Start with this :

"Roir Sessions" aka Self Titled

And, frankly, you might as well finish with that too since nothing else they did comes close to it.

And if you can't find the ROIR sessions, get Rock For Light or Black Dots. If you are feeling like an uber fan, perhaps I Against I (is that shit still in print, is SST still around?) Do not listen to Quickness or anything after. I am actually missing Bad Brains on a boat in the Hudson next week. Fucking sold out.

I have to respectfully disagree, brohim. Rock For Light is good in its own right although I've always disliked Ric Ocasek's production. If you are novice, skip it, and go straight for ROIR.

So what is the 2nd best Bad Brains album, you ask?

The title track is as good a hardcore song as they ever wrote and the other stuff is like this weird mixture of Van Halen, Prince, Zeppelin and...I can't even describe it. You need to hear it for yourself, but it is a fantastic album and essential if you like the Bad Brains.

Not the album to start with - JBL is correct, get ROIR first. I Against I is "music for advanced listeners" and should only be sought out when you are ready.

a) Yeah, SST is still around. Greg Ginn gives all the money to cats.

b) Dude, Bad Brains no longer exist. I know the Sad Brains still play shows with this homeless guy who sits on a stool and talks to a parrot in a cage (the same dude that used to do backflips on stage) and they call it the Bad Brains or Soul Brains or H.R.'s Enormous Drug Habit. But you're better off just buying the live DVD and staying home.

Yeah I got to hear a bunch of "HR is shithouse bats" with some people that are down with NYC hardcore. I once saw Daryl Jennifer on the PATH and was askin him about shit. He was pretty much "anything that pays bills, man".

Once you get their suggestions cop the DVD they put out from an 1982 performance. The new album produced from one of the Beastie Boys is pretty good. It's worth checking out.
