MB, if I ever go to Canada I'm volunteering to be your sidekick for a show or something. This is a serious thought that just occured to me. I have a golden shirt of my own, and I can do my thing in the background. Maybe do some adlibs to your raps. And also there's a hunchback pose that I've mastered. Trust me it would be great.

in 30 years of rap, nobody has ever said what I said in 'FAIL'.Reason wrote:god even your lyrics are a snoozefest
what i love most about it, is that it is still relevant, and will continue to be relevant, for quite some time. also, it ignites a lot of pro- and con- opinions. if you are one of the only who are neutral about it... that's cool. you hate most of my stuff anyways. i just am seeking my fanbase now. the rest of the world is fading to black to me, more and more as i get better at what i love to do.
the end of the first verse is one of my favorites:
"Canada: get some god damn self-respect/ and while you're at it, run and get me some cheesecake/ i'ma eat sweets til my cheeks are Puffy and my fucking teeth break/ I need your money like 'In God We Trust' and 'Jesus Loves Me', word up/ rhyme pays like corporate crime/ and I'm screaming bloody murdaaa/ but Uncle Sam was the first poster child...

song just comes off awkward, sorry it does sound better then what you have posted previously, but still needs a lot of work.

Conspiracy and I are truly an amazing example of contrast in creativity.maclethalcuntfucker wrote:Conspiracy, if you had to compare your ability to create music in comparison to Mindbender's how would you describe it?
Do you think you have a stronger sense of rhythm? Or does he?
Also, you clearly think your eat for beats is a little sharper?
Mindbender, do you think your ability to eloquently dissect concepts is what really pushes SBU forward? I know I've criticized your flow a bit, but the syllables and conceptualizingation are on point.
I ask because I am trying to get my brother to stop holding back with writing, but he seems to be afraid of being in my shadow. It's kinda funny, you guys are the first two I thought of after the convo we had.
He writes extremely fast and almost never takes out any lines. I write pretty slow and often overthink my shit, and it takes two weeks for me to finish some songs, while on the page, I will edit out like 30% of the verse before I get my final version. He's way more confident of a freestyler, and he's a monster of a battle rapper. I think I may memorize my verses better, and I don't care to battle at all. He isn't as much of a fast, tung-twista rapper, while I spit sharp streams of darts oftentimes. His voice is more powerful and his growl is more fierce than mine, but I am improving my ability to express myself in the other realm of the sound spectrum by singing and harmonizing. He has much stronger visual/verbal imagery than I do. His amazingly vivid imagination is his forte, while I think my abstract idea wordplay mosaics can be pretty stunning when executed best. He says words on record that I would never say, and his religious/philosophical beliefs are sometimes diametrically opposed to mine. But it's all good. We still rock the spot.
It's okay about your criticism, Mac. You have ALWAYS been relatively respectful and mature, which is more than can be said about most people on Phila. I'm a growing artist. My old shit wasn't nearly as rhythmic as this new stuff is. No two songs of mine really sound alike, if you are really listening close. "Pushing SBU forward" doesn't really happen cause we're not on a label, and most people in Canada are confused, afraid, or in stunned awe of the energy that we radiate in our life and in our music. I've seen people come to a full stop dead in their tracks on the sidewalk when they made visual contact with Conspiracy.
I don't know if I'd say one has a better sense of rhythm or better taste in beats. We both just have access to different producers, as we were living in different cities for the last 10 years. Until we did this album with Weez-L, Cadence Weapon's old DJ, we didn't work on a project together since like 1997. People here say I'm off beat, but I think I'm on beat, I just don't keep the rhythm between the ones very steady (:jazzing it up). Conspiracy doesn't stick to rhyming on the one very often in my ears, so to some, he might be more off beat than I am, but to others, I might be more off beat. Whatevs.
He has his strong points and weaknesses, and I have mine. They compliment each other. Steel sharpens steel. I hope that helped, Mac. Tell your brother to get his head clear, decide how far he wants to go in rap, and shit out those fears cause they will not help his dreams grow. If he REALLY wants to be an MC, he's just gotta do it. Warren G will never come close to what Dr. Dre has done, but does that mean he should stop making music? No.
I'd enjoy hearing a song with you and your brother, Mac. Boost his self-confidence and let him know he should come in the game if he wants it that bad. Fuck the familial stigma. If he's any good, people will drop the "he's Mac Lethal's brother" shit pretty quick. If Ray J was a great singer, nobody would care that he's Brandy's little brother. All he'll be remembered for is that he got a big meat and that he boned my wifey.
one love, man.
thanks brother. hey, I feel like it's not even egotistical to say there is NOT ONE EQUIVALENT on Planet Earth to Conspiracy and Mindbender of SBU, as a creative musical duo. Out of all 6 fucking billion people on earth, I ain't aware of anything even close to our Twin Hypeness.Conspiracy wrote:I like your rapping styles on this song and the structure is well written for a mature adult hiphop lyricist (mabye not for a young ADD fan, tho)
after all that fighting we did online, it makes me feel better to know, i'll be smoking victory spliffs and having vodka shots at the live SBU shows that we will be doing for the 2010 year and more later...
you watered the speed down a little bit and kept the word size the same.Literature size. so mindbender uses a brain....[and any guy with a name about any mental shit SHOULD BE AN EXAMPLE OF SMARTNESS]
i been a fan, but all I wanted from you are better BEATS that you rap on
if they all were llike 'Really'....je-hova
you , to me for a mix of wordplay are like el-p, aceyalone, nas, royce and 2 splashes of prevail and classified...
