Earache Records

Where do we start and finish with this label?

Not much of a fan of their two original flagship artists, Napalm Death or Carcass, personally, i was more a fan of when the label expanded in the early 90s and started putting out stuff that was less death-metal, more fucked up dirty sludge noize.

Stuff like "Streetcleaner" and "Slavestate" EP by Godflesh and "Sleep's Holy Mountain" by Sleep. B0mbz Of Death recently said he thinks Sleep's debut is the best record to come out of the whole Abspestos Death/Sleep/High On Fire/Om lineage and i gotta agree. Yeah, "Dopesmoker" and "Blessed Black Wings" are classics and are the ones everyone sweats but the debut is simply unfuckwithable. "Dragonaut", yo!

I rate "Hate Songs In E. Minor" and the "Teeth" EP by Fudge Tunnel ridiculously highly but i totally slept on them back in the day until Yak put me onto 'em a few years back so i'm not even gonna front like i was bumpin' some Fudge Tunnel (ayo) next to "'Til Death Do Us Part", "Intoxicated Demons" and "Doggy Style" in '93.

Who else was there? Terrorizer get props for being one of the first mid 80s post-Siege grindcore bands. Entombed were probably the best of all their death metal bands. "Left Hand Path" is a truly sick album. I saw Cathedral live and was impressed by their 'Vitus-like doom-groove but never checked any of their shit. What's worth investigating? And then there was Scorn, although weren't they like techno bleeps with death metal Cookie Monster vocals and blastbeat drumming or something equally ridiculous? Weren't Clutch originally on Earche too?

Give it up.

I've never actually heard any Clutch. I thought they're like Helmet or something in that vein. Are they, in actuality, type-Ithithkle?

Nah the first Clutch record had me spin kicking for krishna back in the day. This actually turned into the Passive Restraints EP. Actually never for Krshna, just for more cheep 40's. Arlene likes the Doors and Janes Addiction, ergo loss of validity in a man music debate.

Fudge Tunnel was the shit. Nailbomb not so much.

The only band I heard from Earache lately was Cult of Luna and they were pretty much a Neur-isis rip off.

always found Bolt Thrower boring. ALthough a band I had in highschool played a song off the fourth crusade. Too slow for death metal.

And I think CUlt of Luna are awesome. While definately influenced by Neurosis, I think they have their own sound. My favorite is The Beyond which is heavier than anything Neurosis has done in the last ten years, it's like a soundtrack to buildings falling on your head.

That Terrorizer album is classic. Everyone should be forced to own it.

I believe this is the correct emoticon to use after such a revelation?

Oh shit, i forgot all about Coalesce putting out a couple of EPs on Earache. "002" is nuts but i never was able to find the split one they did.

Man, how could i forget the Naked City album and Brutal Truth? That first Brutal Truth album with the really long title ("Extreme Conditions Require Intensive Purposes" or something like that) is blistering.

Didn't know that Extreme Noise Terror and Deicide were on Earache at some point in the respective careers, either. Glen Benton - ROFL Macchio.

Being that you're mostly older heads I suppose none of you fuck with bands like The Berzerker, Blood Red Throne, or Decapitated?

The only Earache bands I fuck with anymore are Municipal Waste and Cult of Luna. I think Relapse has stolen their thunder, at least in the states.
