he said "Navi-fluffing." LMFAOOoo.

awww shucks you guys. the good times don't stop around here, they do not.

"Occultist." I try to keep the :grap: to a minimum. You must smell it in the essence of my chakra alignment.

your want for NYC rap to be "back on top" is cool and all, but your short sighted notion that all NYC rap has to sound exactly as it did a decade ago is regressive...
I can say what I want. So can you.

I never said it needed to sound like a decade ago.

All it needs is more people that want to LEAD instead of FOLLOW.

seriously, I'll ask again: list me five, ten, twenty MCs in 2012, that are making the future, doing something different, refreshing, dope, creative, or just staying true to themselves, that are from NYC.

people like ASAP Rocky shouldn't sound so mediocre. I'm not some nostalgic old fart that hates all new shit. I am a alien from the future transmitted into an 80's golden era b-boy body. I heard ASAP Rocky's crew on Hot 97, with Funkmaster Flex, freestyling over all these classic 90's and 2000 era NYC beats... and they sounded WEAK, if not WACK. I said to myself "I could just listen to old Dipset and be happier. I know Flex knows these guys are not as good as the internet hype says the are."

are there any more NEW MCs like KA coming from NYC?

please list them. I'm all ears.

Sick, hadn't heard this one yet. He's also featured on "Strive," the latest EP from fellow Hempstead rappers Tha Connection. Leaked today, drops via iTunes tomorrow... youknowcheckitout
:ohsh: nigga what?? Their styles were always hella similar. Glad to hear a collabo happened! I need to get my hands on this shit.

so so  (no Dupri)

upon third thought, I must say even Mindbender and SBU would both not come up with an album title so... Anticon-like? :limpy:

looks interesting, but also, still:

my album titles are pretty down to earth, compared to some other cats.

"In Space, No One Can Hear You Rhyme" is still a hella slept on album.

^^ the leak of the ep is all over the net, but it's pretty much 3 similar versions of the same song + 2 other connection songs that are decent but not really great

Shucks, I figured this didn't have to be said, but that's a compilation that one of my tracks appeared on. It was put together by a label called Tres Catorce (314), which is based out of Spain. They mostly put out electronic music but they heard my stuff and wanted to release some and I gladly obliged because very few Americans have shown genuine interest in my music ( I see your anticon remark and raise you approximately 1,500 European IDM fans). Anyway, I had nothing to do with the cover or title selection, but they're cool dudes so whatever...

Kind of ashamed to say I'd never heard of these dudes before this despite the fact that they're from here... shows how involved I am in local hip-hop... but I'm definitely checking for them now.

That's just dudes acitvely repping NYC/LI. If you want to get into from NYC, as in dudes who hail from or came up in the area but now live elsewhere, we can add MarQ Spekt, Aesop Rock and plenty others.

The magazine could give you a better list.

they are witty and clever and dope a lot... but i just can't take them seriously enough to listen consistently.

when I hear some super dope lyric next to some ridonkulously wonky lyric, I go :wtf:

but yeah, I check for them from time to time.

word word. thanks. I am already down with half those guys. Masai Bey, Marq Spekt is maaad dope, Aesop Riggety of course, Billy Woods, of course da god el-p (duhhh, i listen to him religiously), and Nas as you know is my rap life coach (LOL yeah you can blame him now)

but as much as you guys may think I'm hating on NYC, I'm not.
I love ALL my NYC rap heroes that are trying to keep the boom bap feel alive, and bring it into this era. I love all the 90's cats carrying on tradition. THAT'S the part that is not happening much from the new kids: carrying on tradition.

All my shit references all my rap heroes, from Hiero to Def Jux to Quannum to Hit Squad to Bomb Squad to Project Blowed to the Ruthless Records family tree and so many more. Some people these days just make hip hop like they never heard anything older than 3 years ago... and their music severely lacks, because of it.

All the names on that list that you didn't repeat are young cats who are "carrying on the tradition" while innovating in their own right.

Yes, many young rappers (here and elsewhere) are making the same music over and over, but we don't even talk about them on this forum that much -- at least I dont -- so I don't see how you're going off talking about the downfall of NY hip-hop and what not.

I mean look, if you're expecting to get good music from artists on Hot 97 and MTV then that's one thing, but I don't think you're that stupid, so the only conclusion I can draw is that you're not paying as close attention to NY hip-hop as you did 10-15 years ago. That's fine, but don't talk like the scene here is dying... because it's not like the city is in a creative drought. Far from it in fact.

fair enough. I will say I'm not paying as much attention. But not for lack of trying.

It's like a fire that used to be nice and warm, but now feels like ice.
8 times out of 10 I go to hear some new rapper, I am LET DOWN.

I never said it's dying. I hate that idea that hip hop can "die". It mutates.

I said it's not dominating. NYC rap is not LEADING hip hop culture is what I'm saying is the problem.