mindbender is going to give me a free ride to retirement
[joking!](it ain't mine if -I- don't earn it)
the SBU album is a god damn 13 movie soundtrack
HTM RULZ.I found a cartoon picture of Anu.............................................!
I say one thing: start thinking less about retirement and start thinking more about what you have to do between now and "then". And also realize: true blue musicians DO NOT RETIRE. They play until they leave the planet. BB King is still going strong. James Brown had a tour planned when he died. And there's this guy Michael Jackson...
Conspiracy, we have a lot of fun aka work aka service aka creation to do. Today. Not tomorrow. Every today. Put the music in front of EVERYTHING. We have to tour this new SBU album cause it IS a fucking masterpiece movie of an album. Nothing close to it in rap right now. The majors are dead, independent movements rule the world. Let's get our business together, find our fanbase, and completely fucking ignore any other waste of our increasingly-focused energy.
but yes... most importantly, there will be much to celebrate. we had to go through hell to create heaven. it's always darkest before the dawn.
Mike Eagle, you are wise. More wise than most of the people talking shit around here.step one wrote:Mindbender Futurama wrote:
this song is fun. one day after i made it, someone from this show requested me to show up to a party tonight and perform it
After my performance last night, I realized: to maximize the potential of the song 'PIMP', I'm going to make a concert-only 'Quickie Mix', 2 minutes and some seconds. Repeat the chorus a few times, and shorten the verses. I just want people enjoying it 100%, not 70%.
I also got the sweetest taste of the power of sex and music's intoxicating chemistry, as I was performing this at a Christmas party where lots of drunken women were more than receptive to all that I had to give. I performed my remake of Drake's 'Best I Ever Had', which went over well enough...
but when I got into 'PIMP', it was showtime ambrosia. I had a couple sexy girls dancing all up and down on me as I walked around the room with the cordless, I was rhyming into pussies, spanking asses, and cut out a line to place a juicy kiss on this cute little thing I wound up dirty dancing with later on in the night. I'm finally confident enough to take what I want from this shit, and I did it last night. Some people taped the debauchery on their camera phones, I'll share links if I get any.
Good party last night. I didn't wear my Matrix jacket, but I got a bit dressed up. I make it hard to forget seeing my concerts.
oh, I'm not afraid of a microphone or an audience, my friend. I been doing this shit for a minute and a half.Employee wrote:
It looks like you swiped that jacket right off the back of James Woods's character in "Casino."
At least you're comfortable on stage. That's more than you can say for 99% of rappers.
I'm more afraid of going all out with all of my insane ideas. But I'm not even afraid of that really anymore. I could streak naked, pop ecstacy, get a blowjob, or take psychotic suggestions from the audience and do it. Just no GG Allin pain infliction, I ain't slashing my nipple off or eating shit.
I'm ready.
How many times have I said that I'm not the same person on here that I am in real life? I don't think ANY of you are the same person on here as you are in reality. Grant me the same respect, if you can.KritiKal wrote:What I learned from this video:
-Mindbender acts humble?
-Mindbender actually feels like he hasn't done shit
-Dropping jewels and liking women are mutually exclusive
-Mindbender can't record music after shaving
-"Is this Jodeci?" @ 1:20
-I can actually understand the lyrics, despite the uncomfortable subject matter from a shiny canadian space rapper I actually liked the song
-Toronto is only 4 hours, if I happened to be there I would definetely see a Mindbender show
-Shocking, Mindbender is a Tiger Woods apologist
I haven't done anything in hip hop yet. Almost nothing. Compared to the size of my dreams? Absolutely nothing.
And I get people coming up to me after every show saying how much they enjoyed it. I may be part crazy, but I also know what I'm doing.
Apologist? LOL. not really, I just respect the duggan more cause he finally seems human. His old image was too perfect. But I realized I shoulda gave a shoutout to Elin too.
oh, Voss. he said "32" not "42", Mike was right. I realized that was the guy who said to me, after he saw me perform 'F.A.I.L.': "Brother, I saw you on stage and I could see the spirit of Russell Jones in you. "I wanna see blood!" Man, you got some ODB energy when you perform, it's great!"
million dollar compliment to my soul.
last, and certainly least: IDAL, I've performed quite a few times in America, and never got booed, bottled, or dissed. A certain childish weakling on this very message board saw me share the same stage with El-P, Atmosphere, Scienz of Life, Afu-Ra, Bigg Jus and MF DOOM, and nobody dissed me, including him. I also did great when I rocked Project Blowed, don't forget. But you can keep hating. I'll just keep creating.
Time to listen to the 'Jupiter' album. Shit's pretty fucking dope. Peace.
Mindbender loves you all
i agree with the shorter verses thing.
people who don't play by the rules just for the sake of not playing by the rules, lose.
push your boundaries (no yugo) by exploring what you can do when you color within the lines, my man.
not only will it hold attention spans (as previously stated), but it's harder than it seems to write shorter verses, cause you get less words to make your statements.
it's more challenging. and truthfully, you should challenge yourself, not your audience. adoption is serious.
that's why myspace is still full of emcees who rap too long to compensate for the fact that they don't know how to get their point across in under 20 bars. hellbound.
you could take that first verse and chop it into two, or even better, shave all of the filler out of song, and pick your favorite 32-40 bars, and make two verses out of it.
we don't really need 160 bars about why anyone likes pussy anyways.
it's self explanatory. keep the best lines and keep it moving.
seems weird to say, but the kool keith vibe kinda works for you.
explore that.
or not.

