Merriman deserves D MVP

Post by Tweak Da Leak »

fuck al the steroid bullshit award no go horsecock

J Peppers was suspended his rookie season for steroids and took home ROY honors

Merriman dominated competition this year, and his stats are dominant for a 16 week season(nevermind he only played 12 games)

Get the fuck outta here.

I don't get why this guy has gotten basically a free pass for taking steroids.

Brian Dawkins or Jason Taylor should get nods over that homo.

Taylor easily should get this. It's a nice way to go out too.

But I wouldn't be made if BD got it either.

Plus you're saying he preformed so much better with just 12 games than anyone did in 16? Gimme a break. This shouldn't be a debate whatsoever.

Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor was named Friday morning as the 2006 NFL's Defensive Player of the Year.

Taylor received 22 of 50 first-place votes to edge Denver cornerback Champ Bailey, who finished with 16 votes. San Diego outside linebacker Shawne Merriman was third with six votes, followed by Chicago's Brian Urlacher with four.

Just cause it happened before doesn't mean it should happen again.

i'm just sayin he was punished, no where does it say you can't win awards if your suspended

JT won fine, i think Champ Bailey deserved it more(picking off 10% of the passes in yoru direction being a shutdown corner, and helping on the run game)

but JT's campaigning was what really irked me...

anyway the real shaft of the year was Marcus McNeill not winning ROY

over balco bullshit

what is it with niggas from the bay area supporting roid heads no matter what? i'm starting to become convinced most bay area fans would root for anything that has no balls.

Speculating is just dumb. Yes, steroid use is probably common in the NFL, but Im not going to go pointing fingers until tangible evidence shows up on the table.

OFFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
There's no doubt that Tennessee quarterback Vince Young can run with the best of ג€˜em. He ran past defenses throughout his rookie campaign, and he ran away with the Offensive Rookie of the Year award yesterday.

Heג€™s a great talent ג€“ but clearly the wrong choice for the honor in the eyes of the Cold, Hard Football Facts. In some years, when the rookie class has been so-so, Young could be the pick ג€“ but in this Year of the Rookie?

Hell no.

Young got an awful lot of credit for Tennesseeג€™s unexpected 8-8 finish, but the Cold, Hard Football Facts tell us much of this credit was undue.

Cold, Hard Football Fact: Young had a terrible season as a passer. His final passer rating of 66.7 was 30th in the league ג€“ worse than Brad Johnson, worse than Charlie Frye, worse than Joey Harrington. This alone should disqualify him from contention for any postseason honor, regardless of his wonderful running ability (552 yards, 6.7 YPA).

Cold, Hard Football Fact: The Tennessee offense was not very good. The Titans finished 16th in the NFL in scoring, which sounds decent until you consider their eight touchdowns on returns. They ranked 27th in yards (300.6), 26th in offensive TDs (28) and 31st in TD passes (13). Only the historically inept Raiders scored fewer TDs through the air.

Cold, Hard Football Fact: Tennesseeג€™s six-game win streak would not have been so impressive without a historic performance by the Titans defense. Remember, it was the defense that scored three TDs in a 24-17 mid-December win over Jacksonville. The Tennessee offense that day accounted for just five first downs, 98 total yards and held the ball for 15 minutes and 38 seconds.

Were the Titans a surprise 8-8? Sure. Was Young exciting? Yes. If thereג€™s an Offensive Rookie Who Surprised You and Excited You Award, Young is our pick.

But there isnג€™t, and heג€™s not.

So who is the Offensive Rookie of the Year? Hereג€™s a hint: He was the best rookie on the best team in the league.

Itג€™s Marcus McNeill, the beefy (336 pounds) offensive tackle out of Auburn who anchored the all-important ג€œblind sideג€ of the San Diego offensive line.

McNeill is no ordinary offensive linemen: Heג€™s the starting left tackle for the best offensive line in football (No. 1 in our Hog Index), for the best offense in football (30.75 PPG), and for the record-setting best running back in football (San Diego Superman LaDainian Tomlinson).

You'll see no highlights of our OT, unless you break down game film in your spare time. But he got plenty of results.

I don't agree with his assessment of Vince Young's ability based on passer rating(BS stat) but the defensive argument is solid

McNeil in a year when Jones and Ogden slipped on quite a few occasions solidified himself into the upper echelon of Left Tackles his rookie year...that fact right there is amazing

listen merriman's my boy and i love watching him play, but even if you don't take the steroids into consideration jason taylor had a better year than him. statistically all merriman had going for him were the sacks. taylor had way more dimensions stats-wise.

and he never mentioned travis henry, who considering his constant on and of f injuries in the last two yeras, did pretty damn good this year.

1211 yds. and 7 tds, 4.5 yds. a carry- not that shabby for only playing 14 games, as well as sharing some carries with lendale white, and chris brown (in the beginning at least).

i never said he wasn't deserving of the award, his campaigning for himself was ridiculous(like beating your wife before a contract extension is a good example to kids)

he made himself out to be a fool that was genuinely scarred of the dominance merriman showed after his suspension, thinking 56 might take his precious award from him

Champ Bailey was more deserving, some stat showed that he picked off almost 10% of the balls thrown his way...ridiculous
