best/worst live band

Post by uxpsi »

This may sound stupid but I want to make it clear that I want this thread to be about bands you love to see perform not bands that you love to listen to.

My favorite band to see live is: The World Inferno Friendship Society. A cult following of gypsy punk kids and a mixed audience of the annoying old guy trying to take pictures in a moshpit and other characters.

one of the best ive seen live is wolfmother. their bass player/organist was a fucking asshole to his instruments and i felt excited watching it the entire time

also great live is radiohead, as the fish eye lens on thom's face at the keys is fucking creepy and greenwood and co throw the fuck down every time ive seen them

also great, because of crowd participation was pearl jam (seen them 4 times)

roger waters puts on a hell of a show but is an asshole

some really really really bad shows include OAR, 311, wu-tang and yeah, wu-tang was fucking horrible and i paid to see them a second time which was worse than the first

wu tang shows (in the last few years) depend wholly on who is orchestrating the thing and who is present from the clan

when rza is there and into it (like on the majority of the tour that happened around the time odb died), they're great. there's ninjas on stage, they do mostly crowd faves from both group and solo albums, there's good energy, etc. when rza is not into it or isn't part of it, the group shows are usually a clusterfuck

ghostface as main attraction with guest features from others is usually a good bet.

method man being there (redman too occasionally) helps a lot

raekwon and gza solo shows are the worst. of the several times i've seen rae, i have yet to see him finish a full song. mostly he does verses that he raps not over the instrumentals but over the actual songs. he is also the worst offender as far as bringing 45 people on stage. gza just mumbles and doesn't look up.

best show I've seen was Sigur Ros in 2003. seriously had a boner for like two hours. Amazing sound, and it was great that it was radio city I believe, and we were seated so I could take it all in.

On the metal front, Meshuggah generally own, but I can understand people who aren't into their style getting bored after 20 minutes.

I haven't seen many rap shows because they generally suck so I avoid them, but The Perceptionists put on an amazing show.

The worst show ever was when I saw Black Sabbath in 2005. They are my favorite band ever and they sounded so shit that I left after 3 songs. Ozzy was reading lyrics from the teleprompter and singing terrible over prerecorded vocals.

The good thing was that I was at a festival and left to see the Dreseden Dolls who 20 minutes later would absolutely floor me with a cover of "War Pigs."

At the same festival another terrible terrible show was Velvet Revolver, that was almost unbearable, and the best I've seen of those huge stadium bands was easily the Foo Fighters.

this is gonna sound odd as shit, but one of the best shows i've ever seen was a jazz tribute to frank sinatra in blue note, as performed by a bunch of 80 year old musicians and a old fat black lady on the vocals. not kidding in the slightest. i've never seen anybody on stage be so into what they're doing and do it so fucking well. it was kinda mindblowing

The first Ozfest with the reformed Sabbath was pretty fucking amazing. Slayer has killed it every time I have seen 'em, as has Municipal Waste. The last Pixies show made up for the shitty show I saw back in 1992.

Worst band I ever saw live was Jawbreaker. The drummer barely hit the drums, the bass was too loud and guitar too soft. This happened all 3 times I saw em too.

Oh and Del is pretty gawdawful live.

best live show i've been to was probably Los Amigos Invisibles

incredibly energetic and tight performance, danceable and chill...very much like ive always said, a Venezuelan Jamiroquai....

and u have the huge added bonus of lots of fly ass single latinas being in attendance as well...

Jadakiss is easily the worst professional performer I ever seen live. Brings tons of people on stage and is just uninspired.

ILL BILL is fucking awful and raps in a strange way where his voice gets really high like he's doing bad theater. He does hold the crowd in the palm of his hand though.

I haven't seen much rap shows but I think Poison Pen is the best person I've seen live with the 2nd being Doug E Fresh.

Yeah, I know blasphemy.

I go to way too many Metal shows and get excited about something or another at all of them.
some to definitely check out live are
Torche
Baroness
High On Fire
Goatwhore
Eyehategod

I saw Motorhead back in 2002 and they were SO awesome and the loudest band Ive ever seen.

hip hop shows always suck but I saw the Roots live at House Of Blues a couple years ago and they brought out the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and it was the best rap show Ive seen.

Oh yeah kids, Floor is getting back together for 3 shows in April. They are in FL and ATL, but well worth it. Seeing them in my living room with a smoke machine, a skinhead girl beating the shit out of a midget, and a an old dude moshin with a cane might be the best show I ever saw.

Radiohead
Judas Priest

and i was tired as hell on Roskilde Sunday, but
reunited At The Gates raped shit, not to mention they were incredibly freggin LOUD

oh, and i thoroughly enjoyed Pharoahe Monch. Dude killed it.

I've yet to see fuckin Maiden and Meshuggah. Goddamnit.

:icedit: I forgot Opeth. Small venue. Great sound. Awesome fuckin band.

With all this metal talk, I can't believe no one said Dillinger Escape Plan??? One of the best, most-energetic and suicidal show I've been to, in a long, time...

Really Modest Mouse sucks live? That makes me sad. I saw a Canadian band in Korea try to play a Modest Mouse song and try to pass it off as their own. My boy called them out on it hard and they got embarassed and said "um....not all our songs are covers."

Not a fan of Dillenger Escape Plan but their stuff with Mike Patton was excelllent. Also, the historical story behind that band name is great.

honestly man. I had high expectations, they're one of my favorite bands. They were out of key, out of tune and sloppy. i dont know if this was as a fluke, or an everytime thing, but I've heard many similar stories.

Seen them twice. Most excellent! Got kicked out of the second show for throwing an empty beercan into the pit (protocol). Pulled the old "OH SHIT A FIGHT" bouncer broke right, I broke left. took them til the end of the show to find me.
