kitty pryde (i think the person pellion's talking about. CH is right that she did rap before it's existence, but only some only for fun/notes tumblr type shit and obv wouldn't have gotten any type of success if it wasn't for people telling her what to do and walker becoming her manager)
young lean (another contender, but he's not touring)
yams
suicideyear (producer)
antwon
ryan hemsworth
various main attrakionz producers
a few other rappers i can't remember off the top of my head
noisey bloggers

it's ran by a wannabe yams guy who gained a lotta tumblr followers from making countless lil b gifs in 2010/11 named wavriel. he runs a tumblr called "smackdahoe"

this FB group is called The Wavery and it started off as an innocuous thing made to share and discuss music but then obtained a sort of an agenda when the owner decided he wanted to be friends with rappers and manage them, and would kick everyone out wasn't a musician or blogger (or at least anyone who bad talked his shitty cloud rap producer friends). i wouldn't call it an illuminati type-deal (i doubt most of them are aware of what they are actually apart of) but the group does have a bit of pull on what gets popular on tumblr and probably lesser blog rap sites like noisey. a good example of how it works is when yung gleesh was pushed heavily on tumblr and tweeted about as some lil b influenced street rap thing until it caught the attention of one of the bigger sites that covers rap (david drake on Fader iirc).

oh and that steadybloggin guy has nothing to do with that group lol
Anon doesn't seem to fully know what they're talking about. For example, Young Lean isn't even in the group and never has been. Kitty has not been in the group for awhile and I think she got kicked out when she started doing interviews where she talked about and alluded to its existence. Also the description of the group leader is way off base and just reads like someone with a personal grudge. My opinion is the group has gotten away from the creator's original vision and has been hijacked by people with more devious intentions and delusions of grandeur. For example now that the bloggers have realized the full scope of their power some seem to be starting their own careers as rappers and producers under different names and are actually succeeding at it.

I did notice a change in the group's tone and apparent agenda the second all of the Noisey writers jumped in, and it hasn't been the same ever since. The group is dead and no one posts now which probably has to do with Pellion's interview and the Internet finding out about it. I assume they went deeper underground and made an even more secret group that I was not included in and where their ongoings can not be tracked. I also have suspicions I was not included in their new, more underground group because I was starting to speak negatively of the direction the group was heading in and wasn't blindly co-signing every shallow act they rallied around. These acts include sad/gimmicky tumblr rappers, post-based/Clams cloud producers, whatever no-personality, Rocky-clone artist Yamborghini Records is pushing at the moment, and the never ending list of up and coming rappers from DC or Chiraq who only rap about guns and lean.

So what actually is their agenda? Me and drizzle were sort of debating it earlier and I thought they actually had more artists on their label (Vice Recordings) than they did, but have always thought their coverage of music (not necessarily hip hop) was governed by whoever was doing a show in Shoreditch that they needed to fill. Is it purely a financial thing?

here's an interview from january btw

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/interview ... -her-music
DX: Can you walk me through first meeting Beautiful Lou? I heard that he had reached out to you online?

Kitty Pryde: On Tumblr, I would get into conversations about Hip Hop a lot. I would look for other Hip Hop bloggers and made friends with a bunch of them. We were all friends on Facebook, and one of them made a Facebook group where everyone would just go and talk about Hip Hop stuff. Every time someone would be Facebook friends with someone who was part of the music industry–A$AP Yams was a part of the group and other people like that–[they would get added to the group]. Someone added Lou because he produced for Lil B and A$AP Rocky. Everybody thought he did such a great job. We all kind of idolized him.

I would always post my songs in [the group] because they were kind of a joke. Everybody would just make fun of them. One day, I posted [“Justin Bieber”]. Beautiful Lou listened to it and sent me a message on Facebook. He was like, “Hey, I just heard your Justin Bieber song. You’re the future. I’m gonna send you some beats.” I was like, “Okay...I don’t know why you like this, but I’m very flattered.” I was really excited about it.

I just sat down and made “Okay Cupid” in my car when I was in traffic. I didn’t expect it to be a thing at all. I didn’t think anyone was even gonna listen to it, but it turned out cool. I just really liked his beat. It was really pretty, and I thought, “This is something I want to use before anybody else.” After that one, he sent me more, and then when Riff Raff had asked if I wanted to do a song, I said “Sure, here are some beats, pick one.” They were all Beautiful Lou beats, and [“Orion’s Belt” was] the one that he liked the most.

TBH I was skeptical it would be Kitty Pryde initially due to the 'had been written for' part. What's the point of having a ghostwriter when your lyrics are that terrible anyway?

Don't trust a word that comes out of Walkmaster Flex's fingers.

That lying sack of shit was secretly managing a group he hyped up on Tumblr for months until somebody blew his spot.

Kind of a side note but shit like this is why I don't get mad at folks buying followers, views, and etc (I know that's an unpopular opinion, peep game though). Doors to get noticed get closed quickly because of actions like this. So you can't blame folks for going that route when you're up against shit like this and you may not be able to afford the right kind of PR or even have the right connects to obtain them. Like the competition should be with other artists not the PR groups online/offline, the politics within the game, and the artists. Because if they're already being biased on artists behind closed doors already that they set up, a very low percentage of folks they don't know will be able to get the same fair amount of recognition. And even then, that low percentage probably got recognition thru some other politics aside from talent or lack of talent.

This is all pretty funny to me. The whole "Tumblrinati/bloginati" (or whatever we're calling it) thing was more or less inevitable; just another example of someone relatively industrious capitalizing on a platform in order to push a rapper. What's really crazy is the type of group think that is perpetuated in a situation like this. I've never listened to any of her songs, thus I have no investment in Kitty Pryde one way or another; but if the consensus here is that she's wack, I'm inclined to believe it. With that being said, the willingness of folks to be spoon-fed garbage and then find obtuse ways to rationalize eating said garbage is amazing. If you like wack music, that's fine. You're allowed to like wack music. Shit man, I was bumping the new Ace Hood album on my iPhone this morning. But if you have to use rationalize liking shitty music by using any defense other than "Well, I just like it" then you are fooling yourself.

Don't get me wrong; the use of blogs and Tumblrs as a platform to showcase music has put me up onto a lot of dope shit that I might not have been exposed to otherwise, e.g. dudes that got regional love before the blogosphere like Freddie Gibbs, Danny Brown, Pill, Nipsey Hussle, et al. Using the internet to bolster your tastes is all good, and these days inevitable...but if you let said convergence of tubes dictate your taste, then you're an idiot.
