Stephon Urkelle - I hated him so much. They shoulda just kept him as Urkel, but when they fucked with it in order to give Laura a steady love interest, it all went downhill.

I was in LOVE with Myra and her big ol' titties.

Urkel's car was fucking ridiculous.

Remember when Urkel lost all his money playing poker?

I hated Richie.

Rachel was hot.

Mother Winslow got married. I didn't like that.

I talked about this show at work a while ago and thoroughly clowned for it. But I watched this show every Friday, and that's real.

Unfortunately I can't remember any of the stories except the ones involving Stephon

Does anyone remember the short lived Family Matter spinoff? I think it was called "The New Family Matters" or something like that

I can't find any info on it on the net, I hope I'm not insane

Little known myth or fact?: this show was actually meant to be a Perfect Strangers spin off at first.

Supposedly Harriet worked in the same office as Mark Linn Baker's character on the show....the shows both took place in Chicago and I have no precise proof that this was true....

If it is though, it would be fuckin hilarious.

my favorite episode was when urkel and carl were locked in a factory together. and they were reminiscing. some burglars came and the were like oh shit wtf. then steve found the transformer and they both became bruce lee clones and teared shit up. classic.

I watched this show for a while, but when Stefan Urquell started to get tossed in the mix, I got sick of it. One of my favorite episodes (which was referenced last week in the Saved By the Bell thread) was when Eddie got harassed for being black and Carl had to break his fellow officers off one time

I liked the episode that took place entirely over the phone. Eddie was on the treadmill or something and Waldo was in the tub and they were talking about Waldo's date with some skeezo.

The girl asked Waldo if he wanted to see Maclom X and he said he hadnt seen 1 through 9.

Waldo said he put his jacket over a puddle for her, AND THEN HE PUT IT ON HER!!!!!!!

that is one of the most classic episodes ever.

the skeezo was laura's best friend. i forgot her name. AWESOME EPISODE, thanks for bringing me back.

I hated this show for the same reason I hate Family Guy.

Pointless jokes, huge following over a shit character and all a rip off of one of the greatest shows of all time (in this case of course, we're talking about The Cosby Show).

how is the show a ripoff of the cosby show? cause it's a black family living together where there is no single mothers raising kids on their own? gfoh.

I'm not saying that Family Matters was an original masterpiece, but it wasn't a rip-off of The Cosby Show. The central tenets to The Cosby Show were that both parents were professionals and education is more important than breathing. On Family Matters it was all about Carl playing straight man to Urkel and Eddie and Waldo are dumbasses. In fact, over time the central family took a backseat to these shenannigans (Laura being the most prominent as Steve's love interest). To be honest, I see Family Matters as an amalgam of Growing Pains and Eight Is Enough with maybe a little All in the Family thrown in.

Family Matters had nothing in common at all with The Cosby Show besides race. Any similarities lie within the format of the sitcom. Dr Huxtable was an infallible patriarch, whose character was meant to be a role model for Black fathers, while Carl Winslow was somewhat bumbling and had weight issues that almost cost him is job. Fuck a Cosby.
