When Ice Cube announced it earlier this week, it was hard to believe that Dr. Dre actually had an album coming out today, August 1 — it’s been 16 years since his last one (2001, released in 1999), and his musical output has been sporadic at best since then. Today, though, as part of his Beats 1 show for Apple Music, the legendary N.W.A. member announced that Compton, an album he made as a companion to the upcoming biopic of his group, Straight Outta Compton, will drop exclusively on iTunes on August 7.
The new LP’s reportedly got guests like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and more in the mix. It follows the death of his long-awaited Detox, which Dre explained during the show. “The record [Detox] — it just wasn’t good,” he said as his cohosts went completely silent. “I don’t think I did a good enough job, and I couldn’t do that to my fans, and I couldn’t do that to myself.”
Look for Compton on August 7.

all this means is that whoever the guest on a track is, they will have written Dre's verse (most likely, unless just Em and Kendrick wrote for the whole thing).

Probably the record he's talking about wasn't good is the one put together around when kush and i need a doctor came out. Which means it probly wasn't that good.
Duno what to expect from this one. It looks like a dre album -- couple of solo joints, lotta features, possibly kendrick taking a lead on writing. For the time being i'll assume it's a cash grab. When has dre been able to finish an album especially on someone else's timeline?

I don't think Dre is hurting for money. If he was looking for a quick buck off of music he would have dropped something this century already.
Not sure what to think of this, or if dre is even capable of making good music anymore. I'll listen, of course, but I'm not expecting much.

Re: Dr Dre "Compton" album? aug 7th
Isn't Anderson Paak Dumbfounded? Or am I bugging? I could be totally wrong but I know I heard that name before.
EDIT: lol, I'm retarded. It's not Dumbfounded but I did hear about him on tui's podcast.

Anderson Paak is dope. R&B dude that was at some point affiliated w/ the Hellfyre Club.
He's got an album coming out with Knxwledge on Stones Throw. First single:
His album 'Venice' that came out last year was good too.

Judging from that track list, there's no way this album will include a song that bangs as hard as the recent Warren G & Nate Dogg single:
Warren G w/ Nate Dogg - My House
First rap song to interpolate Mr Fingers AND Madness.

Justus is that white rapper from a Dallas suburb The D.O.C signed a year or so ago

King Mez is from North Carolina, I think.
aka google that shit.
all in all there's very little "Compton" about this album.

For real, one of the most retarded things EDM has said, and that's something. Yeah, a billionaire is making a cash grab by releasing music, which is definitely profitable as fuck these days907 wrote:EMCEE DARTH MALEK wrote:Probably the record he's talking about wasn't good is the one put together around when kush and i need a doctor came out. Feelin this anderson paak dude. Great voice for dre to work with.
^^^does anybody really wanna hear ren in 2015? Dude's flow has sounded dated since 1991. His exclusion suggests this is more of a real dre album than just a movie tie-in (something c-span's cocksauce apparently doesn't understand the concept of)

Re: Dr Dre "Compton" album? aug 7th
back when i was doing the Knocksteady shit 2011...the first podcast / live performance show i ever did was with Mike Eagle, and the 3rd one ever was with Breezy Lovejoy (who later became Anderson .Paak). i'm pretty sure this is his first video ever on youtube, and if not it's one of them. we ended up bringing him into the mix a lot at knocksteady and he became part of that thing...but in the last 4 years he's come a really long way and i've always thought he's going to be huge so this has been exciting to see.Blockhead wrote: EDIT: lol, I'm retarded. edit: this is maybe my favorite song of his
also we had a video for that song "suede" on my Kinda Neat channel a full year before Stones Throw put it out and I think it would've been one of our biggest videos if we hadn't had to take it down.