jopy.

Song started off promising first verse is pretty on point, I think it got a little strange/hectic around mid second verse. I'd like to see you actually get into character a little more, I'd rather feel like I'm listening to someone whose selling me women and yes i know the song isn't about you being a real PIMP but as Sean said that's essentially what I get from the Cool Kieth sex styles weirdo/womanizing persona. The guy actually seems like A. he'd sell me a woman or B. if he owed me 20 bucks would send one to my house to "instead".

i'm exploring, and growing. but I think I'm travelling paths of other MCs too... plus stuff that nobody's done. I've seen a lot of rappers over the years.sean wrote:i agree with the shorter verses thing.

but yes, you are seeing and hearing glimpses of the new Mindbender. each song is quite different on the new album though. I think you'll like "Marijuana Coma", seanzy. Everyone who hears it says 'that should be a single'.
your golden words are now deposited in the memory bank.
challenging myself is the new battle rap.
next big chune I do, I'm gonna write 8 bars of microphone BLAOWERY.
thank you very much for checking it out, Slug.
there's more where that came from.

I actually been spitting it over and over, thinking "meh, these middle-verse lines in verse 2 aren't THAT great... they're good, but meh."
Kool Keith? really? people keep saying that after seeing this clip. I've been compared to many MCs, but as honoring as that is, I rhyme nothing like him. That's based off pure visualizing the realism of life and actuality, eh?
rob1ne, I ain't putting in time here like i used to, period. someone be the new YOTMB. them thar's some pretty big space boots to fill tho, ha.
told you i'm falling back. i don't even understand all the slang around here no more.
what is adoption and jopy, famslice?
2010. Year Of The Mind Bender Supreme. 'Jupiter' is launching soon.
please create a Merry Christmas for yourself and your loved ones.
