Albums You Actually Pay For
The Radiohead thread got me thinking, what albums are worth actually buying , even if you could get them for free?
Of course, these days you can get every album for free.
So, who have you actually bought albums from in the past few years?
When you do, why? To show support for the artist? To have the highest quality audio? The album art/liner notes? Bonus content?
I actually bought Mastodon and Amon Amarth's albums, pretty much for a combination of all the reasons above.
How about you?

hip hop, I'm mostly buying Def Jux shit, i won't lie, because they seem to put a lot more effort in everything from the music to the packaging so you know it's something you are gonna want to have on an original CD. Other than that, I buy reissues of older stuff, classics I never bought growing up.
I buy CDs at concerts a lot when I like a band. And I also buy CDs from either, a band that really blew me away...like say Gojira...or band's I've been checking for since highschool and have yet to let me down, like Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, The Dillinger Escape Plan.
I used to be a fiend with buying CDs, but have all but given up on spending money on CDs since I got a real job after college and started paying my own bills.
Back growing up when I was living with my moms and working crappy part time jobs, pretty much all my money went on music related items..I'm talking 90 percent.

I buy 90% of the music I talk about..
Been copping the the Cold Chillin re-issues..
Nice packaging makes me want to buy cd's and I like having the original art etc..
I've always collected somthing.. from Star Wars figures..to comics.. to music and movies..
I like being able to show someone upfront "check this out" and supporting people that make music I like is important to me because I don't want to see it become too much for an artist to get his work out with out support...

used to actually buy when it was the only thing i spent money on (high school)
now that i have no money ever, forever and ever, i gank my own shit
but i do buy cds off friends and other artists i perform with on the same bill just to support their next tour stop
but collecting anything that isnt worth actual money is ridiculous to me since i dont care about keeping a 15 dollar cd in good condition

Re: Albums You Actually Pay For
I buy albums for every one of those reasons. If I really like an artist I'll buy all of their stuff. If I love an album I'll always buy it. Whenever I get the chance I always buy something I think is good. I still d/l a ton of stuff though. I just don't have the kind of money to be spending on every album I want to check out. but if I like it I will cop it, no doubt.Masked Terror #1 wrote:When you do, why? i buy a lot of music. roughly $150 worth a week.
most of that comes from vinyl digging, but i'm also an impulse buyer in the cd store.
i'll buy anything from feeling the need to support it to morbid curiosity.
it's a problem.

Any Sly And The Family Album.
I buy cd's and vinyl because I want them. Downloading mp3's is wack for the most part and the only reason I do it is if I'm straight broke or if its something I literally can't get a hard copy of.
