Tucker Becomes Highest-Paid Actor, Says Report
New Line has agreed to pay Chris Tucker $25 million to appear in Rush Hour 3, making him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, according to FoxNews.com's Roger Friedman. Friedman commented that the figure is all the more remarkable considering the fact that Tucker has starred in only two other films -- both of them the Rush Hour movies. Friedman observed that Rush Hour 2 holds the record for the highest gross of any comedy and that the total worldwide take for the first two films is about $600 million. Both the previous Rush Hour also star Jackie Chan alongside Tucker.

obviously this is just counting upfront salary and not back-end profit cuts like a tom cruise would do. still, i was wondering why chris tucker dont work..the mufucka dont have to! more power to him.

I kinda hate this because no way is Chris Tucker worth over $5 million, and Jackie is way more vital to the series than Chris Tucker is. And yet, if you give Jackie Chan a solo picture it probably wouldn't make much money. It's a shame that even though he's the draw, Tucker's probably making more than double what chan is.

ALthough I highly doubt he gets all of it. I mean, for the ENTIRE asian market? That would be insane. Hundreds of millions of dollars. But even if he just gets a percentage, yeah, that'd be big money.
how do you figure jackie is more vital to the picture? if that was true they coulda paid mike epps twenty bucks to do this.StormShadow wrote:I kinda hate this because no way is Chris Tucker worth over $5 million, and Jackie is way more vital to the series than Chris Tucker is. Chris Tucker is fat.
I wish they would watch The 5th Element before offering him $25 million.

I just figure it that way because I like Jackie better. But honestly, a solo Jackie picture wouldn't make much money, and a Tucker one probably wouldn't either. But for whatever reason when you put them together, they make tons of money. For that reason I don't think it's cool for Tucker to become the highest paid actor ever when he's just not worth it. They should both be getting $15 million. When Tucker toplines a hugely successful movie where he's clearly the star, then I'll believe.Martin wrote:how do you figure jackie is more vital to the picture? if that was true they coulda paid mike epps twenty bucks to do this.StormShadow wrote:I kinda hate this because no way is Chris Tucker worth over $5 million, and Jackie is way more vital to the series than Chris Tucker is. Looking at Money Talks made me decide to see how much Tucker is really saying. He's toplined four movies, Money Talks, the Rush Hours, and Friday. Friday made less than $30 million, MT made almost $41 million, and the Rush Hours made over $350 million. These are domestic grosses.
Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies, when they get dubbed and rereleased here generally made in the neighborhood of $10 million. Rumble in the Bronx made $32 million, Shanghai Noon made almost $57 million, Shanghai Knights made over $60 million, and the Tuxedo made over $50 million, and I doubt anybody saw that for Jennifer Love Hewitt. On the other hand, Around the World in 80 Days and the Medallion combined for less than $50 million.
The Rush Hour movies are both Chan and Tucker's most successful movies. Chan is more successful on his own, especially overseas. The success of the Rush Hour franchise seems kind of like a fluke in light of their other box office performances. That said, Tucker does not deserve anywhere near $25 million. He just isn't a proven commodity in my mind. Doesn't help that he's been incognito the past five years.

I feel you tho. Jackie is a legend and I've always liked Chris Tucker...but come on man!
The thing is, Jackie and Tucker are actually really good buddies from what I heard and it really took everyone by suprise when Tucker asked for all that money. I know it's all buinsess but shit...Tucker is acting like he is the one and only draw. Granted, "The Medallion"(which has it's moments) and "Around The World"(which is awesome) didn't do that great...But Jackie is a huge star both in the US and overseas.
I really don't think the series would work without both of them together to be honest though, so I'm glad it all worked out.
Don't forget who's directing this either.lol
stormshadow has really put his foot down against chris tucker. dog's not having it.
