Shoot'em Up

Post by GM Dizzy Skillespie »

I might be going to a sneak preview of this tomorrow.. depends on whether i get invited or not..

but anyone kind of hyped for this?
Clive was dope in Sin City
Giamati is Giamati... I think he will tear it up as the villain.

guns, lots of them
action
and the title alone suggests it will be nonstop madness.

who's in?

OH yeah, I'm very excited to see this. Trailers have made it look fun as hell, and with the actors involved I gotta think it will be decent.

Hyped for this and Eastern Promises.

don't know about any sneak list.
my friend just happened to have an extra ticket.

OK, did you hate Die Hard?
Do you miss blood, violence and humor
Do you miss the Arnold one liners after he kills the fuck out of someone?
Just those hilarious things that were relevant to how the guy died...

well this movie is for you.
It is only 87minutes.
and pretty much the entire time it was either hilarious or fucking badass.. but sometimes so over the top in its action/violence that it was hilarious, although everyone in the theatre seemed to understand that and laughed a long.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

For those that want a little more detail:
Clive is running around killing motherfuckers with a baby in his arms most of the movie
he fucks a bitch and kills badguys at the same time and i'm pretty sure she had an orgasm.
It reminds me of Running Scared, except with humor. That over the top going for the shock and gore action film that gets you jacked up, except this one had unintentional and intentional humor to it.

Honestly, it was free, so I loved it.
If you live in a city that charges $10 for a movie... like mine. Might want to wait for a cheap theatre or DVD.

oh wait, there is a baby in his arms the whole time? If he doesn't throw it up at least once to grab a weapon or kill a guy before catching the baby the movie fails..

I take it the Belucci factor played a role in you seeing this so soon.

so think of the following:
- the part in Bad Boys 2 with the boat on the highway
- the part in Transporter 2 with the car and the bomb and the train
- the part in crank where he's fucking his girlfriend in the middle of chinatown
- the part in predator with the "Stick around"
- the part in rambo 1 when he takes out the helicopter by throwing a rock
etc....

Most movies, even the most over the top retarded ones have maybe 2 or 3 moments like this. Shoot Em Up is made up entirely of this kind of shit, the whole 85 or so minutes. There are maybe 3 scenes tops that don't kick ridiculous ass. The opening shoot out could easily be the climax for most other action movies, and it just tries to top itself from there.

It's basically a mean bugs bunny/road runner cartoon with lots and lots of guns. Any kind of logic and reason, both in the physical possibility and the story sense, were not even considered with this it conceived. If you have a problem with this, don't even bother watching it.

I'm not sure how it will age, but watching it in the theatre was one of the most enjoyable movie experiences in a while. People actually stood up and clapped DURING, not in the end. More than once.

In conclusion, this movie was 3 pounds of crack attached to 8 perfect DD titties floating down the river of honey and pussy juice. Seriously

yeah they drop a bunch of little 'winks' like that. I seriously wouldn't have been surprised if Mr Smith walked off a cliff and didn't fall, and somebody else tried it after him and plummetted.

Keep in mind that this is a reaction from one viewing, as compared to multiple viewing of the others being compared....

- It's not better than predator, although it's up there.

- It's as good as bad boys 2 overall, but bad boys 2 has the humor developed much futher and gets a lot of mileage out of the chemistry between the leads. Purely on teh action level, Shootem up is better i think - it's more inventive with teh set pieces and the cool shit Smith does

- It's better than crank (again, smith just does cooler shit), better than transporter 2 because there's no idiotic half hearted serious subplot, better than running scared because it's actually action packed and much more focused

Spot on review. I think this was the single STOOPIDEST movie I've ever seen but in a totally good way. Absolutely the most over the top action movie I've ever seen. I have no idea how they will get more ridiculous but I'm looking forward to it.

I loved the actors hamming it up too. Giamatti looked like he was having a hella lot of fun. Sideways line had me in stitches.
