The New England Patriots have reached a trade agreement in principle to acquire wide receiver Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders for a fourth-round round choice in Sunday's second day of the NFL draft.

There are still details to be completed, including Moss passing a physical examination by the Patriots' medical staff, but league sources said they expect the deal to be competed. As part of a trade, Moss would restructure and perhaps even extend his current contract, which calls for base salaries of $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008.
Oakland and New England officials conducted on and off negotiations for the last several days. The Raiders, who acquired Moss from Minnesota in 2005, have been shopping the wide receiver much of the offseason.
Moss, 30, has not participated in any of the offseason conditioning sessions conducted by first-year head coach Lane Kiffin and the suspicion is that he would not show up for the start of training camp.
Acquiring the once-explosive Moss would perhaps be the defining moment of an offseason in which New England coach Bill Belichick and personnel chief Scott Pioli have worked to dramatically upgrade the team's receiving corps. New England added former Miami wideout Wes Welker in a trade and signed unrestricted free agents Donte Stallworth (Philadelphia) and Kelley Washington (Cincinnati).
In nine seasons, Moss has 676 receptions for 10,700 yards and 101 touchdowns. He is coming off a 2006 season in which he played in 11 games and registered 42 catches for 553 yards and three touchdowns, career lows in all those categories.

he just ran a 4.28- 40 last week. he only takes plays off because he feels that if his team isnt goin anywhere why play hard. he will lead all receivers in yards and td catches this year.CaPaBLe_KeL wrote:jesus guys...get a clue. it aint 2000. for the Patriots to be bad, Brady would have to miss the entire season, and even then they will still be decent

Bottom line, its up to Randy. He's been in great situations before, and the only time he took advantage of it was his rookie year when he wanted to prove everyone wrong. He's probably could be the greatest receiver in the history of the league if he wanted to be (standard sportswriter line there).
Seems like a good fit though considering an asshole like Cory Dillon excelled there and got his ring.

again...the word isnt out on how bad his back really is, moss loves the attention and drama, he'll have acouple amazing games, but you can always trust randy to be randy in the end.
in 98, i partied with him til 2 am sat. night, and he played the next day and caught 2 tds and 130 yards on 4 catches...and he was hung over.
nobody loves randy more than me.
you would be wise to take advantage of my wisdom of this matter
45 catches
550 yards.

As someone who watched almost every Raiders game last year because my best friend is a diehard...Randy Moss simply didn't try last year. The routes he was running..you can't even call them routes, he would just jog out 10-15 yards. I don't know if it was because of his back..he hated the team and wanted out, he got his way and I'd expect him to produce this year. Is he going to put up the type of numbers he produced in Minnesota all those years? Eh, probably not. But he's only one year removed from a 1,000 yard season and I'd expect him to at least get to that.

keep in mind that the Pats are a run first team..when you have a Maroney back there and the TE and array of WRS they already have.
there might not be enough balls for randy, and randy pouts if he isnt getting alot of throws..even if they are winning.
Brian isnt about to massage randys ego, and if randy doesnt get massaged..he gets bitchy

i agree with CaPaBLe_KeL, NE is a running team, and Brady spreads the ball around more than any QB in the league. Sure Moss will get the long balls and TDs, but not that many catches. NE will probably win the Super Bowl, but they could have done it without Moss. Brady made Jabar Gaffney into a good reciever last postseason. Stallworth, Caldwell, Welker, Jackson, Gaffney, and Washington is a pretty good recieving core for Brady. Maroney and Faulk will catch some balls too. So, if people think Moss will get 80 receptions, how many completions is Brady going to have?
Could be wrong though. Brady could love him and he could be a top reciever. If he stays healthy and doesn't bitch and if he is still the same Moss from Minnesota.
