No hardcore borkery going on over here bro. I've been bumping this shit nonstop for the last 2 months or so. It shits on Drake's whole catalogue, all of Pusha's solo joints and anything Kendrick has been near. Get to know:

Lol @ stooping so low as to look for "quotables". You guys are the same ones who claim Wayne fell off, when all he has done is fall back on your vaunted "quotables" in lieu of more detailed verses , which is really the style that Drake has aped. I like Drake, but that has very little to do with his lyrical prowess.
Anyway, Kendrick's verse on "Fuckin Problem" bodies shit if that's what you're looking for.

Co-signed.
The whole "quotables" thing reminds me what Obama's team said about the writing of his race speech during the '08 campaign. He deliberately wrote the speech in a way that was not susceptible to having soundbytes clipped out of it. Anyone who wanted to find out what the speech was about would have to listen to the whole thing...or at least to large chunks of it. Soundbytes--or "quotables"--are fun, but are more often than not ephemeral and superficial.
So in answer to Mindbender's question, how about we talk songs...or even better, albums? Nothing that Drake has done is in the same universe as GKMC.
iCONtheMicKing wrote:Not sure, but I've liked every body of work he has released thus far.
I feel the same way. That has as much to do with the sound the "Drake team" developed since So Far Gone as it does with Drake as a rapper/ singer/ person who puts words together and then records them. If you're a behind-the-boards kind of guy and you don't find anything you like in Drake's catalog, I'm guessing it's because you very strictly like and create one type of sound or you just refuse to let yourself give it a chance.
I actually prefer probably everything else Drake has done to this record. This is one of the first time's it sounds like Drake's forcibly trying to cater to people that are more or less his peripheral listeners. But I'll still keep it in rotation for a little while.

yeah, except for So Far Gone, which was a classic without Dr. Dre or a marketing budget. HOLLA.
I think quotables is one way to quantify the intangible, and make our arguments clearer. But they both got clunker verses (Drake probably has more in BOTH directions, admittedly... and MO' BETTA ONES, personally LOL) so whatever, people have their preference and always will.
but I just don't think Kendrick always comes with it as an MC. One of the best things I think I EVER heard him do in his life was his verse in the BET Cipher last year. Other times he excels at one thing but underwhelms at another. I find most of his stuff to be like the 'Control' verse: kinda ill at the time, but it doesn't seem to last long in my life. Kendrick DID body Jay-Z on the 'Kill My Vibe' remix though, I'm not a hater. I just am not always impressed by him... and I don't think he's as creative as Drake is, on a visionary level.

L O fucking L at Drake being a better lyricist and more creative than Kendrick...smh...only on the internet...and in Canada. I actually dig Drake's music but as much as you continue to counter otherwise, there is no way you would be riding for Drake this hard if he wasn't from your city. And we're just going to have to agree to disagree on that because nothing you say will convince anyone on here differently. And what are all these jaw-dropping Drake verses that you speak of? I listen to dude's music. He's got some slick lines here and there but nothing to make me say he's bodying the game as a lyricist.
kills me when dudes say shit like this, like people on the internet dont actually exist or something
it's basic short-hand for 'i have the same shitty 3 friends that i grew up with and they all have the same shitty opinions as me, so anything diverging from that ain't real'

I really can't get into Kendrick Lamar. I've tried to listen to his album several times on planes and fell asleep everytime. I guess I just don't like being whispered to in triple time.
That said he sounds a lot cooler when he raps aggressive like on the Bitch Don't Kill my Vibe remix and that Control verse.
The Control verse though is another one of those situations where someone just raps for a long time and everyone assumes it's an amazing verse a la Cappadonna on Winter Warz or Nicki Minaj on Monster. Truthfully if it wasn't for the fact that he called people out and said he was the King of New York it probably would have been completely forgettable. Like Drake said in that interview, can you remember the first line?

For me to get a hold of this beat
Go ahead claim it
I'm about to paint a picture
You niggas go ahead frame it
Since we gettin Seinfeld
On some Jerry and Elaine shit
I flow far from mediocre
And if we talking cards I will fold him with the poker
You and your whole crew are like a deck a 54
So it's obvious ya'll gone steady be rollin with some jokers
And me I'm rolling with some brokers
Like damn. can you niggas get any broker?
I got my new girl so content
Just save yourself the embarrassment, don't even approach her
Disguise your self, go buy a costume
I am making stock works, while you working stock rooms
(ughh) and I was praying I would drop June
But label reps applying pressure to make them pop tunes
So I keep it rocking for Pete's sakes
You fake gangsta rappers a cliché
And if you ain't talking dough when you meet Drake
I'll be in your face
Like no hablo ingles
Soon as you hear it you quote it
They try to be the one that I done left out the show with
But trust me I'm aware, and my cars right there
Is this interior enough for ya'll ulterior motives
Cause if you like it ya'll should stick with me
My money good, I ain't never had to flip a key
Alotta ice, alotta cream like Dickey Dee
Might cut the phone and disapear like Michie Mee
But I'mma try and have you on the trip with me
Slid in threw a Henri Bendel like it's slippery
And your ex man is a hater officially
Probably cause he know I'm exactly what you wish he be
Yeah that's the reason why he looking hard
Cause I've done snatched the chips ahoy out the cookie jar
He just mad cause his girls at the house
With her tongue sticking out
Like a Michael Jordan rookie card
Let me address this, pardon me while I fix
A couple subliminal lines caught me in the mix
I guess he thought he could of been Gotti in the flix
But at this point I'm just poking a body with a stick
Now a days rapping is a children's hobby
And girls keep telling me I'm still this snobby
I tell them myself who I am feeling probably
Just because I gotta buzz like a building lobby
It ain't a song that your ass finna skip
I tried to sell weed, give me cash for this zip
The way your girlfriend pumped me up in the car
Seem like she don't really need no gas for the trip
Millionaire shades, fade with the waves
I smirk at a nigga if he still rocking braids
That just let's me know that we ain't on the same page
And that goes out to every nigga except Trey
I'm outta here baby, they asked me about the past years and how does it phase me
I wouldn't take it back, naww not if they pay me
Mr. betcha that's expensive cause it's not a fugazi
Spittin a crock pot of bottemless gravy
The shit is so nasty, how is it tasty?
And you can probably find him walking out of a Macy's
Forget it girl, they just thinking how to replace me
Exit with a joke, leave these niggas some hope
You took that Ye beat and put that shit in a choke
Well I'm thinking I should leave out on this note
Nigga keep your two cents I ain't trynin leave you broke
Drake is the complete package as far as being a leader of the new school.
As I said, Drake is out-Jay-Z-ing Jay-Z at this point in time.

^^ verse is hella creative and confirms that Drake is a visionary and should definitely be considered up there with Rakim, G Rap, Em, Nas and Eli Porter
except Jay-Z's part where he ACTUALLY does the schmuck sound on record and pops his lips like the sound effect of hitting a clown over the head with a sock full of rubber duckies or something
"i call it clown cake... *pop* "
Drake musta been like "oh, I'm keeping ALL of this Jay-Z shit for my record, yo! Listen to him say "cake cake cake" and just TRY to take him seriously, haha... Jay-Z's contribution is the weakest part of my album!!! WE USING IT ALL"
