stunts.

yeah, which proves that he's an IDIOT

Ice-T fought the government for hip hop and paved the way for Soulja Boy to do his dumb ass dance. These kids gotta learn some god damn respect.

this is nothing like Nelly vs. KRS One

That has nothing to do with Soulja Boy though. That's the way the music industry works nowadays. You can't diss a kid cuz he had a dance and he blew up. True he's not the dopest rapper, but he had one of the best selling albums last year. It's not his fault others are trying to replicate it and it's watering down the industry as a result. I'm not saying I'd cop one of his albums, but you really can't blame an individual artist for the biters that follow him.

Calling him wack is one thing, telling him to eat a dick is disrespectful and just makes Ice-T seem like a salty old fart who only sold 7 copies of his last album.

Obviously from a career/impact scenario Soulja Boy will never be as powerful or have the longevity of Ice. But Ice should stop rapping.

true, but he didn't go on a 7 minute tirade. "single handedly killed hip hop" was extreme and "eat a dick" wins you no favors from nobody... but still, it's just the ice opinion

i wouldn't be offended.

Bobbito said he didn't like my tape, the same one that El-P said he loved. I wasn't mad at Bobbito. motherfuckers take shit too personal nowadays. why?

bobbito also didnt tell you to eat a dick or go at you unnecessarily. you solicited bobs response, had he decided to publicly go at you and then tell you to eat a dick im sure you might feel different.....especially as a teenager.

Most people, particuarly those not raised in a gated community, don't respond too well to be told "eat a dick." Kind of the height of disrespect. Ice-T knows this, Soulja Boy knows it.

Maybe that's some cool funny shit to say in :ohcanada:

There's a huge difference between being told your music sucks, and being told you ruined hip hop and you should eat a dick.

I will refrain from calling you names because I surely don't need to. Your responses to shit cause you to ether you damn self...

I'm one of those guys on :phila: now... If you can make light of the fact that a grown man is telling a boy to eat a dick and blaming him for killing hiphop then something is definietly wrong with you. The amount of respect that Ice ought to get dwindles everytime he utters shit like that... In this world ain't one trynah lead by example or except responsibility for shit either... Niggahs got pass the buckitis.

this is hip hop. emasculating a man is expected.

i said some things Ice-T said were too harsh. But man, Soulja Boy be trippin too much, that tape shoulda been only 2 minutes long, not 7, WITH edits (shit was probably 15 minutes of 18 year old child thinking, which 40 seconds worth was actually calm, rational and realistic.)

cats on here have said worse things to me about my music. I don't really care.

motherfuckers EGOS and IMAGES are too delicate. if they would just let it go, they'd look like the bigger, better man. but noooo, cats GOTTA beef

laaame.

no, Soulja Boy.

pssh, the kid is rich and famous. for life, if he handles it right.
if Ice-T REALLY doesn't matter, then who cares? listen to it, get a chuckle, and forget about it. people here tell me I'm killing hip hop all the time, and I don't have a few million dollars or a dumb ass dance to show for it. I don't care what anyone says. People have actually said much worse shit than 'eat a dick' to me on Philaflava, but i don't care. brush shoulders off, keep it moving. cats are too emotional these days, LOL

Soulja Boy is playing this up for more fame as much as he says Ice is (which I don't believe Ice is). Soulja's like "2 million people gonna see this in 3 days" and he blames Ice-T for seeking publicity? I don't get it.

as extreme (and kinda wrong) as Ice-T was, I still agree with him more. though soulja boy didn't kill hip hop, his shit sucks too much to not get called out by a pioneer, and i'm glad ice checked him.

For Ice to say Soulja Boy has killed hip-hop is a fucking retarded statement, add into it the `eat a dick` shit and it becomes pathetic.

In no way can one individual be responsible for the demise of a whole culture, and yeah I know Ice prolly didn't mean it literally but as the boy says on the video, he's come from nothing and made a lot of money. He was presented with an opportunity and he took it, nothing more than good capitalism.

We can all be principled when our situation affords us that luxury, but when it comes down to it, if at 18 someone offered you a shit load of cash to do a stupid fucking dance for 13 year old myspace users that would not only lift you out of poverty but guarantee the financial security of yourself and your family can you honestly tell me that you would of turned it down?

At 18 he has no responsibility to this culture, if anyone does it's the record labels and the influential veteran emcees. The vast majority of major record labels donג€™t want to sign an artist if it means they have to go out and create a market to sell units, itג€™s about money and Soulja boy is a record companies dream. Promote him through myspace and you tube for fuck all and watch the records and the ringtones fly out. Can Joell Ortiz do that? No. Not because heג€™s not dope because the guy is a beast, but for him to move a million records plus would require serious investment so why would a business, whose sole purpose is to make money chose Joell over Soulja?

But none of this is news to anyone is it ? Itג€™s the same shit people have been going on about for years, once you let big business into art itג€™s gonna get at least partly fucked, thatג€™s just the way it goes.

If Ice wants to start blaming people for the decline of hip-hop, then look at major labels, look at MTV and if he wants to go at an artist then go at 50.

Rant over.....
