[quote="Prophecy"]Sources: Chiefs agree to send franchise player Allen to Vikes
By John Clayton
Jared Allen, the franchise player for the Kansas City Chiefs, is heading to a new franchise, the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple sources.
Late Tuesday night, the Chiefs and the Vikings reached an agreement on a trade package, and at roughly the same time, Allen reached an agreement in principle on a contract with the Vikings. Upon reaching the contract agreement, Allen headed to the airport and left for Minnesota.
Sources said the Vikings included a second third-round pick (No. 73) in the 2008 draft to get the deal done. They had been offering a No. 1 pick (17th in the first round) and a No. 3 (No. 82). The teams also swapped spots in the sixth round with the Vikings getting a better spot in the sixth round, sources said.
Terms of Allen's new contract weren't available.

Saints upping the ante
According to a league source, the Saints are getting more serious in their efforts to move from No. 10 overall into the top portion of the first round in order to select DT Sedrick Ellis and are dangling former Pro Bowl OT Jammal Brown in front of a team in the top 10.
Deductive reasoning tells us that team is likely the Chiefs, who have the fifth overall pick. St. Louis should take DT Glenn Dorsey at No. 2 and Atlanta (No. 3) and Oakland (No. 4) do not have much interest in Ellis. The Jets won't want to trade back from sixth overall because of the chance they could get RB Darren McFadden at that spot and the Patriots are rumored to be leaning toward Ellis at No. 7 because of the value that pick would offer. All of which means Kansas City is in a perfect spot.
DE Chris Long will be the Chiefs' pick if he's available, but should he be off the board Kansas City will want to retreat. swapping first-round picks with New Orleans and brining Brown into the fold would be an attractive scenario, as the Chiefs could then opt for another offensive lineman at No. 10 or get a much better value on their preferred defensive end, Derrick Harvey. And don't forget that extra picks beyond the swap of first-rounders would likely be included as well, so this would be a hard deal for Kansas City to turn down.
Should the above deal be completed, though, it will have to happen on the clock as the Chiefs are not going to to any kind of deal until they know whether Long will be available. And if New Orleans is unable to get out of the No. 10 spot don't be surprised if OLB Keith Rivers is not the pick. As we mentioned earlier today, Leodis McKelvin is beginning to separate himself from the pack at cornerback and the Saints, who have a big need at corner, are one of the teams that has McKelvin pegged as the clear No. 1 at that position.
Detroit looking to get tougher
Now is usually the time when top running backs tend to slide a bit, because as the draft approaches many teams begin to feel they can get better running back value in the later rounds that at the top of the first. This year is reversing that trend, however, as teams with running back wishes are popping up all over the top 20. In fact, it now looks like three running backs could come off the board in the top 15.
McFadden will be off the board at No. 4 or No. 6, Cincinnati is rumored to be thinking about Rashard Mendenhall with the ninth pick should Ellis be unavailable and Denver has its eye on Jonathan Stewart at No. 12. Carolina has many needs at No. 13 and has been rumored to be in on the Matt Ryan sweepstakes, but running back would definitely be a consideration.
The best fit for Mendenhall, though, might be Detroit at No. 15. As I said in my latest mock draft, his big frame and physical running style would be ideal for a Lions team that is looking to get tougher. Mendenhall's game suits head coach Rod Marinelli's mindset, which is predicated on winning with ball-control offense and a tough defense. However, should Mendenhall be off the board at that point Detroit would still be in good shape as the Lions would be able to fill a need at OT, DE or LB and get good value for their selection.
Rams have options at No. 2
The St. Louis Rams continue to be the hot team in trade talks as their No. 2 overall pick is generating plenty of interest, and the Rams' decision certainly will have a trickle-down effect at the top of the first round. Word is that St. Louis is getting closer to keeping the pick and taking DT Glenn Dorsey, which would allow the Rams to put Dorsey in a rotation with Adam Carriker and La'Roi Glover and would give them a very strong defensive interior.
The Atlanta Falcons have the No. 3 overall pick and also covet Dorsey, however, and with four of the first 48 picks (Nos. 3, 34, 37 and 48), they might be able to assure themselves of getting him. If the Falcons are convinced the Rams will take Dorsey, they could try to swing a deal that would allow them to flip-flop with the Rams, take Dorsey at No. 2 and use some combination of their remaining picks to trade back into the bottom of the first round to select QB Brian Brohm. Getting both Dorsey and Brohm is Atlanta's priority at this point, but in the absence of a trade, there is still the option of staying put at No. 3 and taking QB Matt Ryan.
A deal with the Falcons might make some sense for St. Louis. Both Dorsey and DE Chris Long have support in the Rams' draft room, and trading back one spot would net one of those players as well as an extra pick or two. Atlanta would then be able to court teams such as Washington (No. 21) and San Diego (No. 27) that are looking to get out of the bottom of the first round. I'm told the Falcons have started the feeling-out process, so stay tuned.
How high will the Saints go?
The New Orleans Saints are still aggressively looking to trade up and solidify their defensive line, but at this point it looks as though they don't have enough pieces to get up to No. 2 to select Dorsey. The more likely option is getting into the top seven and taking DT Sedrick Ellis. There is speculation, however, that New England will take Ellis at No. 7 purely as a value pick even though he does not fill an immediate need. The Patriots like to take linemen, Richard Seymour's contract is up in 2009 and some in the organization think Seymour has been the third-best defensive lineman on the team, so the pieces definitely fit. And playing a few more four-man fronts with Seymour, Ellis, Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren would not be a bad thing, either.
New England would prefer to trade back, though, getting extra picks and getting a better value for a need pick like CB Leodis McKelvin or OLB Keith Rivers. And the feeling is that if the Patriots trade back into the teens, they would select OLB Jerod Mayo, who they feel is a good fit for their scheme.
Chiefs looking to move up
It seems certain the Kansas City Chiefs will take Chris Long if he is available. ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that the Chiefs also are looking to trade up from No. 17, the pick they acquired in the Jared Allen deal. That would allow them to strike a deal with a team such as Buffalo (No. 11) or Chicago (No. 14). The Bills would like to trade down to get better value on WR Devin Thomas, and the Bears would drop and perhaps take one of the second-tier quarterbacks, such as Chad Henne, Brian Brohm or Joe Flacco. That would allow the Chiefs to fill their need at defensive end with the No. 5 pick, then get either Ryan Clady or Chris Williams to address offensive tackle. Both are great fits for Kansas City because of their feet and mobility.
Separation at cornerback
Leodis McKelvin (right) has separated himself from the pack somewhat and looks like the player a majority of teams feel is the top cornerback on the board. That could mean some teams feel more inclined to look at him earlier in the first round, though there probably won't be a lot of urgency to reach for him with an early pick. The more interesting situation at cornerback, though, is the fight between Mike Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for the No. 2 spot behind McKelvin.
I've been told by more than one team that Jenkins and Rodgers-Cromartie are pretty much neck-and-neck but that the tiebreaker for some teams could end up being the fact that Rodgers-Cromartie has only one kidney. He is not a very physical player to begin with, and some teams might wonder whether he is protecting himself against a career-threatening injury to his single kidney. Rodgers-Cromartie won't fall out of the first round, but he could slip behind Jenkins because of that worry. Aqib Talib, on the other hand, continues to fall behind the other corners, and much of that has to do with character concerns. Talib has had off-the-field issues, including the admission that he failed multiple tests for marijuana in college, that likely will drop him to the end of the first round.

