The English were lucky to even make it to penalty kicks. The fact of the matter is this: They played their best game of the tournament against a team that turned in arguably their weakest performance - and still lost. The only people who consider England an elite team are the English themselves.

What happened in 2000 or 2004 really has no bearing on this discussion. Besides two of Portugals three wins were on penalty kicks. Hardly decisive victores.

I'll grant you that Portugal did have two of their players missing, but England was without Rooney, Beckham, and Owen some or all of the way as well.

How can the English be lucky to make it to penalties when they outplayed Portugal? Lets be real here. Portugal was the lucky team after England had all of those chances. Portugal didn't exactly blow me away against the Netherlands either.

I freely admit that England didn't play up to its capabilities. They did have a pretty terrible World Cup, but their's no denying the talent they had on that team. So yeah, I think that when both of those teams are playing up to their capabilities England is taking it 8 outta 10 times.

I'd be very surprised if Portugal beat France the way that the French are playing.

The hosts are out.

Great defensive match. Probably my favourite match of the eliminations, followed by the Germany Argentina game.

Germany didn't seem like they were on their game as much as earlier in the eliminations. Perhaps they were nervous in front of a raucous home crowd? Or were they overwhelmed by the Italian defense?

I'm thinking the final will be Italy - Portugal.

great fucking game! what stood out to me most was the refereeing, which made the game that much better. that's how you ref a damn game. also great defense, although each team had their chances italy just had more energy at the end. they impressed a lot, they're a great team and deserved it. germany is young, but i think they missed their chance to win a world cup.

Also, I think 9 players from Italy have scored goals in this World Cup so far, pretty damn impressive.

agreed. I cant even remember any time in the game today where a German went down, but I remember about 10 different instances where Italy did. They're huge faggots, but they played well

Germany dove alot in this game as well. It seems like Italy dives because they are constantly on the ground. There's a difference between selling fouls and diving, Italy sells fouls the best they can, and alot of the times there are actual fouls committed and the Italians just make it seem like they got murdered. In this game most of the fouls commited against Italy were legit as far as I could tell.

it was a great game. unlike the other Italian games this tournament I really enjoyed watching them play today. they didnt play typically Italian (catenaccio). props to Lippi for bringin on an attacker for a midfielder in extra time. what a finish by one of my all time favorite players: Del Piero. Cannavaro and Pirlo did it for Italy. Cannavaro was very strong in defense and Pirlo his control and passes are

looking forward to an Italy - France final. let's hope Zidane will not get a yellow card tomorrow.
