Word.
The conversation between Merle and T-Dog was laughable. That dude would even think to free that redneck is unthinkable.
I know it's fake, but T-Dog recovered from that ass whooping rather quickly.

^^^^yeah, sure, that makes sense for a movie, but you can't make a zombie tv show that's actually consistently about zombies. if all the (living) characters suck and their dialog is horrible the show will quickly suck.
don't get me wrong, it's been good so far, but we've already had more than a movie's worth of story time. this episode was entertaining and moved really quickly, but they can't spend 35 of 40 minutes under siege every week.

That movie was the ghey, but actually I like how some zombies have better smell / logic / speed than others so far.wheels wrote:I don't see why not.
I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but I'm glad to see that the zombies are slow and dumb as shit. Fuck fast zombies. I thought I Am Legend was a cool concept until it was revealed that every reanimated corpse in post apocalyptic was Usain Bolt.

At some point its unavoidable not to have at least a few stereotypes. Racist guy might be cliche but this is set in the south and Michael Rooker killed that shit. I think the acting in the show overall has been pretty good. I'm not sold on Jon Bernthal yet but Andrew Lincoln, the black guy from the first episode have been exceptional and Laurie Holden (the blonde from episode 2) can act her ass off when she needs too.Blockhead wrote:It's still very entertaining and I'm into it but LOL at "T-dog" in his "Brooklyn shirt and "racist guy". that said, I'm digging how tense it gets at times and the effects have been awesome.
Wallet scene dialogue was terrible but the gore more than made up for it. Solid second episode. Sad we're already 1/3 of the way through the first season.

yep.eternalreflection wrote:writing/acting is meh, that line about telling his kids about the corpse they chopped up was even more vomit inducing than the scene
still looks great and will stick with it
was hoping that of all the new characters introduced in ep2, only glenn would survive. have already seen enough of the rest of them

dude, the black guys name was T-dog. how fucking lazy is that? They could have named him a million other things but they went with T-dog. It's not a big deal, in the larger scheme of things, but that shit was just mad corny to me. It's the type of thing that could speak volumes about what 's gonna come later. Luckily, it's a zombie thing, so how bad could it be?Tommy Bunz wrote: At some point its unavoidable not to have at least a few stereotypes.
Fuckin' T-dog though...

For whatever it's worth, a lot of the dialog in the comic is ridiculous, too. There's a lot of subtle character development nullified by nine-panel speeches where someone drives home the very points already made throughout the narrative. The point of the book is to show man's inhumanity to man (heh), not really how we'd all pull together in a zombie crisis. So with that in mind, the racist stereotypes make some sense, though it was still pretty heavy-handed. Would have been better if they developed the redneck character a little more and then had him flip on some racist shit in episode three.

b/c serialized dramatic television doesn't work without an engaging plot or character development, unless there are examples I'm not thinking of.wheels wrote:I don't see why not.
All of the good serialized genre shows only stay good as long as these things are humming along (see Lost, Dexter, Twin Peaks, etc.). Shitty characters, dialog, and plot development can be excused in genre movies because they only need to hold your attention for two hours. The storytelling can be somewhat tangential as long as there are good action sequences, suspense, scares, etc. In example, imagine if Avatar was a 23 episode TV show? That's just one network season. Nobody would put up with it.
Not saying I'm going to stop watching The Walking Dead, that it's doomed, or that these first two eps haven't been entertaining, I just don't think they've been entertaining in a sustainable way.
Just as the easiest example: If you don't know anything about the comics or what's going to happen, after two episodes, do you even remotely give a shit if Rick Grimes finds his wife and kid or not? Can you tell me a single particularly interesting or noteworthy thing about the character of Rick Grimes? Has he had a good piece of dialog? Is Andrew Lincoln the right person to be playing this part? For serialized television, those things matter, and they matter more and more with each passing episode and each passing season.
Rocker will be back when T-dizzle was coming back to let him out he kicked over the tool bag that had the hacksaw in it. Also with him being on the roof the whole helicopter thing could come back into play for getting him outta there. I don't think you introduce someone like rooker into a cast of nobodies and just kill him off that quickly. This isn't executive decision.Tommy Bunz wrote:At some point its unavoidable not to have at least a few stereotypes. The show is good not great thusfar.
The iffy acting is troubling given how important character development is to the source material. These are just the character introductions during a crazy time, it should get better as things move along.
Don't worry about a siege every week either, they move around quite a bit in the comic. The further from the beginning of the outbreak the crazier shit gets, so there's potentially lots to look forward to.
I still have lots of faith.