that is a thread from a Giants message board...best prospect breakdowns I've read...it's quite lengthy...but anyone sick like me up at 8 am this morning awaiting this thing would find it well worth the read...especially for prophecy, poppa and anyone else really into this.

agreed...though they did just trade fasano and ayodele to parcells for their pick at the top of round 4....they definitely have the ammo...but they'd have to give up so much I cant see them doing itstill illiterate wrote:I would be flabbergastedGregg Popabitch wrote:i would be.LAZTEC wrote:Dont be suprised if the Cowboys trade up to #4 to get McFadden.still illiterate wrote:man I am hyped about tomorrow. Alot of bad information on here......Ill just highlight whats inaccurate
3. MIKE JENKINS, South Florida (5-10, 195, 4.40, 1) - Intercepted six passes (6.8), forced five fumbles and broke up 41 passes in 48 games (40 starts). "I equate him to Eric Allen, the five-time Pro Bowler," one scout said. "Just the style of play. I think people read Jenkins the wrong way. He's kind of a loner, in a good way." Criticized by one scout as "having a little prima donna in him. Not the toughest guy. Is he the guy I would want as my locker mate? Probably not." Scored 16 on the Wonderlic. Was suspended in '07 after being arrested for his part in an on-campus disturbance. "But he's not a bad kid at all," a third scout said. "Only reason he didn't go to a major university was because his mom had really bad diabetes and he didn't want to leave her so he stayed at home. Also raised his nephew when his sister couldn't take care of him." Played in a zone scheme. "If he comes to play he'll be the best player out of all of them," Fisher said. "His issue will be in his own mind."
the disturbance was 2 mile off campus at some dive bar. We play hella man down here and constantly left our corners on islands. Mike is also one of the most humble and down to earth kids your gunna find theres a reason why he chose USF over nebraska 4 years ago and that was his family and the fact that they needed him. Yeah that really sounds like hes a prima donna. He was also considred one of the team leaders and never caused any problems in the locker room during his duration here. Sometimes i wonder what theses guys get paid to do.

