hip hop 101 for youngins
long story short i have 3 cuzzins i recently met for the first time
ages 5, 8, 10
they live in the middle of nowhere
and the only rap they know is the stuff that makes it to non-rap radio
they are open to hear new stuff. very eager to learn actually.
they used to ask to hear *insert bad rap song with 3 notes here* every time they got in my car
now they ask for snoop or cypress hill or today, i was skippin thru songs and the 10 year old asked me to go back to TROY. <3 also played them ice cube for the first time, as they only know him as an actor (straight outta compton).
post up some tracks and some uploadthatshit links if u'd like

them: i wasnt born

thanks for the suggestions...
Jaz, they are really open to listen to just anything right now. like i said they have no access to anything other than whats on radio and tv. come to think of it, they dont watch tv that much. most of the hip hop they know comes from the video games they play (was TROY in a basketball game? and they like anything that was on Radio Los Santos)
i am thinking i'd like to make them a mix of some fun summery stuff now that its getting warmer out here, see who they like the best then i can get them some stuff along those lines.
they also <3 reef cause he gave them free shirts at our last show.
on a funny kinda side note
i was playing cypress hill IV for them and the 8 year old said
"what website is that from?"
me: "it's a cd"
"but what site did it come from?"
me: ... it's... it's a cd... cd's come first then go on websites?
him: ooooo
interesting take on the times...

I'd say all early era Hiero:
The first Casual, First Souls, First two dels, that extra prolific album.
Bizarre Ride is a good call to.
By far though, De La Soul is Dead just hella sounds like an album that kids could get into.
Personally, when I was in the 8 to 10 range I started on the first three fresh prince albums (rock the house, he's the dj, ...and in this corner). I had convinced my dad to buy me NWA and 2 Live Crew, but at that age I understood the topics on the Fresh Prince shit, and the jokes were corny and I got them and found them funny. I don't think you need to start them off with shit they SHOULD like. Give 'em stuff they probably will like to get them used to the genre, and then start trying to influence them once they kinda get what's going on.
ODB (as said above) and Biz might be some good starters also.
