DAMN.

It's not even like it's a demo or half-assed either, It's a fuckin dope album. Diamond's beats and cuts are fuckin A-list already.

What's the backstory as to why this didn't see a release back in 89? Some of these could have been hits.

my god, Diamond D's production on this is out of this world. Rob is a pretty good MC as well.

I'd assume it wasnt released back in the day due to sample clearance issues (being that this is a heavily james brown sampled LP).

HMV near my work have a whole (highly inflated) reissues and imports section and I saw this in there the other day - haven't got round to copping it yet though. Looks like I will be now!

Okay so this album really isn't very good. Why were we excited about this again?

Really feelin' :

Tuf (So Damn)
Another Hit
C'mon
Oh Shit
I'm Not Playing
One Of The All Time Greats
+
The Strong City jackets they're both rockin'

Sorta feelin :

Girls
Supreme Diamond D

Don't give a shit about :

The rest of it.

Predictably, none of the unreleased tracks are as good as "I'm Not Playing" but there's still some nice shit on here. The one thing i would say, though, is that i was kinda hoping for this to be the missing link between "I'm Not Playing" and Diamond D tracks like "Outta Here" and "Check 1, 2" but it's just yer standard James Brown breaks for the most part.

I don't hate it per se, but a bunch of james brown breaks and shitty rapping? Why not listen to Funky Technician and get some good rapping out of the deal?

I have to agree with Thun here. It's a nice little piece of history, and makes one wonder what might have been, but it's not singularly spectacular. It definitely needs to be taken in context to be appreciated, which is a sign that the album is not timeless. But who knows? Had it dropped in 1990, maybe we'd all be arguing about Master Rob vs. Rakim today. (unlikely)

I'm not feeling the lyrics either, but I'd love to get my hands on those instrumentals (for free, that is :gyeah:)