I like Jenkins, but there are definitely some big question marks with him.
He was arrested but it was not an on campus arrest as it alleges in the report. Also we played predominantly man coverage for the duration of Jenkins career. Thats basic stuff that you can't get wrong that is obviously wrong.

Not sure whether the fact that it was off or on campus makes much difference..though I read he also resisted arrest...but yeah from an accuracy standpoint true thats bad..like the first quote said though he sounds like a tough guy to read...from all accounts I think he seems like a good dude and much tougher than the one guy said...its internet draft talk...you have to take everything you see/read with a grain of salt.
he was arrested for obstructing without violence and from people i know personally that were at the said bar that night he in no way got physical with the police or anyone else but was rather trying to keep some of his non football playing boys from being arrested who we're actually involved in the altercation. Basically he got arrested for trying to keep his boys from going to jail by asking the officers repeatedly to let his friends go and they would all leave. All reports not based out of tampa i have read make it sound like duke was directly involved with the brawl when that couldn't have been further from the truth. I have friends that were at bobalouies that night when it all went down and they all say the same thing and that was that mike did not get physical with anyone.djm13 wrote:Not sure whether the fact that it was off or on campus makes much difference..though I read he also resisted arrest...but yeah from an accuracy standpoint true thats bad..like the first quote said though he sounds like a tough guy to read...from all accounts I think he seems like a good dude and much tougher than the one guy said...its internet draft talk...you have to take everything you see/read with a grain of salt.
heres an article about what actually went down
USF's Jenkins, Williams arrested, suspended
USF defensive backs Mike Jenkins and Carlton Williams, two of the team's most experienced returning players, were arrested in Tampa early Friday morning and charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and obstructing or opposing an officer without violence after a large disturbance outside a bar.
USF coach Jim Leavitt has suspended both players indefinitely until he can learn more about the circumstances of their arrests.
"I'm very disappointed," Leavitt said in a statement. "I'm continuing to gather information on the matter, but I am very disappointed in the hour that this took place. Mike and Carlton will be suspended and will not practice while we gather further information."
Williams, 21, and Jenkins, who turned 22 Thursday, were arrested by Hillsborough County Sheriff's officers around 3 a.m. Friday at 1913 Bearss Avenue, which is the address for Bobalouie's Pub, not far from USF's campus. Both were booked and released on $750 bond Friday morning.
USF started spring football practice Tuesday, and Friday was the team's first day off since practice started. Jenkins, from Bradenton, is entering his fourth year as a starting cornerback and briefly considered leaving early for the NFL Draft before opting to return for his senior season. Williams, from Valdosta, Ga., had 43 tackles as a sophomore, starting eight games at free safety after starting 12 as a freshman. He's listed as the team's starting strong safety on the spring depth chart.
Williams and Jenkins could not initially be reached for comment Friday. The only players on USF's roster with more career starts are cornerback Trae Williams (32) and linebacker Ben Moffitt (30).

Seems as though this is being blown out of proportion due to pac mans antics over the last couple years.

From a philosophical perspective, the most valuable player on the late 90s/early 00s Rams offense was Orlando Pace.still illiterate wrote:
picks 4 and 5 are better then the first 3.
If this Long guy is a Pace/Ogden figure, then he is easily the best pick in this draft.
When you're building a football team, you always start with the offensive line. This goes without saying, of course.

[quote="Gregg Popabitch"][quote="Prophecy"]Sources: Chiefs agree to send franchise player Allen to Vikes

Haha, stop lying. You went to the Matt Millen school of football thought if that post was any indication.still illiterate wrote:thanks for the football lesson homey. I learned a lot

That doesn't make you any different than most football fans, though. Everybody sleeps on the offensive trenches. Orlando Pace is the one that makes RBs, WRs, and QBs better. Not vice versa, correct?
