the reviews for this are insane, and apparently the twists are so heavy and important that people are reluctant to describe the movie at as to avoid spoilers

Looks pretty good. I'll throw it in the netflix queue and get around to watching it in 2013 or whenever it becomes accessible. I take it this will have a theatrical run way before it hits dvd/blu-ray?

The trailer was definitely cool-looking. I'll be looking out for this when it comes out.

I can't say I care for the whole british gangster vibe as it's been done to death, but the satanic-horror elements are definitely my cup of tea. Will definitely have to check this out.

IFC puts out some pretty good stuff.

Just finished watching this. Fucking blew me away. My worries about the whole done-to-death british gangster vibe were laid to rest, the characters are far more complex than what's usually associated in the genre. Very heavy film and it's slow pace might put off some folk with ADD. It's a really fucking dark and brutal film while not glamourising the extreme violence and it's descent into more abstract and darker themes didn't lose me at all. There's a twist that I won't go into but you can see it coming in the build up, it didn't spoil the movie however. Great acting particularly by lead actor, Neil Maskell, easily his best performance to date. Very unique film, something that would appeal to the Iceickles of this world and genre heads like me. Can't wait to watch it again. Highly recommend it.

This was heavy. The two leads are very believeable as friends and partners and it's nice to see rather unglamorous and unsexy hitmen. There's some really nasty violence but it actually serves a prupose in he plot. I need to watch this again with subtitles because the accents are thick as hell and of course the ending makes you go back to reconstruct what you've seen.

It plays exactly like another European film from last year, I won't say more about this but the similarity is striking.

Gotta disagree that it's slow-paced but I may have another understanding of what that means.

It's a common complaint, according to my quick internet-survey. What I'd like to stress is that the "twist" didn't come out of nowhere at all, it was perfectly in line with the rest of the movie and very consistent with the eerie tone. It was necessary even. There's an ambiguity which will annoy some viewers but I personally don't need full disclosure on every detail.

just watched this movie and HOLY FUCK. Agree with every word of this review.
I'm extremely desensitized and its very rare that a movie actually makes me feel something the way this film did.


I do agree about the final act leaving me wanting more. I like things to be neat and tidy and wrapped up in a bow at the end. Instead, "kill list" left me with this fucking gut wrenching feeling through my whole body and nothing will make it go away (which is what the director wanted and he succeeded exceptionally, much to my dismay.)

The twist only half fooled me.

I'd love to have a spoiler thread where we could discuss this movie further, I have a lot of questions, and also the heavy accents made it hard for me to understand about 20% of the dialogue or more.

Agree with Big Barry. Hated the ending. This was my most anticipated film in ages, and enjoyed it up til that stage. I think the twist is quite obvious and was alluded to in tons of reviews, but I though it was badly done, felt too rushed and was just a bit f**king stupid IMO. The whole film was gritty, and felt realistic - I loved the banal settings, the humdrumness of their job, the dynamism between Jay and Gary, and just that weird sense of dread that built up via Jay's dialogue with the characters he comes across during his work.

That ending felt tacked on, when it's pretty much key to the whole film. Maybe 90mins just isn't enough time.

I liked his 'Lost' analogy, but IMO that's exactly what he did! The reveal is so lame. I'd have preferred something more ambiguous.

Judging from most of the negative criticism I've read regarding the film, many of it's detractor's appear to have problems with the fact that there is too much ambiguity.

That said, I really enjoyed watching the film. I like the actor that played J. He had the only good scene / lines in the car crash that was Football Factory.

It just seemed like such a stylistic jump from the rest of the film, but not in a good way. So jarring, and just... a bit shit.

other than the obvious similarity to A Serbian Film's finale, much of that ending obviously borrows much in terms of tone and style from devil rides out and the wicker man. they evoke a sense of paranoia and dread in the inevitable for Jay and his loved ones. The garden scene with the family playfully sword-fighting and the chilling music that comes into play act as foreshadowing to the sacrifice in the film's climax and Jay's annointment as "the chosen one" with the omnipresent cabal.

There are lots of hints particularly from Fiona, The Client, The Librarian and the doctor Jay sees at the hospital that suggest throughout the film the lead up to the pagan/supernatural sect as having it's tendrils in everything from religion to governmental organisations. The mostly urban locations shows them hidden but everywhere, the finale set during the middle of the night in the rich MP's manor estate is secluded and off the beaten track , there's no reason for them to hide they're actions when Jay & Gal happen upon them. While I agree it's a stylistic jump, it's not an illogical one, they wouldn't exactly be doing any of that shit in a busy urban environment e.g. Piccadilly Circus, innit blud?

I'm pretty much clear on the various religious aspects even the subtle arthurian reference and they're association to Jay as some dormant prophet/harbinger being awakened. The only thing I still haven't established is if the cabal belong to something supernatural or not, almost certain the first hit on the kill list, The Priest was at the gathering at the end of the movie and if Shell was indoctrinated prior to Fiona's unannounced visits. It begs for multiple viewings thats for sure.

I think 'Shell had definitely been indoctrinated by Fiona. Hence her smiling at the end. Also, that blog reminded me of the bit where Fiona says she's in HR and helps organisations to 'downsize' - so I suspect she's doing it all along. Still don't get why Shell is shooting people outside the safehouse though?.

And, no. I suppose the ending isn't illogical, but i'd have been more freaked out if Jay had found them all in the house sitting round a table together or something. But again, I probably don't appreciate the reference.
