speaking of Atheist, I'm stupendously psyched for the new album, Jupiter. I think it's supposed to drop in early november.

Holy shit, have any of you guys heard Kvelertak?
Just discovered them last night. Guess their S/T debut dropped a few months ago. Quite possibly my favorite album this year.
Energetic, fun (yes, fun), punky and blackened with a liberal dose of swaggering cock rock thrown in. Awesome riffs and leads. Dudes are from Norway and they sing in Norwegian, but it doesn't matter. Just a really awesome album.
Pretty sure everyone here will really dig it.

thumbs up for the Kvelertak been bumping it a lot. like, MT said, really fun.
new Enslaved is killer also, but I think they are headed a little too much into Opeth territory. I like their psychedelic viking vibe better.
New Blind Guardian is an excellent return to form, has a couple bangers that could be right off the Nightfall album and several that are as epic as anything on ANATO.
Imaginations... will also be my fav BG album though.

I stumbled upon this great traditional doom band from Little Rock.
If you like Pentagram and Warning this should be right up your alley.
they do a killer Gloomy Sunday cover on the demo.
They are recording their debut album now, all on analog tape.

This shit's for the homie catfish. We tore new orleans the fuck down last night. Too bad MT#1 missed out but I had a fucking blast.
Teen Cthulhu was one of my favorite bands out of Seattle and a bunch of them were the homies back when I used to play and was way more in to the scene. Here's pretty much everything I can find of theirs at the moment. I highly recommend this shit.

In the past couple years Hatred Surge has become my absolute favorite band. My teenage years were spent digging high and low for the most extreme sounding bands i could punish my face off with. I was lucky enough to discover Grindcore early on via Napalm Death and Brutal Truth. As much as I like Demons and Satanic Locust Wizards I came from a hardcore punk background. Grindcore was what i was searching out the whole time (along with the crustiest sluge bands like Eyehategod and Dystopia). A subgenre of Grindcore (gotta love sub - sub genres) i grasped early on was Power Violence. Bands like Despise You, Spazz, and M.I.T.B. I could go on forever about my favorite little niche but in order to spare myself the typing and tie this post together, Im just saying that Hatred Surge are the best band doing Power Violence at the moment. They sound like Despise You channeling early Kylesa with sheer brutality spazzing out along side a certain catchy element. They write memorable bursts of awesome shit. Alex Hughes (also of Iron Age and Mammoth Grinder) is the primary songwriter and responsible for the gruff vocals and brilliant distorted bass tone. Faiza is one of the hottest women in metal (shes now out of the band) and delivers vocals in a tone reminiscent of Laura from Kylesa. The bands name was borrowed from an old Napalm Death demo and they are based in Austin Texas. Arguably the best PV band of the current crop/resurgence and in my opinion smashes a great deal of the O.G. PV bands. If anyone is curious Id suggest starting with a quick listen to DECONSTRUCT and the Self Titled then the splits. I went and saw HS this past saturday night on Odiums Slam Pig tour. Flawless.

Slow Ride The Lightning

One of your favorite albums slowed to 33rpm and ripped,
creating something that sounds like
the most monstrous crust band of all time.
A new way to listen to an old classic.

PLEDGE

PLEDGE

have you guys peeped the kylesa?
something about the singing really bothers me, like it was good in small amounts on the last album, but here it feels awkward and I'm like waiting for them to rock the fuck out and start yelling and it never happens.
I understand it's a natural progression like Mastodon into a more melodic place, but it doesn't really work for me, idk.
I'll keep spinning it, but the tunes just aren't hitting me with the urgency that Static had.

Im having the same reaction. Something about the new album just isnt sticking to my ribs. not saying its not well crafted and listenable but most of the elements that I originally fell in love with seem absent. I miss the crustier elements from "To Walk A Middle Course". I wish they would just kick into full raging asskick mode a little more and ease up on the noodling romance.
