it looks like hank isn't the only one pissed about the way the twins played boston and ny against each other.

reports are that boston has contacted oakland and milwaukee about dan haren and ben sheets respectively. The Mariners also asked about Ben Sheets.

played against eachother? According to every report ever the twins have been very clear to these teams what it will take to get johan and that has not change, regardless of the other teams involved.

according to the reports, the twins wanted the yankees to add hughes which they weren't in the beginning. fine, when the yanks did that, the twins said that isn't good enough, they had to add kennedy on top of hughes. not exactly clear from the jump. they might've been clear with the red sox (they wanted ellsbury) but no way were they clear with the yankees and they pretty much used the yankees. let's be real.

don't get offended by the truth. the fact that the twins are playing the evil empires against each other to get the better deal. this is the only way you guys will probably get a decent deal. me as a fan of the yanks dislike it. boston fans probably do too. you as twins fans should LOVE it. since when do middle market teams hold big market teams hostage? rarely. this is one of them. don't lie to yourselves though.

witch hunt? it's the god damn truth. i only look for rumors and post them about the johan situation. unfortunately, all the rumors about boston and ny today revolve around other pitchers. strange.

I could find at least 5 quotes that refute this. but I won't waste my time. My impression after reading basically everything available on this mess is the Twins wanted a specific deal that included Hughes (and others.) First the Yankees wouldn't even give up Hughes. Than they decided to offer Hughes but not the other players the Twins wanted from the beginning. Hank and the YAnkees feel like they can continue to negotiate and lowball, and than place some retarded deadline to accept a deal the Twins have maintained they will not take from the beginning.

The fact Beane and McPhail are asking more for Bedard and Haren than the Yankees are offering for Santana should clue you into the fact that the current Yankee offer never was the Twins asking price...

lol @ using McPhail. First of all, Mcphail high balls everyone. Look at what he asked for tejada and tell me that isn't crazy. He is historically extremely hard to deal with as he asks for the moon for all his players. Plus you can argue that Bedard IS more valuable then Johan considering he has 2 years remaining on a contract that pays him dirt considering when you trade Johan, you have to give him 150 million extension.

Beane, from what I heard/read, is not being unreasonable. Just with the Mets cause Omar Minaya is a moron. Plus Haren has 3 years left on a contract that is very reasonable.

Both the red sox and the yanks offered, imo, pretty good offers. they both offered top 5-10 prospects in all of baseball imo in hughes and ellsbury. and then two second tier prospects on top of that. That is the going rate for all star players on the trading block. I doubt you'll get better offers then that from anyone else. Worst comes to worst, you guys can try to win a division and then get a second round draft pick next year for your troubles instead of 1 great prospects and 2 good ones.

Basically I agree with you, except on the quality of the offers. IMO, the perception that the Twins HAVE to trade Johan really has driven the price down. I rather sit on Johan than take less than bucholz/crisp/masterson/lowerie or ellursby/lester from the red sox or kennedy/hughes/melky from the yanks. I'm sure the Twins have similar specific deals they would take. I'm at the point of saying if the Sox or the Yankees don't give us exactly the players we want they can go fuck themselves.

if the twins get ellsbury and lester from the sox, then johan should go to the sox. if they don't get both or buch instead of lester, i'm going to feel kinda jipped. i'm just glad the yankees are actually keeping young players for a change.

All along, the Yankees seemed to believe that the Red Sox weren't seriously pursuing Santana, that the Boston game plan was to stay just interested enough to force the Yankees to overpay for him. Apparently not.

One source who spoke with the Red Sox delegation told ESPN.com that the Red Sox group was just sitting around its suite Monday night, watching the Patriots-Ravens game, when Smith called and asked to see Lester's medicals.

That got those teams' wheels turning again -- and did so, coincidentally, at the same time the Yankees were almost simultaneously beginning to talk themselves out of this trade.

Officials from other clubs said several of the Yankees' baseball personnel at the meetings had begun openly questioning whether they even wanted to make this trade if the Twins said yes.

"The more this goes on," said one AL executive, "the less they want to do it."

The Twins haven't budged since Friday. They wanted Kennedy then, and they still did on Monday.

Meanwhile, officials from other clubs said some Yankees baseball personnel at the meetings have continued to agonize over the inclusion of Hughes in their offer, out of fear Hughes could come back to haunt them for years. So clearly, the decision to include Hughes in the first place was far from unanimous.

Cashman admitted there's a fear that players he might trade could win Cy Young Awards for another team.

"I'm definitely fully invested in a lot of the young talent. You get attached to it," Cashman said, according to the AP.

i said i'm willing to resign myself to the fact that boston will get him. i wanted boston to get him since monday. i felt the twins were asking too much (even though i would've thought about the rumored hughes/melky/jackson/horne offer). in the end i'm glad the yankees didn't break up the joba-ian-phil triumverate. i think phil can be a damn good pitcher in a couple years. the yanks HAVE come to their senses. they are keeping the talent they are developing finally instead of bending over backwards and trading them for every joe schmoe and sammy so-so (or in this case, an ace like Johan). for this, i'm glad.

I don't mean "fucking kill someone" in a happy way. I think that deal is shit. Considering what guys like Beltran and Teixeira fetched recently in somewhat similar situations I'm still a little in shock at these offers.
