New blog opportunity (not T.R.O.Y.)

Post by Philaflava »

I'm looking to do a current blog much like your 2Dopeboyz, illRoots or XclusivesZone. I would like to form a small team that'll run this blog along with my help. The blog will be Philaflava based but the writers will have full carte blanche. Ideally I want this blog to compete with those blogs mentioned above in time. It should be updated at least twice daily but what gets updated is at your discretion. The blog should focus on quality music and not feel like it has to mirror the other blogs or cover the latest Charles Hamilton mixtape.

If anyone is interested in being apart of this blog that feels they have good taste in music and can tackle the world of blogging please let me know.

Preferably hip-hop but definitely current. I'm not against shit about TV On The Radio but it should have a hip-hop vibe to the blog.

I would assume mixed media.

that was poorly worded actually, my bad. i meant mixed media as in covering music and movies and books of all kinds and genres

but i understand now what you're going for

i do stay up on this whole funk/soul revival thing, so if you want some of that i could contribute. not that there's enough of it to keep a steady stream of posts going, but semi regular additions are feasible

You know that we cover funk and soul at T.R.O.Y., and I've been wanting for people to contribute book and film reviews, right?

i wast talking more about new stuff in this particular case

however, all the old/reissue stuff posted in RR can be fair game to TROY. the albums Verge and I posted in the Numero thread for example, the jazz album that RS posted just a few days ago, all that could be turned into your 'evening edition post' with minimal effort.

I think you should change the title of the thread to "M2C Blog." That might generate more interest and discussion and lead somewhere productive.

Or perhaps not.

I'm very interested to see what could happen here. Sadly, I don't have the hookups nor Thun's superb English skillz to contribute, though.

I want the blog to run as a team effort just like we do with T.R.O.Y.

If there is somebody who only wants to cover books/movies than I'm down to have them bring that to the table and only that.

This is going to be one blog, not several individuals like SteadyBloggin.com (which by the way will be bye-bye soon).

First and foremost it's going to be a music blog. Current music and my goal is to have it become a respectable and established blog by July. It'll be the TROY blog of current music.

I don't want anyone doing this who is unsure. I also don't want to play Tony Robbins and have to motivate you. You do this because you want to. You will have a bigger outlet. You won't have all the pressure to post daily, that is what the team is for. The content on PF forums is owned by PF and can be used on the blog. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

I'll be helping setting up interviews, giveaways and submitted material for the blog too.

This would be my dream team.

4 - music writers
1 - movie/book writer
me

If you are seriously interested please email me jasongloss@philaflava.com

No part-time or guest spots. I'm only interested in those who want to do this daily. And just so you know these type of blogs do not require massive amounts of time. The average post on a blog probably takes 1 minute and that consists of 30 seconds of copying and pasting shit. That doesn't mean I don't want content. Obviously reviews should take time.

Let me clarify a few things and give some pointers here (no i have no intention of being involved in this blog whatsoever for those worried about it):

Unless you update a blog at least once per day, it is a failure. This is why a team blog makes so much sense on many levels. But you cannot build a team up from occasional contributors. It has to start with a dedicated team that works well together.

For this kind of blog, you do not have to write very much. Content (meaning music, video, and pictures) is king.

However, if you and your team are not repackaging this content in a way that is appealing and at least somewhat original, and without standing out from the rest of the blogosphere, you lose.

And you cannot be illiterate. There needs to be some amount of personality and/or purpose on display.

You are not destined to be a good blogger just because you are an everyday message boarder.

There are a few skill sets that overlap, though. If you are the creator of popular threads, and you are a voracious consumer and observer of online media content (meaning you know your way around Youtube, Last FM, etc and have incorporated their sharing and commenting mechanisms into your daily life, you are a better fit for blogging than say, someone who relies on PF to funnel them the info that they wouldn't normally have the knowhow to find on their own.

Hope that helps.

Gloss haven't you explicitly mocked these types of blogs in the past? I seem to recall something about them being irrelevant to people who know how to use message boards?

You must have missed this Andrew

The blog should focus on quality music and not feel like it has to mirror the other blogs or cover the latest Charles Hamilton mixtape.

I've expressed my interest in such things in the past. I'd definitely be down as long as I felt there were other quality individuals involved as well... Drizz, Blast, etc

I know you had a blog in the past and were doing similar stuff and I think you'd be a perfect fit but given your current situation do you really think you'd have the time for this? Both Drizzle and Blast have expressed interest and I think the three of you would be great together. Think it over.

I posted twice in this thread in the past half an hour. I thinks I could make time for it.

Drizzle, Blast, and B. Ware would be a great combination. That could work.

But please, if you guys bother, put a 200% effort into it.

Word. Phila, Blast, drizzle, B.Ware, + Magneto and you got the perfect squad for this.
But I think just with the addition of B.Ware they could roll well as is.
