So I never had HBO on TV, and slept on The Wire until I found that shit online in 2010.. I really liked The Wire. So I thought maybe I should check out some other shows from HBO.
How is OZ?
I read it has a lot of actors from The Wire in it. I've only seen the first episode, but am kind of at this point.
I like stuff dealing with the gang violence, prison shanks, and imaginative ways to hide drugs.. but be honest, if I watch this show, am I just in for a whole shit load of prison rape scenes? cause I could think of better ways to spend my time.
"Oz" is literally one of the worstbest shows ever. Tons of hardcore rape, murder, drug use, organized crime, fights, politics, race wars, etc. You'll never be disappointed.
The series finale is a piece of shit and the seasons are short, but there is enough rape to last you a lifetime.

As it goes along it gets more and more retarded/entertaining.
At one point, they house a bunch of non-criminal refugee's in the jail cause, you know, there was nowhere else to put them but a brutal jail with glass doors.
There are some great characters on it though.

d/led the first season a few months ago, wasn't really into the first two eps so am throwing it on the backburner for awhile

Great show. You definitely need a strong stomach to watch some of it and its completely ridiculous but very entertaining if only to see the all the fucked up ways they come up with the fuck with and kill each other.
Great cast (JK Simmons, Ernie Hudson, Luis Guzman, Edie Falco, JD Williams) and Vern Schillinger, Adebisi, Chris Keller, Miguel Alvarez, Ryan O'Reilly...all some of most memorable tv characters ever.

the real strength of the show was taking good character actors and letting them run wild with ludicrous characters put in a ludicrous settings
you guys need to stop judging long term continuous narrative shows by the first couple of episodes. it's not that different from judging a book by its first 3 pages
I liked the first 4 seasons of the show but it got way too stupid.
First 3 seasons are pretty entertaining though.
It's worth watching just to lol at Adebisi's hat.
An entertaining show that is not very good. The best part of it was the way they paced the thing, which was lightening quick and never made you wait for whatever was about to happen.
Anybody who finds any meaning or depth in the show is probably a horrible person. It's closer to True Blood than The Wire by a long shot.
Every season gets worse and less believable. I really liked the first 2 seasons but I gave up sometime in season 3 or 4 and stopped watching. I think that there's a lot of meaning and depth in the first couple seasons. Meaning as in- "This is the type of crazy shit that happens in prison, believe it or not". The creator did extensive interviews and research in prisons for at least a couple years, so while it may be sensationalized, most of the material from the first couple seasons comes out of true accounts of guards and inmates.
The more the show goes on, it just because a vehicle for these out of control, over sensationalized characters.
the series finale was seriously one of the most gigantic pieces of shit ever though. More the very last five minutes than the rest of the episode but still, what a horrible way to end the show.
at this point. 
cause I could think of better ways to spend my time.
