When did hipsters grow beards and like Sleep? First time I saw em, it was with like 50 other people and you got a beer in ten seconds. Plus side though was the fact there were women at this albeit on a hipster tip.

^i think you got it wrong. hipsters today are different from hipsters of yesteryear in that as strong as their education background is they aren't particularly smart. thus, they don't know who kafka is, let alone what "kafkan" is all about. your insult needs more synth.

anyway, good week for new metal shit.

Love the new Torche EP, though I feel like it's 5 minutes long, but lots of awesome rocking shit, one of my favorite bands today.

Also new Enslaved is awesome, continuing on their path of getting more and more progressive. Very Opethian in some instances.

And the homie Cloudkicker just put out another brilliant album for free download. He can do no wrong.

listening to this lately and thinking back to when i was in middle school. There wasnt much else to do then besides lurk in ditches down by the railroad with a bottle of malt liquor and think about what hell looked like.

Baroness covering the Descendents. Nothing mind blowing but i guess you would expect them to Baroness' it up a little. Its really straightforward.

I haven't been paying much attention to metal for a looooong ass time and I'm looking for some suggestions. I've got a bunch of flights coming up and I'd like to spend them getting yelled at by metal dudes. I've been really feeling a lot of sludgy shit like Dark Castle, and Rwake and of course Eyehategod and would like other shit in that vein. I've been feeling the newer Baroness and I've always been a big fan of Isis, Mastodon and Old Man Gloom. Also been digging the Outlaw Order shit that catfish upped a while back. Bison BC, Black Tusk. Akimbo. where should I go from here, guys? just wanted to say one more time I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY feeling that Dark Castle album Spirited Migration. Do they have anything else out?

The only other thing Dark Castle put out was their original demo and most of the tracks on that like Growing Slowly ended up on Spirited Migration.

If your digging the sludge I would recommend you check out Weekend Nachos - Unforgivable. Its punishing and completely negative. If you like Rwake check out a couple of my other friends in Arkansas bands like Deadbird and Seahag. I know your already up on Black Breath so I would check out Trap Them, Early Graves, and Iron Age. Bastard Noise - A Culture Of Monsters has been one of my favorite releases this year. They sound like no one else and are extremely brutal yet catchy.

couple other bands that have been assaulting my ears
The Endless Blockade
Hatred Surge
The Abominable Iron Sloth
Despise You
Wolvhammer
High On Fire

Its kinda early so im sure Ive left some things out but the rest of the guys im sure have some suggestions well worth investigating.

The John Joseph Cro-Mags. Have seen them twice and they're pretty good. Cool to hear those songs played live and the fact that John's singing helps.

Not the same as the AOQ lineup, but that hasn't existed for 20 years, so you make due.

Speaking of Death Angel, their new album Relentless Retribution is really good. Did we discuss this already? Just dropped officially a couple days ago but leaked a while back.

Lots of good, classic DA thrash, but in keeping with their history of throwing other shit in the mix, also incorporates some elements of crossover/HC, NWOBHM/power metal and even some non-ghey metalcore in a way that really works.

I thought it was a little too metalcore when I spun it.

I've gone back to, and started to love the last Revocation album a lot.

Existence is Futile is the name, and it's really great modern thrash. the production was too sterile for me first, but I got used to it.

If people want a great new band playing complex thrash/death in the vein of Atheist of Pestilence but with a modern spin, not some hokey retro band, this is the album to check out. The songs are quite memorable for being this complex and of course the playing is great, finally a really good young lead player too who can actually write a solo and not just fly through scales.

Yeah, the dude from Revocation is a really sick guitar player and is really ill to watch live.

Agree that they're the blueprint for how to be a young band playing thrash in 2010 without being a retro act.

That said, I didn't really get into the songs and vocals on EIF, but it's probably worth going back for another listen.

Could you possibly up that album? I'm quite curious after hearing you guys praise.

the album before it was a lot easier to get into, maybe that's why I was disappointed with the new one at first. Empire of the Obscene I think it's called.

But yeah, I listened to EiF for a while when it came out, wasn't digging it and put it aside. Just got into it again a couple weeks ago.
